Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1340
Baili Xia seemed to have caught onto something.
She asked urgently, “Auntie, what happened between you and your benefactor?
Can you tell me about it?”
“Alright, here’s the thing, eighteen years ago, there was a time when I…”
The woman was just about to recount what had happened back then to Baili Xia.
But suddenly, a wave of cold air swept over from nearby, making her abruptly stop.
She glanced towards Bei Tianyou, dressed all in white, who was walking toward her and Baili Xia.
Bei Tianyou said nothing, but the chill emanating from him made the woman shudder involuntarily.
“L-little girl, I have something to take care of.
I’ll tell you next time.”
“Hey, Auntie, you… Auntie…”
Baili Xia didn’t understand why the woman suddenly wanted to leave and was about to ask her.
But the woman bent down to pick up the tools she had left on the ground and, without lingering for even a second, bolted down the mountain.
Baili Xia was stunned for a moment, planning to learn more about Bei Qingyou’s past, but the woman had suddenly left.
As she turned around, she saw that Bei Tianyou had already approached her, and realization struck her in an instant.
It must have been him who intimidated the woman; otherwise, why would she run away in such a panic?
“She’s gone. Let’s head back,” Bei Tianyou said expressionlessly.
“Brother You, I haven’t finished looking around yet. Let me stay a little longer, please?” Baili Xia pleaded.
But Bei Tianyou didn’t respond and started walking back along the narrow trail they had come from.
Baili Xia had no choice but to stomp her foot in frustration and chase after him.
It was easy to climb up the mountain but far harder to descend, especially while wearing slightly high-heeled shoes.
Baili Xia took even longer to walk back than she had when climbing up.
Bei Tianyou walked ahead of her, keeping a distance of no more than a meter between them.
“Brother You, do I really look that much like Bei Qingyou?”
Baili Xia had been pondering this for a long time and finally couldn’t resist voicing her question.
But as the words left her mouth, her tone was deliberately casual.
No matter how much she cared deep down, she couldn’t afford to let it show.
Walking ahead, Bei Tianyou suddenly stopped, causing Baili Xia to nearly bump into him.
A wave of chill leaked out from Bei Tianyou’s body, and Baili Xia knew that he was angry.
“I’ve told you before—don’t mention that name.”
Normally, when Bei Tianyou was angry, Baili Xia wouldn’t dare say another word to him.
But since she had already voiced her question, she decided to gamble on this moment.
After all, she might never muster this courage again in the future.
She maintained her jovial demeanor, looking as if she were deeply intrigued.
“Brother You, I really want to know.
Otherwise, why did that woman mistake me for her?”
“When I first met the Old Master and the Old Madam, they also mistook me for Bei Qingyou.”
Though the chill radiating from Bei Tianyou made her somewhat fearful, Baili Xia persisted until she finished speaking.
She decided to risk it—to gamble on Bei Tianyou’s feelings for Bei Qingyou and his leniency toward herself.
Watching Bei Tianyou’s silhouette, Baili Xia saw that he remained motionless, yet she knew he was hesitating.
Sure enough, she had made the right gamble.
Whatever the reason, Bei Tianyou wouldn’t punish her simply for asking a question.
After a moment, Bei Tianyou turned around to face Baili Xia, the chill around him dissipating slightly.
“Maybe there’s some resemblance.
I don’t quite remember.”
“Don’t bring up this name again.
She is a forbidden subject in the Bei Family.
You’ll invite trouble because of it.”
With that, Bei Tianyou turned back around and continued walking down the mountain, no longer paying her any attention.
Watching his figure gradually retreat into the distance, Baili Xia couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of suspicion.
