“So you’re here to see me because you suspect it was Nangong Yun?” Guisu asked softly, frowning slightly.

Baili Xia nodded, not hiding her thoughts.

“I don’t know about that; I just got here too.”

He paused and emphasized again, “The feuds and grudges in these families have nothing to do with me, and I don’t want to get involved. I’m only responsible for the competition.”

Baili Xia had interacted with Guisu enough to know he was straightforward and direct.

He never beat around the bush and always said what was on his mind.

His current identity was Sima Liuyue’s bodyguard.

If Sima Liuyue hadn’t instructed him to participate in the competition, he wouldn’t be interested in it at all.

Since he had been given a task, he would certainly complete it.

Now, everything was made clear.

Guisu glanced down at the time and said to Baili Xia, “I should go back; Miss Sima is waiting for me over there.”

“Alright, you go back. But… it’s best if you don’t tell her you met with me.”

Guisu nodded; he understood these matters.

Even though he wasn’t talkative, he saw everything clearly.

“During this time, she and I will both be staying at Wangyue Pavilion. If there’s anything, you can come find me.”

Having said that, he turned around and prepared to leave.

Behind him, Baili Xia suddenly called out to him again, “Guisu.”

Guisu turned his head to look at her, not knowing what else she had to say.

“I hope, if you come across Bei Tianyou’s people, you can show some mercy.”

Perhaps this was the only request she could make on Bei Tianyou’s behalf.

“This morning, I already showed mercy.”

“I know, thank you.” Baili Xia smiled.

“At least I can promise you, I won’t play dirty if I encounter them.”

After saying that, he turned around once more and left the backyard.

Watching his departing figure, Baili Xia felt a surge of emotions.

This man, who once so desperately wanted her life,

had now gone through so much that the two of them could sit here and talk freely.

Moreover, it seemed there was not much barrier between them.

When Guisu said he wouldn’t play dirty, he meant it—she believed him!

…

In the main hall, Sima Liuyue and Nangong Yue had just paid their respects to the Old Madam and were saying their goodbyes.

After the Old Madam was escorted back to her room by Lan, the two of them walked together towards the courtyard.

Their faces were full of smiles, indicating that the Old Madam was quite pleased with the outcome of the visit.

Nangong Yun was always good at pleasing the Old Madam, and Sima Liuyue had an elegant and gracious presence.

At this moment, when Nangong Yun spoke favorably of Sima Liuyue in front of the Old Madam, it surely had a positive effect.

As they walked and chatted, they discussed their cooperation plans.

As soon as they exited the hall, Sima Liuyue noticed Guisu sitting under a big tree on a stone chair in the courtyard.

So focused was he, he didn’t even notice her coming out.

Only when Sima Liuyue and Nangong Yun approached Guisu did he finally react.

“Miss,” he stood up and walked over, his face still as expressionless as ever.

Sima Liuyue was used to it, but Nangong Yun couldn’t help but take a few more glances at Guisu.

If she hadn’t seen him in action, she probably wouldn’t be pleased to have someone like him around.

He’s not charming, not obedient; having him around would only cause frustration.

But Guisu’s skills were truly impressive, managing to handle even Fan Yi with ease.

A talent like this, how could one not use it?
