Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1265
“In any case, when we go to Bei Miao this time, don’t speak recklessly or act impulsively.
I’ll find a chance to take something from the Old Madam and conduct a DNA test with you.”
“Before the results are out, you’d better stay calm,” Nangong Xu said at last.
“I understand,” Baili Xia exhaled, then lifted her cup again and took a sip of tea.
The tea was still warm, yet it couldn’t seem to warm her body.
Nangong Xu noticed her face still looked pale and knew his earlier words had indeed startled her.
But what he said was the truth.
It was better for her to realize the gravity of the situation and stay cautious, rather than waiting until something went wrong and finding it unfixable.
“Go back early and rest. We’ll set out early tomorrow morning,” Nangong Xu said.
“Wait a moment.” Baili Xia didn’t leave immediately.
Instead, she set the cup down again and looked up at him.
“Master, have you heard of someone named Bei Qingyou?”
“Bei Qingyou?” Nangong Xu paused for a moment, then nodded.
“She’s a very famous person.
I don’t know much about her, but my father admired her greatly.”
“Why?”
According to Dongfang Jin’s findings, even if Bei Qingyou were still alive today, she’d only be around forty years old.
His father was considerably older than Bei Qingyou—how could he possibly admire her?
“This senior, Bei Qingyou, is rumored to be an extraordinary woman.
My father’s admiration for her mostly stems from her unparalleled talent in medicine.”
“It’s said that back then, in the entire Bei Family, her talent was unmatched.”
“Everyone originally believed she would become the successor of the Miao Domain, but for some unknown reason, she suddenly went missing.”
“After being gone for over two years, she returned to the Bei Family and continued to be the most beloved by Lord Bei and the Old Madam.
Yet, a year later, she suddenly passed away from an illness.”
Nangong Xu now recounted the story with a tone of indifference, though if one were truly involved in it, they’d likely find things far more complicated than he made it seem.
The circumstances surrounding Bei Qingyou’s death, her disappearance during those two years, and what happened in the year after her return—perhaps not everyone in the Bei Family truly knew the answers.
Grand manor houses often hid countless secrets.
Now that so many years had passed since her death, all that remained was a lingering sense of regret.
Nangong Xu glanced back and saw Baili Xia staring blankly at him, though her gaze seemed unfocused.
Her eyes weren’t fixed on him but on some point unknown, lost in thought.
He waved his hand in front of her.
Baili Xia jumped, startled by the sudden appearance of his fingers.
She took in a sharp breath, raised her head to look at him, and even her voice trembled slightly as she spoke: “Ma-Master, is something the matter?”
“That should be my question to you. What were you thinking about? Why is your gaze so blank?”
Nangong Xu remained unusually patient with her.
Compared to how he treated others, his demeanor toward Baili Xia could almost be described as gentle.
Baili Xia opened her mouth, but no words came out.
She simply stared at him in a daze.
“What is it that you’re thinking about? Is it about the Bei Family?”
After contemplating for a moment, Nangong Xu’s expression suddenly darkened, and a fleeting emotion crossed his eyes.
He looked again at Baili Xia—her face still pale, her thin lips slightly parted, as though struggling to speak.
Nangong Xu pressed his lips together.
There were certain things he truly didn’t want to say, but seeing her like this, he had no choice but to ask clearly.
Softening his voice deliberately, he gazed at Baili Xia and gently asked, “Are you wondering… if you have some connection to Bei Qingyou?”
