Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1767
Baili Xia didn’t expect that all these brothers actually recognized her.
She responded to each of them with some embarrassment, nodding to each person who greeted her.
As she walked, Baili Xia grew more and more impressed with Mu Xiaojiu’s capabilities.
After passing through the backyard, she thought she had reached the end, only to find another world.
A narrow path cut through a forest, leading into the unseen distance.
“This is the way to the back mountain.” Mu Xiaojiu recognized the doubt in her eyes and spoke softly.
“The back mountain?” Baili Xia murmured.
It seemed that the back mountain was once a very familiar place.
Once, there might have been a pony, one she would ride galloping around the back mountain.
Suddenly, an inexplicable sadness welled up in her heart, Baili Xia asked.
“Uncle, do I have a horse?”
Mu Xiaojiu was slightly startled, his heart involuntarily tightened.
But he knew that he couldn’t avoid answering her question.
“Its name was Shengxue, you often rode it to the back mountain for training.”
“Where is it now?” Baili Xia asked urgently.
“It’s dead.”
Baili Xia felt a sharp pang in her heart: “How could it die? Wasn’t it still very young?”
Mu Xiaojiu slightly furrowed his brow, pondered for a moment, then spoke slowly.
“Once, during the Eight Big Families competition, you encountered an ambush…”
He spoke slowly, knowing this story would inevitably make her sad, but he had to tell it.
If he didn’t, she would reminisce about these lost memories herself.
By the time he finished speaking, Baili Xia’s tears had soaked through her clothes.
Mu Xiaojiu raised his hand, gently wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes.
“Silly girl, Shengxue died to save you. If you’re unhappy, it wouldn’t be happy either.”
His clumsy words failed to convey comfort truly; Shengxue had died, how could it feel unhappy?
Yet Baili Xia listened, obediently raising her hand to wipe her tears.
“Shengxue, thank you.”
After wiping away the last tear, Baili Xia finally perked up, striving to revive her spirits.
Only by living well could she justify Shengxue’s sacrifice in saving her life.
Yet, she truly lost so much of her past, but why did she recognize the people around her?
There were many vague scenes, were they real or imaginary?
Mu Xiaojiu watched her regain strength, his heart feeling a slight warmth.
Girl, still the same girl as before, this hasn’t changed.
She always finds happiness and positivity in adversity.
“Do you want to visit the back mountain?” he asked softly.
But Baili Xia shook her head and said, “Not today, Uncle, you’re injured, you should rest.”
Mu Xiaojiu nodded, not insisting further.
The distance between the girl and him slowly shrank.
To her, he was no longer as unfamiliar as when she had just woken up.
A chilly breeze passed by, involuntarily causing Baili Xia to shiver.
Mu Xiaojiu freed his right arm that she held, pulling her to his left side.
Then he extended his left arm, gently embracing her.
“It’s a bit cold, let’s hurry back.”
“Walking by Uncle’s side, it’s not cold at all.”
The wind was blocked by him.
Such a tall figure always gave one a feeling of shelter from the storm.
Walking by his side, suddenly, she felt very at ease, very safe.
Mu Xiaojiu glanced down at her, saying nothing.
As New Year approached, the cold wind blew fiercer than before.
This should be the last strong wind of deep winter; once it’s blown over, the warm spring must be coming, right?
