Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 2318
After a long silence, Mu Xiaoyao looked at Baili Xia again.
“You should also attend the press conference this afternoon.”
“With you there, you can silence the media and completely clear Grandfather’s name.”
Baili Xia nodded. She understood this completely.
The Mu family had experienced so many incidents in a row that those reporters had written them as if they were palace dramas.
Most of them didn’t know the truth of the matter, they would only fabricate facts out of thin air.
If Baili Xia doesn’t show up, they might not believe that Baili Yang is truly innocent.
Most of them would see this as the Mu Group using Baili Yang’s incident to cover up for Mu Xuri’s departure.
They would think it’s just a PR tactic.
A means to prevent the Mu Group’s stock price from plummeting.
Mu Xiaoyao let out a gentle breath; talking to this girl actually made him a bit nervous.
He had to deduce her thoughts from her every move, every expression.
Turns out, being someone with too many thoughts is really exhausting.
“Uncle has already bought a plot in the best cemetery in Jin City, tomorrow morning we will transport Grandfather’s ashes from the Mu Mansion.”
“I believe many people will attend tomorrow’s funeral.”
“You don’t have to worry too much, Uncle and I will handle everything.”
“Okay.”
Finally, Baili Xia responded softly.
With just a simple answer, Mu Xiaoyao felt as though a heavy burden had been lifted from his heart.
If this continued, he would be a bit afraid that this girl would disagree with these arrangements.
Suddenly, something flashed through Baili Xia’s mind.
Her gaze quickly lifted and landed on Mu Xiaoyao’s face.
“Did you say, Grandfather’s ashes?”
Amidst the oppressive atmosphere, she hadn’t noticed when Brother mentioned this.
Mu Xiaoyao nodded: “Yes, the ashes will be retrieved this afternoon.”
Baili Xia was utterly stunned, not knowing what to say.
She had never even seen Grandfather’s ashes.
Because of his status as a criminal, the ashes had not been sent back.
Moreover, at that time, something had happened to her, and she couldn’t handle these matters.
In order to pretend to have amnesia and not let Mu Xuri find out, she couldn’t even acknowledge Grandfather.
Now knowing that Grandfather’s ashes would be returned, her heart inexplicably felt a severe blow.
A hot wetness climbed to her eyes once more, and Baili Xia hastily grabbed a few tissues from the table.
She raised her hand to wipe away the mist.
She rarely cried, but this time it seemed she couldn’t control her emotions at all.
Tears would crawl up inadvertently, triggered by a word, an event.
Mu Xiaoyao looked at Baili Xia and didn’t want to say anything else that could upset her.
He lifted his wrist to check the watch; it was almost noon, and lunchtime was near.
His gaze inadvertently glanced upstairs, a complicated look appearing in his eyes.
Would Uncle come down for lunch?
As time ticked by, finally, a servant came running over.
She looked at Mu Xiaoyao respectfully and said, “Mr. Mu, it’s time for lunch.”
Mu Xiaoyao’s eyes flickered, and he nodded: “Go call Uncle down.”
The servant complied and headed upstairs.
Not long after, she came back.
Only, her expression didn’t look good.
She approached Mu Xiaoyao and whispered: “Mr. Mu, Mr. Xiaojiu…”
“I knocked on the door for quite a while, but Mr. Xiaojiu didn’t open the door.”
No need for her to say more, Mu Xiaoyao had already heard.
It seemed Uncle wasn’t in the mood to come down for lunch either.
Having explained all this to this girl, yet from her attitude, it was obvious she had grievances against Uncle, no wonder he felt uncomfortable.
Perhaps it wasn’t discomfort, just… unease.
In this world, there really weren’t many people who could make Mr. Xiaojiu uneasy.
