Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1268
Wu Ming didn’t speak, still staring at her, motionless, not taking a single step back.
Baili Xia fixed her gaze on his eyes.
Clearly, she didn’t know him — he was a stranger — but the longer she looked, the more familiar he seemed.
Wu Ming… is he wearing fake irises?
She wanted to reach out and touch his scarf, but Wu Ming’s gaze suddenly turned cold, carrying traces of resistance.
Feeling his displeasure, Baili Xia quickly raised her hand, retreating from him.
“I’m sorry, I lost control earlier.”
Wu Ming still said nothing.
Baili Xia continued, “Since you’ve already let me see your eyes, can you let me see your face as well?”
This time, Wu Ming merely looked deeply at her before slowly untying his scarf.
As the scarf fell, Baili Xia’s breath completely disordered in an instant.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was like this, I’m sorry.”
Baili Xia immediately picked up the scarf, wrapping it back around his neck, pulling it up over his face, using it to shield him.
She never expected Wu Ming to be someone whose face had been disfigured; she hadn’t meant to hurt him.
If she had known, she wouldn’t have pressured him to take off the scarf.
A face like this, of course, he must be ashamed to reveal it in front of others.
To expose someone’s vulnerability like this was truly cruel.
But when she looked at Wu Ming again, he remained ever calm, his eyes devoid of any emotion.
As if this ugly face of his being seen by others didn’t matter to him at all.
Baili Xia let out a breath and, fearing he might misunderstand, explained: “I’m not afraid of the scars on your face, it’s just… just that I’m scared you’d be unhappy.
Don’t misunderstand me.”
She picked up his glasses, intending to put them back on him, then thought better and said, “Your eyes aren’t damaged, so why not just stop wearing them?
Glasses like these aren’t comfortable anyway.”
Because she had realized that these glasses were merely used to cover his eyes and served no other functional purpose.
But why would he deliberately block his own eyes?
And, he’s wearing fake irises…
People typically wear fake irises either for aesthetic purposes or to conceal something.
Wu Ming surely wasn’t doing it for looks, so then… could it mean there’s something wrong with his eyes?
Could it be… one of his eyeballs is already damaged?
Given Wu Ming’s disfigured face, even his pair of eyes made her wonder if something was wrong with one.
Thus, she didn’t even consider the possibility that this man simply didn’t want her to recognize his eyes.
A person’s eyes are the hardest to disguise.
To someone who knows you well, even a glance might be enough to reveal your identity.
Baili Xia didn’t think much of it and composed herself before turning her gaze back to Wu Ming.
Though he wasn’t wearing glasses anymore, the black scarf still obscured most of his face.
This way, as long as the scarf stayed on, no one could see the scars that marred his face.
A man whose face has been disfigured…
She exhaled softly, suddenly feeling a bit of pity for him.
No wonder he was so reluctant to let her see his face—was he afraid of scaring her off?
She suddenly tilted her head and looked at him: “Don’t worry. We’re friends, always will be. I won’t be scared away.”
After saying this, she felt her words might have been slightly problematic.
Smiling sheepishly, she pursed her lips and muttered softly, “I’m not good with words, don’t take it to heart. Anyway, no matter what you look like, we’re friends.”
Wu Ming glanced at her.
With his fake irises, Baili Xia still couldn’t understand the emotion in his eyes.
However, when he slightly nodded, she understood.
