Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 2137
After dinner, Baili Xia headed back to her room and realized Uncle wasn’t following her.
She finally breathed a sigh of relief, no longer having to share a bed with Uncle at night.
Unconsciously, her steps became lighter.
Returning to her room, Baili Xia changed into sportswear and headed out again.
These past few days of taking care of Uncle had left her no time for training.
She walked through the backyard, taking the path leading to the back mountain.
Baili Xia’s mind was still preoccupied with Tian’s situation; whether Tian was Ye Zi or not, she indeed resembled Ye Zi greatly.
If she suddenly appeared in front of Xiaoxiao, would Xiaoxiao mistake her for someone else?
She wasn’t sure if this was the case, and likely no one could testify to it.
If Xiaoxiao didn’t wake up, how exactly should they investigate?
…
In the main house, Wen Yu was busy in the kitchen.
It had been many years since she’d been in the kitchen, but today she had to cook personally once again.
Staring at the bubbling pot of bone broth, her heart churned.
Years of effort were no match for the ruthlessness of time.
Not everything can be reciprocated with sincerity.
She poured the soup into a bowl, placed it on a tray, and walked out of the kitchen.
By now, Mu Xuri should still be in the study; perhaps a steaming bowl of rich broth during work might rejuvenate his feelings for her.
Truth be told, she didn’t really care about feelings.
What she cared about was whether he still valued her as he once did.
Once something isn’t valued even by oneself, the future becomes difficult.
Perhaps, it will become so difficult that survival is at stake.
Wen Yu walked to the study’s door and knocked gently.
After a moment, she heard a soft voice from inside: “Come in.”
Wen Yu pushed the door open and stepped inside.
She expected Mu Xuri to be alone in the study but was surprised to find someone else there.
Seeing Wen Yu enter, the two appeared as if they were interrupted mid-conversation, their expressions somewhat unnatural.
The girl was the new maid, Tian, whom Wen Yu had seen a few times.
Standing by a chair opposite Mu Xuri, upon seeing Wen Yu, she immediately bowed respectfully.
“Madam.”
Wen Yu nodded, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes.
Her gaze swept past the chair beside Tian, which wasn’t placed properly opposite the desk.
Evidently, Tian had been sitting on the chair talking to Mu Xuri.
How could a servant possibly sit and talk with the master?
Moreover, the study was a significant place where Mu Xuri generally didn’t allow any servants to enter.
What was the relationship between this servant and him? To be so close with Mu Xuri just after arriving at the Mu Mansion…
Wen Yu realized her own failure once more.
Mu Xuri hardly involved her in his affairs anymore.
“Sir, if there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.” Tian said respectfully to Mu Xuri.
After Mu Xuri waved her off, she bowed to Wen Yu again before leaving.
Despite the doubts in her heart, Wen Yu dared not ask further.
She placed the bowl of soup on the desk gently in front of Mu Xuri.
Smiling warmly, she said, “Xuri, you’ve been working hard recently. This is bone broth I made myself. Try it, to nourish yourself.”
Mu Xuri lifted his eyes slightly, a hint of displeasure flickering beneath his gaze.
“Nourish what? Are you implying I’m on the verge of collapse?”
