Watching Tian’s departing figure, Ning Anran was secretly shocked.

What is this maid’s real identity, that she can sit here and talk with Uncle?

Moreover, she knows this isn’t the first time.

Could it be that Mu Xuri has taken a liking to this little girl again? But, why does this girl look so familiar?

Yet, it can’t be possible, the one I knew in childhood, after all these years, may not even be alive anymore.

It’s impossible for her to be here.

Once Tian shut the door, fully obscuring her figure, Ning Anran composed herself and walked towards Mu Xuri.

“Uncle, I was hit by Baili Xia, you must stand up for me.”

She lowered her hand to show him the swelling on her face.

Mu Xuri’s brow furrowed tightly, looking at Ning Anran’s appearance, a surge of pity arose in his heart.

“Come over and let me see.”

Ning Anran walked over teary-eyed, full of grievance.

She squatted beside him, her upwards angle making her bruised face appear even more pitiable.

“Look at my face, is it ruined forever? How will I face people in the future?”

Tears welled up in her eyes, voice hoarse, overwhelmed with grievance, yet too weak, only able to be bullied.

This appearance instantly evoked Mu Xuri’s deepest pity and intensified his hatred for Baili Xia.

His woman, how dare that wretched girl touch her!

Mu Xuri raised his hand, touching her pointy chin, inspecting the red marks on Ning Anran’s face.

After a while, he said: “It’s fine, I’ll have someone get you some medicine, and you’ll be better in a few days.”

He lowered his head again, noticing Ning Anran’s arm and knee both had signs of injury.

“What really happened, how could she hit you like this?”

Ning Anran’s tears fell like raindrops, crying with more grievance.

“I was only following your orders, informing Uncle about the funeral matters, when I encountered Baili Xia…”

“She just, she just…”

Her sobbing truly evoked sympathy.

Yet, whether things were truly as she said, Mu Xuri still had doubts.

“Did you provoke her?”

“No, I didn’t provoke her at all, she purely vented her anger because Mrs. Wen died.”

Mu Xuri frowned, not believing Baili Xia had such strong feelings for Wen Yu.

“Wen Yu’s death shouldn’t make her angry at you, this has nothing to do with you.”

Ning Anran felt panic in her heart, not expecting her lie to be so easily seen through by Mu Xuri.

She surreptitiously glanced at Mu Xuri, seeing he didn’t seem angry, she then spoke the truth.

“I just said that it was Baili Xia who called Wen Yu to Sihai Residence, which led to her death.”

Ning Anran realized early on that her words would bring trouble to Mu Xuri, quickly explaining to show loyalty.

“I didn’t mean anything else, just wanted to shift the blame onto her, make her feel guilty.”

“Nonsense, you’re making trouble for me this way.”

Mu Xuri suddenly shouted, the hand on Ning Anran’s chin slammed onto the table.

Though he felt pity for Ning Anran, if her actions jeopardize his interests, Mu Xuri absolutely wouldn’t allow it!

Ning Anran was startled, though she had realized the problem in her words earlier.

But she already said it to Baili Xia, there’s no taking it back.

More frightening, Mu Xuri, this bastard, indeed cared only for himself.

A moment ago, he was so gentle to her, but as soon as he realized he might be implicated by her, he immediately changed his face!
