“What do I have to be nervous about?” His voice turned cold, eyes unwavering as he met Baili Xia’s gaze directly.

The two of them looked at each other for a moment before Baili Xia suddenly nodded lightly, offering a faint smile.

“She just mentioned that Sir Mu treated me well in the past, nothing else.”

Baili Xia really wanted to ask Wu Ming whether Baili Yang was her biological grandfather, but Wu Ming was ultimately Uncle’s man.

No matter how well he treated her, his identity was still there.

Wu Ming looked into Baili Xia’s eyes, trying to discern if what she said was true.

But those eyes were like a clear lake, with no trace of hidden intentions visible at this moment.

He felt somewhat relieved; perhaps he had been overly concerned about this girl’s affairs, and he really might have been overthinking it.

While thinking about this, his phone suddenly rang.

Wu Ming took out his phone, seeing a number that was both unfamiliar and familiar.

Unfamiliar, because it wasn’t saved.

Familiar, because he had contacted it just a couple of days ago.

He glanced up at Baili Xia, something flashing in his eyes.

Baili Xia smiled lightly, standing up.

“I’m going to the bathroom.”

After speaking, she turned and walked towards the bathroom.

Wu Ming, indeed, was still hiding something from her.

In her presence, he didn’t even dare to answer the phone.

Complex emotions flickered in Wu Ming’s eyes; he immediately raised his hand to answer the call.

“Hello?”

His gaze drifted towards Baili Xia, wondering if she heard him.

She entered the bathroom without looking back.

The person on the other end said a few simple words, and Wu Ming hung up.

Looking at this additional old-fashioned phone, Wu Ming’s eyes grew even more complex.

How much longer would these days of secrecy continue?

When Baili Xia emerged from the bathroom, Wu Ming stood up from the sofa.

“I have some urgent business to attend to this afternoon.”

Baili Xia gave no response, just nodded slightly and sat back down by the sofa.

Wu Ming thought her behavior was a bit odd, knowing that his little action earlier had made Baili Xia uncomfortable.

But he truly didn’t want this girl to know about these matters right now.

“Aren’t you leaving?” Baili Xia’s voice came through, flat and emotionless.

Wu Ming’s heart was suddenly pricked, his gaze on Baili Xia growing more complicated.

“Girl, you…”

Baili Xia looked up at him, barely squeezing out a hint of a smile.

“I’m fine, just in a bad mood, overthinking a bit.”

“If you have things to do, go take care of them. Otherwise, don’t blame me if I don’t wait for you for dinner.”

No matter how many things there are, they have nothing to do with Wu Ming.

He’s just a subordinate, and keeping things from her isn’t his choice. Why make it difficult for him?

Wu Ming stared into her jewel-like eyes, and after a moment, said, “Let’s have dinner together tonight.”

Having said that, he turned and walked out, leaving her with an indescribably desolate back view…

…

After lunch, Nangong Yun was resting.

The pain in her body had finally subsided somewhat, yet she was still very weary.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed down the stone steps of the dungeon.

Two men who looked like servants walked over.

“Miss Yun, the Old Madam has instructed us to take you to the hall.”

Nangong Yun’s heart tightened, not expecting Baili Xia to act so quickly.

This time, she had finally found the right person.

She stood up, waited for them to open the iron door, and walked out on her own.

As she left the dungeon with the two men, she glanced back.

This cursed place, never again should she come here!
