Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 2322
People came and went, from morning until afternoon, and by now, most of them had left.
“Get up, you’ve been kneeling too long.”
Mu Xiaoyao walked over to Baili Xia and spoke softly.
Baili Xia had lost track of how long she had been kneeling; her legs now felt as if they were not her own.
Yet, looking at the photo of her grandfather on the tombstone, she was reluctant to stand up.
A tall figure stepped over and lifted her straight off the ground.
“Uncle…” Baili Xia snapped back to reality as she noticed him lifting her, and she was startled.
Luckily, most of the Eight Big Families had left, otherwise, Uncle holding her like this would surely be big news.
The last thing she wanted now was to be linked to him, especially in front of the Eight Big Families.
“I can walk myself.” She struggled, trying hard to break free from his embrace.
But Mu Xiaojiu gave her no chance to escape, continuing to hold her, striding towards the car.
“The ceremony ended a while ago, everyone has dispersed. We can talk once we’re home.”
“Uncle…”
“Even if you kneel until tomorrow, until next year, he won’t climb out from the tombstone,” Mu Xiaojiu said in a deep voice.
“…” Baili Xia bit her lip, ultimately yielding helplessly.
Uncle wasn’t one for words. Saying climbing out from the tombstone wasn’t what he meant, but it sounded so… horrifying.
Forget it, arguing with him was pointless.
In fact, Uncle was right; even if she knelt until she died, her grandfather wouldn’t come back to her side.
“I’m not sad.” As she was placed in the car, Baili Xia lifted her head, looking at his resolute face.
“Now, I’m not sad anymore. I will make an effort to live on.”
Mu Xiaojiu gazed down at her; her little face was still somewhat pale, but there was a trace of smile in her eyes.
Regardless if that smile was to comfort him or something else, at least she was genuinely trying.
He could see that.
“Hmm.” He nodded, remaining silent, though his emotions were quite stirred.
That comforting smile provided him, who had been heavy-hearted for days, a small space to breathe.
“Stay here for a bit, I’ll take care of some things,” he said.
“Okay.” Baili Xia nodded, watching him leave and seeing him walk into the crowd, directing everyone.
That tall figure was like a steadfast tree reaching the sky, offering a sense of security just by its presence.
No matter what time or what they had to do, with Uncle around, everything would be alright.
But, such a good man, she… truly wasn’t worthy of having him.
“So, have you completely reconciled now?” A low, magnetic voice suddenly sounded beside her.
Baili Xia snapped back to reality, realizing Dongfang Jin was already by the car door.
“Jin, haven’t you left?” Baili Xia turned her head to look at him.
It had been quite a while since they last met, and Dongfang Jin seemed to have gained a steadier air than before.
“How could I leave when you’ve been kneeling there the whole time?” Dongfang Jin chuckled.
He had actually intended to go over earlier, to persuade her to stand up, but wasn’t sure what role he should take in doing so.
Lately when Mu Xiaojiu straightforwardly lifted her up, Dongfang Jin agreed with that action.
Kneel so long and her legs must be getting ruined, right?
However, what he witnessed just now was what truly moved Dongfang Jin.
Watching Baili Xia’s clear and pure face, he smiled and said, “You’re willing to comfort him, at least it shows you’ve truly forgiven, right?”
