“Weren’t those people sent by you?” Bei Zicheng looked at Nangong Yun, his thick eyebrows unconsciously furrowing tightly.

Nangong Yun’s graceful brows also knitted together.

“How would I know such formidable assassins? Let alone have the power to command them, to kill Baili Xia and Bei Xier.”

“Not you?” At this, even Nangong Yun’s face instantly darkened a few shades.

If it wasn’t Bei Zicheng who sent them, and it wasn’t her, then who could it be?

Seeing her reaction, Bei Zicheng knew that those assassins weren’t sent by her either.

“I did indeed secretly send some people to deal with them before, but according to their account, the ones they encountered were not the assassins I sent.”

After a moment of silence, though filled with doubt, Nangong Yun spoke truthfully.

The two exchanged a look, their hearts involuntarily trembling violently.

“Then… what on earth is going on? Could there be another force besides us targeting them?”

Looking at Bei Zicheng, Nangong Yun’s fingers in the shadows tightened involuntarily.

But, could it be too much of a coincidence? Apart from the two of them, no one else knew about this plan.

How did those people know? Or had their every move been under that person’s watch from the start?

The unease in his heart grew; hearing Nangong Yun mention this, Bei Zicheng was so frightened that his heartbeat seemed to skip two beats.

Internal strife and external threats… how can one get out of this perfectly?

Moreover, the assassins sent by Nangong Yun inexplicably disappeared without a trace.

One can imagine the capabilities of the person hiding behind the scenes.

“Could it be someone secretly wanting to help us?” After pondering for a long time, Bei Zicheng looked at Nangong Yun and asked.

Although, this hypothesis wasn’t something he placed much hope in.

But, they needed to find out what’s really going on inside.

Otherwise, when both of them get harmed, they wouldn’t even know who the person behind it was.

“I will investigate this matter, you can rest assured and stay here.”

Nangong Yun extended a hand to pat Bei Zicheng on the shoulder, but he forcefully shook her hand off.

“You want me to stay here?” Scanning every corner of the small cabin, Bei Zicheng snorted coldly.

“In this wretched place, how do you expect me to stay here?”

Not to mention the small size, occasionally mice and cockroaches would come out, scuttling around happily.

“And you, enjoying good food and drink outside, yet when something like this happens, you act as if nothing’s wrong.”

Everyone in the Bei Family suspects he did it; how could they easily let him go?

Originally thinking of coming back to seize the candidacy for the clan leader, now it’s already a fortune to escape with his life, let alone anything else.

Bei Zicheng originally wanted to complain further, but his disobedient stomach grumbled at that moment.

Even though he loathed the buns on the table, he went back to the chair and sat down.

He picked up the few buns Nangong Yun brought him and slowly nibbled on them.

No matter how unconvinced his heart was, hunger was something he couldn’t control.

Seeing Nangong Yun silent, he frowned, seemingly realizing something, and looked back at her, a hint of hope finally surfacing in his eyes.

Immediately, he threw down the unpalatably hard bun in his hand, exclaiming excitedly.

“How about this, I’ll go back now and confess to grandmother, explain the whole situation to her.”
