Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger

Chapter 737 This Is Advisor Chen from Qin Province

The damp, chilly wind dragged the stench of the sea onto the beach. Yao Lu stepped over the broken gravel scattered by the aftermath of battle, her blue-and-white shorts clinging tightly to her thighs.

There was no joy or excitement on that delicate face after defeating the Furious Sea Sharks; instead, a deeper shadow seemed to creep over her features, as if these two Furious Sea Sharks were only the beginning of their ordeal.

She stopped abruptly. Rain slid down the sharp line of her jaw and dripped off. Her keen gaze swept briefly over Zhang Bai and the others. Her red lips parted slightly: “Looks like what happened to you is about the same as us.”

With no preamble, no pleasantries at all, Yao Lu, who knew Zhang Bai and Li Zhen, went straight to the point.

Up close, her face really held no hint of happiness, only a clear trace of worry.

“The overall strength of this group of Furious Sea Sharks is beyond what we estimated, and this storm couldn’t have come at a worse time.”

Her voice cut through the wind and rain, clear but edged with urgency: “We’ve run into big trouble.”

She paused slightly, raised a hand to wipe the water from her face, her knuckles turning faintly white from how hard she clenched: “As you can see, our ship was torn apart by that… by this group of Furious Sea Sharks.”

“This group of Furious Sea Sharks?” Li Zhen sharply caught the key phrase and asked without hesitation.

Normally, Furious Sea Sharks hunt alone during the day; at most, two or three that are on good terms will cooperate for a hunt.

“Yeah, a group.” Yao Lu nodded to confirm, then slowly explained, “Adult Furious Sea Sharks do go out hunting in the daytime, but the juvenile sharks and the stronger ones stay by the leader’s side, waiting for the rest of the group to bring back their catch.”

Chen Yuan nodded slightly, thoughts turning.

In large Pet Beast groups, the members are usually divided into three tiers:

At the top is the leader. It holds a ruling position in the group and only needs to sit there, waiting for the others to present food.

The middle tier is made up of outstanding adults and the juveniles. The former are the backbone of the group’s strength, responsible for protecting it; the latter represent the group’s future and receive the most protection.

These two types usually don’t need to go out and search for food.

The lowest tier is the ordinary members with average strength. Their duties are the toughest—they not only have to go out in search of food, but also handle all sorts of miscellaneous tasks.

In other words, some of the very strong Furious Sea Sharks are staying close to the leader, which makes the Binhai City Beastmaster Association’s attempt to drive them away anything but smooth.

“We’re not a match for this group of Furious Sea Sharks. Add in this storm, and we had no choice but to pull back for now.”

Yao Lu’s voice rang out again, forcibly yanking Chen Yuan’s thoughts back.

“They haven’t given up the chase. Those two Furious Sea Sharks just now were small fry sent to scout for us.”

At this point, Yao Lu fell silent for a long moment. She turned toward the surging, raging sea, gazing at the heavy cloudbank in the distance, her voice dropping low: “Maybe it won’t be long before the smell of blood here draws them right to us.”

“By then… all of us will be in danger.”

Everyone’s hearts sank hard.

Li Zhen furrowed his brows tightly and suddenly asked, “Advisor Yao, what about the other Beastmasters?”

Yao Lu shook her head: “The wind and rain are too intense. We’ve lost contact with all of them. They might have already turned back, or they might still be struggling in this storm.”

As her words fell, she turned to look at everyone, her voice almost shredded by the wind: “We’re the only ones left in this sea area.”

The wind howled, stirring panic in people’s chests.

But there was no trace of worry on Zhang Bai’s face. He first snuck a glance at Chen Yuan, who looked deep in thought, then stepped half a pace forward and took the initiative to ask, “Advisor Yao, can your ship still sail?”

Yao Lu shook her head: “No. We have to repair the damaged engine first. If we force her to sail, we’re likely to lose both ship and lives.”

She paused, then drew back her deep gaze from the sea and spoke at a rapid clip: “Before we made landfall, I already had my Wind-type Pet Beast leave the ship, fly through the storm, report the situation to the Association, and request support.”

“But we can’t pin all our hopes on support. That process is bound to take quite some time.”

Her eyes were like an iron anchor, heavy and pressing down on everyone’s hearts: “And the shark group won’t give us that time. I’m begging all of you to join forces and hold this position, hang on until rescue arrives or the ship is repaired. Those are the only two ways we make it out alive!”

The crowd fell silent, but Li Zhen quietly turned to look at Zhang Bai’s little fishing boat.

The boat might be small, but it hadn’t been attacked. It was in good working order and could carry quite a few people out of danger.

Maybe sensing Li Zhen’s gaze, Yao Lu’s voice quickly sounded: “The shark group might already be close to this island. If you head out now, how is that any different from throwing your lives away?”

Yao Lu’s wording was brutally blunt, which drew a surprised look from Chen Yuan.

Li Zhen gave a sheepish smile, then admitted out loud that Yao Lu’s decision fit the situation best: “Advisor Yao, you’re right. However you say we should do it, that’s how I’ll do it.”

Once the Furious Sea Sharks get enraged, they’ll attack any creature within their sight without discrimination. This puny fishing boat absolutely can’t withstand a group of Furious Sea Sharks piling on it.

If that happens, everyone will end up in a shark’s belly.

Wait.

Had he forgotten something?

Li Zhen straightened his back and suddenly turned to look at Advisor Chen, who was standing quietly behind them, his eyes lighting up.

With this famously powerful Advisor Chen here, do they really need all these messy plans?

Couldn’t they just wipe out this group of Furious Sea Sharks directly under Advisor Chen’s lead?

In that instant, not only Li Zhen, but everyone on the little fishing boat turned their gaze to Chen Yuan.
