“Come, come in…”

Baili Xia swallowed a mouthful of saliva before finally rasping out in a soft voice.

In truth, before she even opened her mouth, the impatient man outside had already started pushing the door open.

He knocked on the door a few times, only because at this hour, everyone was asleep, and he was unsure if she had the habit of sleeping…

naked.

But his impatience won over—naked or not, he didn’t care.

With the door pushed open from the outside, Mu Xiaoyao entered the room.

Taking a glance at Baili Xia’s disheveled appearance, Mu Xiaoyao slowly said, “What’s this? Did you just return from war?”

Well, at least it was war, and not nakedness.

Baili Xia collected herself, glared at him briefly, and then heavily flopped back onto the bed.

“Stop sleeping and get up. We have to leave earlier than planned.”

Seeing her lying back on the bed, Mu Xiaoyao couldn’t help but frown slightly.

As he spoke, he’d already walked over to the wardrobe, casually picking out a few items and tossing them into Baili Xia’s suitcase.

“It’s not even four o’clock yet… let me sleep a little longer,” Baili Xia murmured.

Suddenly, she sat up again, glancing at Mu Xiaoyao who was busy packing her things.

“Leaving early?”

Mu Xiaoyao didn’t even turn around, merely nodded and said, “Go wash up.”

“Oh.” She answered absentmindedly, eyes closing once more.

Baili Xia rubbed her temples, trying to make herself a bit more alert.

Her head was foggy at the moment, and she had even forgotten to ask why they were leaving early.

But honestly, even if she did ask, why would anyone tell her everything?

Just follow the arrangements—it’s always like this.

Opening her hazy eyes again, she looked toward Mu Xiaoyao, who was still preoccupied with packing.

This scene…

felt so warm and harmonious.

A reliable man at home, someone who knows how to take care of others, who is attentive, dependable—how worthy of trust.

What a perfect life.

A fleeting thought passed through her mind, and Baili Xia shook her head.

No more thinking—she should quickly get up and wash up.

Perhaps drained after that nightmare, Baili Xia gathered all her strength just to shuffle to the edge of the bed.

She slowly lowered her feet to the floor, sitting on the edge of the bed, hands pressing into the mattress, gathering her energy to stand.

But just as she managed to rise halfway, before she could straighten her body, Baili Xia fell backward again.

Thankfully, there was a soft mattress behind her—if she had fallen directly to the floor, in this current state with no sense of self-protection, she would’ve surely hurt herself.

Hearing Baili Xia’s startled cry, Mu Xiaoyao turned around.

He immediately caught sight of Baili Xia sprawled helplessly on the bed, struggling to get up, but clearly too weak at the moment.

Mu Xiaoyao shook his head and strode over.

Thinking he was coming to help pull her up, Baili Xia weakly raised her right hand.

But before she could react, Mu Xiaoyao approached the bedside and scooped her up into his arms.

“Brother…”

“Did you go to bed without eating last night? Why’re you so feeble?” Mu Xiaoyao frowned.

Baili Xia remained silent.

She had no idea either—she truly felt drained upon waking.

However, that dream had been terrifying.

There was this suffocating sense of someone gripping her neck, nearly choking the life out of her.

The dream was also exceedingly disheartening—she found herself begging Uncle not to leave her behind, crying like she’d lost her soul.

Ridiculous.

If he wants to leave, let him go already—who’d ever beg him?

Mu Xiaoyao carried her straight to the bathroom, gently setting her down in front of the bathroom vanity.

Then, he picked up her toothbrush and toothpaste, preparing them for her.

Holding the toothbrush and toothpaste Mu Xiaoyao had readied, Baili Xia still remained in a daze, her consciousness foggy.

She glanced back at Mu Xiaoyao—he was busy packing her usual skincare products into a small bag…
