The woman’s drifting gaze carried a gentle warmth with it.

Baili Xia didn’t even think before rushing toward her.

But even though she was right in front of her, that figure always kept a certain distance, no matter how hard she chased, she couldn’t catch up.

She didn’t even know who the woman was, yet the moment she opened her mouth, she was calling out to Bei Qingyou.

“Bei Qingyou, are you my mother? Are you my mother?”

No one answered.

That blurry-faced woman still smiled faintly at her.

Baili Xia desperately wanted to chase after her, but suddenly, a gust of wind blew fiercely.

The wind hit her body—it was so cold, so cold that her entire body began to tremble.

Was Bei Qingyou really her mother?

Was she?

So cold, unbearably cold.

Where was this place?

Why was it so cold?

Suddenly, it seemed someone was approaching, but she couldn’t see his face clearly.

She only knew that as he got closer, her body gradually began to warm up.

A warm scent, a familiar scent, along with that recognizable medicinal aroma…

“Wu Ming!”

Baili Xia suddenly widened her eyes.

As she opened them, she truly saw that figure sitting right beside her, and on her body, his coat was draped over her.

“Wu Ming, did you really come?” She was a bit incredulous, sitting upright all at once, lifting her head to look at him.

Tonight, perhaps because it was winter, Wu Ming was bundled up even more than usual.

A thick scarf had completely wrapped up two-thirds of his face.

His specially-made glasses, different from ordinary sunglasses, blocked his eyes but didn’t seem jarring.

As though they were just a regular pair of glasses worn by someone near-sighted.

Having just woken up, Baili Xia’s mind was still a bit foggy, and she reached out instinctively, wanting to remove his glasses.

Wu Ming clearly didn’t expect her sudden action and froze briefly, then instinctively took a step back.

“I just want to see you. You’ve never let me see your true face. Is it because you’re someone I know? Who are you, really?”

Baili Xia knelt up, earnestly staring at the scarf-wrapped face in front of her.

“Who are you, really? Is it truly impossible for me to take even one look at you?”

This feeling of the unknown was horribly uncomfortable, as if she was standing in the brightest of places while the other person remained hidden in the shadows.

He could see her, but she couldn’t see him, not in the same way.

Suddenly, she felt deeply weary of this feeling.

“I don’t like suspicion. I hate suspicion the most. If you’re really my friend, why won’t you let me see your face?”

Staring at his custom-made glasses and the black scarf, she suddenly felt inexplicably sad.

“I hate men like you the most—self-righteous, intentionally mysterious, always making others guess. Even what you look like, you insist I must guess?”

Her emotional words rendered Wu Ming completely silent.

She couldn’t tell what he was thinking, but as Baili Xia reached out her hand again, he, surprisingly, didn’t evade her this time.

Baili Xia froze in her heart, not expecting that he would actually let her see.

This kind of once-in-a-lifetime chance—if missed, it would be gone forever.

She extended both hands and, seizing that one-in-a-million opportunity, removed his glasses.

A pair of eyes she wasn’t familiar with…

Baili Xia felt a tinge of disappointment.

She didn’t even know what she was disappointed about.

Could it be she still held a faint hope in her heart, wishing he was someone?

But how could it be?

Impossible.

Wu Ming couldn’t be Uncle.

What was she even thinking?
