Baili Xia recently, aside from providing acupuncture to Uncle, hadn’t had much conversation with him.

Uncle does not like to talk to her anymore; he has been deliberately avoiding her.

Even when his health improved slightly, he started refusing acupuncture treatments from her as well.

Just like last night, if she hadn’t insisted on giving him one final check, he would probably have had Ye Hua block her again.

However, she did have some faults last night.

While rubbing medicinal wine on Uncle, she ended up falling asleep on his bed, clueless as to when she had returned to her own room.

“What are you thinking about?”

The voice of Dongfang Jin immediately snapped her wandering thoughts back to reality.

Baili Xia’s eyes widened as she looked at him.

Thinking back to the scenes at the hunting ground, her breathing became erratic again, and she felt a lingering sense of dread wash over her.

“Were those people really targeting me?

Why?

Was it because I was assumed to be Miss Mu at the time?”

“Mu Ziqing and Mu Ziying are the true granddaughters of the Mu family.

Why didn’t those people go after them?” Dongfang Jin asked indifferently.

Baili Xia was at a loss for words.

Indeed, the title of Miss Mu, even a fake one, is not really significant.

So, the only possibility is…

She took a deep breath, her voice slightly hoarse: “Is it because of Uncle?”

Dongfang Jin looked at her again, before pursing his lips and nodding.

It was indeed for Uncle.

Were those people trying to use her to get at Uncle?

“You’ve guessed wrong this time.” The expression on her face, although no longer as transparent as in the past two years, still didn’t escape Dongfang Jin’s understanding.

Just a change in her complexion and he could guess seventy to eighty percent of her thoughts.

“This time it was truly just to target you, not to bother Mu Xiaojiu,” Dongfang Jin said.

“Why?” Now Baili Xia really did not understand.

If someone wanted to target her, they would either abduct her to threaten Uncle or lead Uncle over and then harm him.

If neither of these was the case, and it was solely to target her, then…

what’s the reason?

She truly did not understand.

“Don’t ask me, I haven’t found out about this matter yet, however, there’s something I still intend to tell you,” Dongfang Jin said, watching her.

“Jin, please speak clearly, it’s hard on me trying to guess with you only saying half,” she said.

Already out of strength to guess, she preferred just to listen to what he had to say.

Dongfang Jin did not look at her, staring at the falling leaves in the distance, seemingly still hesitant.

Baili Xia tugged at his sleeve.

Then, Dongfang Jin finally spoke calmly: “I had already found some clues that could have exposed the person behind the scheme, but, those clues were deliberately cut off by someone.”

Baili Xia just stared with wide eyes at his profile, without interruption.

Dongfang Jin still harbored some doubts because saying this might very well be construed as slander.

Yet, all the evidence and clues were pointing to that person.

He didn’t want to deceive Baili Xia, didn’t want to deceive her about anything.

“The person who broke the clues…” He pursed his thin lips, falling silent for quite a while before continuing, “If I’m not mistaken, it should be Mu Xiaojiu’s people.”

“What?” Baili Xia was startled, abruptly standing up, looking down at him with disbelief in her eyes.

“You’re saying, you’re saying that Uncle is deliberately stopping your investigation? Why? What reason would he have to do that? Isn’t he… isn’t he also trying to investigate the same thing?”
