Chapter 62: SS-Rank Boss

Yudian and Ular had no idea that elsewhere, Kang Ian was silently calculating every move of theirs, including letting Black Rose Guild die off almost completely before stepping in to save them.

Meanwhile, they could only gaze in despair at the creature before them.

The giant white wolf boss stood in the middle of the cave, its towering frame nearly brushing against the stone ceiling. Its white fur was nothing like snow. Every strand was covered in a faint golden light, and bolts of lightning running along its body made the entire space tremble violently.

The black wolf boss that Yudian had just finished off moments ago was nothing more than a cub compared to this one.

"No... this can’t be..."

A hunter stammered.

Miya held the energy meter in her hands, her eyes unable to tear away from the boss. The numbers on the screen spiked, then turned a blinding red.

At that very moment, the black stones stored in the hunters’ spatial rings all began to vibrate at once.

A powerful suction sound rang out from the boss’s mouth.

Whoosh!

One by one, the black stones were pulled out of the storage space, flying through the gaps between the hunters and straight toward the white wolf boss.

"Hold onto the spatial rings and those black stones!" Yudian roared.

But it was already too late.

The white wolf opened its jaws.

With a single simple motion, all the black stones were instantly swallowed down its throat.

Boom!

A faint golden light exploded.

The boss raised its head and let out a howl. The roar was so earth-shaking that the hunters had to cover their ears, and a few even collapsed to their knees, unable to stay standing.

Golden lightning bolts ran across all four of its legs, wrapping around its massive body. Muscles beneath the white fur bulged, and bones let out cracking sounds. Its already terrifying frame continued to swell, growing larger bit by bit.

The cave ceiling cracked.

Large chunks of rock rained down.

Miya stared at the meter screen. Her face turned pale, her lips trembling.

"This can’t be..."

Yudian turned to her.

"Miya, tell me, what rank is this boss!"

She swallowed hard, forcing her voice not to break.

"It’s... an SS-rank boss."

The entire cave fell silent.

SS rank.

Just those two words were enough for everyone to understand that this battle was no longer fair.

Black Rose was a B-rank Guild. Even though Yudian was an A-rank hunter, even though the team had many C-rank and above hunters, they still couldn’t do anything against an SS-rank boss in its fully healthy state.

"Retreat."

Yudian clenched his sword tightly.

"We can’t win against it."

The white wolf lowered its head.

Its pale golden eyes looked straight through Black Rose Guild’s formation, devoid of any emotion, as if what stood before it was merely a swarm of insects trying to flee from beneath its paws.

"Retreat now!" Yudian shouted. "We’re abandoning the attack! Run out of this place quickly!"

No one objected.

They immediately turned around, dragging the injured along as they ran. Mages stopped attacking, archers abandoned their positions, and the defensive line tried to use their bodies to block any falling rocks.

But the boss didn’t give them a chance to retreat.

It lunged forward.

A heavy step slammed down, and the ground behind the formation exploded. Waves of golden lightning swept through the cave, sending several hunters flying like scraps of paper.

"Don’t look back! Just keep running!" Yudian yelled.

He and the higher-ranked hunters turned around, trying to halt the boss’s advance.

Yudian swung his sword, slashing out a sharp blade of energy. Ular threw daggers in rapid succession at its eyes. The mages who still had strength to fight simultaneously raised ice walls, fire walls, and layers of light shields.

All the attacks struck the giant white body.

No wounds appeared!

The boss merely tilted its head slightly, as if mocking their efforts. Then, it swung its claws.

Boom!

All the defensive magic was torn apart in an instant. Yudian blocked the blow with his sword, but the tremendous force sent him skidding across the ground. Both arms went numb, and blood seeped from his palms.

"Hyung!" Ular rushed over.

"Don’t come here!" Yudian barked. "Run!""I won’t leave you behind!"

The white wolf advanced again.

A low growl rumbled from its chest. Golden arcs of lightning gathered between its jaws, forming a massive sphere of light.

Miya’s expression changed.

"It’s preparing a wide-area attack!"

Yudian looked toward the exit. It was only a few dozen meters away, but the team still couldn’t escape the cave.

"Don’t stop!"

He drove his sword into the ground, channeling all his mana into the blade, and raised one final barrier.

Hanna gritted her teeth and stood beside him, her hands glowing with a faint blue light.

"I’ll support you!"

"No, Hanna, you have to run!"

"If we stay here, everyone will die!" Hanna replied, trembling. "If I can save even one person, I have to do it!"

Ular stepped forward to Yudian’s other side.

"Then the three of us will hold it together."

"Ular..."

"Hyung, you already told the whole Guild to retreat. But the one who gives the order should be the last to leave."

Yudian gritted his teeth, his gaze gradually turning resolute.

"Fine. We’ll hold it off a little longer."

The three of them poured in their strength at once.

A wall of sword energy, a healing shield, and a layer of mana armor stacked up in front of them.

A moment later, the golden sphere of lightning was fired.

Boom boom boom!

The entire Dungeon shook.

Golden light swallowed everything, tearing apart the ground and scorching the rock walls. The defensive barrier lasted only a few seconds before shattering. Yudian was flung back, Ular slammed into the cave wall, and Hanna spat out a mouthful of blood.

But those few seconds were enough.

The remaining members of the Black Rose Guild had reached the exit.

"Hyung! Hurry!" Ular shouted.
