Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1482
Sima Liuyue was taken aback for a moment.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, she didn’t dare stop Baili Xia from seeing the Old Madam.
She let out a cold snort, edged aside, and allowed her to pass.
Baili Xia approached the Old Madam, bowed, and said softly, “Old Madam.”
The old woman nodded at her, but the anxiety on her face did not diminish in the slightest.
The conversation between Baili Xia and Sima Liuyue earlier hadn’t registered with the Old Madam because of her anxious heart.
Although some people heard it, without concrete evidence, no one dared to speak up.
Now that Baili Xia was in front of the Old Madam, though everyone watched her, no one stopped her.
Baili Xia looked at the Old Madam and said sincerely, “Old Madam, I am Mr.
Nangong’s apprentice and also knowledgeable in medicine.
Do you think I could go inside…”
“No way!” someone shouted loudly from the courtyard gate.
Nangong Yun had just arrived and happened to hear Baili Xia asking the Old Madam for permission to enter the medical room.
She hurried over to the Old Madam, pointed at Baili Xia, and shouted angrily, “You dare wish to enter, are you planning to harm my grandfather again?”
Nangong Yun’s voice was loud enough for everyone in the courtyard to hear.
For a moment, aside from those who had already guessed something, those who didn’t understand were stunned.
Could this girl in front of them be the one who attempted to assassinate the Old Master?
Could such a seemingly gentle and weak girl be so malicious?
“Yun’er, what exactly is going on?”
Upon hearing Nangong Yun’s words, the Old Madam was visibly unsettled.
She had never doubted Baili Xia, not even when Sima Liuyue whispered to her that it might have been Guisu’s doing.
Sima Liuyue also mentioned that Guisu had an unusual relationship with Baili Xia, but the Old Madam did not think much of it.
After all, it was Baili Xia’s cousin, Nangong Xu, who was inside trying to save the Old Master.
She merely suspected Guisu, as Baili Xia always left a good impression on her—the truth is, everyone can have moments of poor judgment when making friends.
Guisu’s mistake didn’t necessarily mean she was at fault too.
Moreover, Guisu was under Sima Liuyue’s influence, so it could be because Sima Liuyue wanted to clear her name that she badmouthed Baili Xia to the Old Madam.
After managing the Bei Family and even the Miao Domain for so many years, the Old Madam had long trained herself to maintain a rational mind.
She wouldn’t jump to conclusions about right and wrong just because of a few words from others.
“Grandmother, I went to her room this morning and found that she didn’t return to sleep all night.”
Nangong Yun rushed to the Old Madam and said angrily, “How could it be such a coincidence? If you don’t believe me, you can ask her.”
The Old Madam hesitated; this accusation was serious, and she wouldn’t easily pin such a charge on Baili Xia.
But Nangong Yun’s words undeniably stirred her suspicions.
Nangong Yun added a few more lines: “Even if she didn’t do it, she isn’t entirely innocent.”
“This woman hangs around with Guisu all day long, and someone saw Guisu sneaking to her room at night.”
“That Guisu, after injuring Miss Sima last night, escaped, who knows if he came to assassinate Grandfather?”
Nangong Yun rattled off her accusations, leaving Baili Xia unable to retort, having no choice but to let her talk.
She was just puzzled as to how Nangong Yun knew that Guisu had once visited her at night.
Did she send someone to follow Guisu, or did she have someone watch her?
Whichever the case, it was glaringly apparent that Nangong Yun had meticulously laid traps, hoping to catch Baili Xia in one.
