“He Li!”

“Marshal!”

Calls for the man echoed around. But as much as they wanted to feel joy when they saw him alive, they were stunned in disbelief when they saw his pupils glow in crimson red. His temperament has changed drastically. Full of a chilling coldness and an emotion that was burning up— rage, resentment and something else. It was not the Marshal that they always knew.

No, for now, this is not Marshal He Li. This is the devil.

“Ah Yin,” As Qin An calls back that name, the devil narrowed his eyes.

“You remember me.” He Li directly jumped down from the head of the zerg and landed a bit distance. On this ruined stage, they stood from each other’s end.

“You are doing this again.” In Qin An’s words, the man could clearly sense the disappointment in his voice which clearly mirrored what happened in their past life.

His eyes flashed and he clenched his fist. “And you are also doing this stupidity again.” He rebuked with a sarcastic tone, instantly covering the emotions in him.

Qin An sighed. “This is not stupidity—”

“Why not?!” He Li cut him off. His voice layers an anger that he’s been holding. “They made you look like a fool again! Why do you always choose to be blind?!”

A thick layer of dark energy surrounds his body. The veins on his head are throbbing and his heart is aching for this grim reaper.

“Why can’t you choose yourself?!” He paused for a second before continuing, his tone was laced with an underlying bitterness. “Why wouldn’t you choose me instead?”

By choosing him means turning back against everyone. This is not what he chose in the past so why would he think that he will do it the second time?

He just felt not convinced about the fate that he always chooses. He finally had the chance to become a human and live the life that he wanted! He finally had the life of what his heart always longed for, then why did he choose to leave?! Why did he choose to go back and lend his life to these humans again?!

He was with his side when he became a grim reaper again and spent endless years full of loneliness and emptiness. He was there and witnessed how his eyes glanced at the world with longing and envy whenever he watched everyone around him.

When he spent every night on a desolate place and stared at the dark sky, be it with thousands of stars or none. He saw him grieving without any understanding and served the world without knowing how much he was betrayed last time! Everything— he was there!

And even after remembering those memories now, why was his decision still the same?!

“You need to stop this.” Qin An’s voice brought him back to reality.

He looked at the chaotic battle around them and let out a cold laugh. “No!”

He Le raised his hand halfway and let out a large amount of dark energy. Without hesitation, he sent it flying and let the energy spread throughout the federation. Not just to give another energy to the zergs and evil spirits but to influence the human’s mental pollution again.

Qin An gripped the sword tightly and his eyes narrowed. “Devil!” He gritted his teeth in anger and he started to surge forward towards He Li.

The devil smirks at that call.

He is.

In the next moment, He Li also unleashed his sword and clashed with him. In the middle of that huge stage that was supposed to have those trainees who will debut and achieve their dreams, it became a stage for the devil and the grim reaper’s fight.

Qin An wearing his black robe moves like a shadow, fast like a lightning as he swiftly controls his sword in a fluid motion. His movements were sharp yet it also carries his cold elegance. Whereas He Li wearing his uniform was a soldier in a battlefield. Together with his memories as a devil and how his body moves instinctively from his experience in a countless war, he was fierce and charged the fight with an immense strength.

Sounds of swords clashing nonstop echoes with sparks from each blade flickered. The wave of dark and spiritual energy flashes again and again as they clash nonstop. Their movements were fast and almost invisible against the naked eye. It was a battle that would greatly announce what fate would end in this world.

Yet even though their movements were like this, there was really no killing intent from each of them. There were wounds around their bodies and their clothes were scratched and torn but there had been no deeper issue to their body. At this moment, it was like when they are back in the past where they would always spar against each other and compete.

It was not because they do not take this seriously but rather, both have hesitation inside their hearts.

They clearly knew why.

They do not want to kill.

How could they do so? When both of them knew how much value they had for each other.

Facing this devil and having all the memories, Qin An understood his hatred. The Judge also told him what happened while he was still away. He was with him for years and did not hesitate to wait for him.

All those thousands of years that he thought he spent alone were not like this. He was not alone in that path but he was still as he had been, accompanying him.

He thought about the man’s question. Why does he always choose humans?

Qin An understand and even misses that feeling when he just thought that coming in this era was a new life for him. Even though he could not even understand why he chose to be a human that time. With every step of uncertainties, he welcomes the drastic changes inside him.

He met many people, learned those emotions that’s building inside his heart and even found a new path that he wanted. When he faced that choice to be a grim reaper, there was indeed a hesitation and reluctance but overall, he remembered the people that he met.

He learned how to cherish them and wanted to save them from the plague, no matter what cost.

He did not regret such a choice even until now.

Qin An had a firm determination in his heart and as he looked at He Li again, he remembered the man. Not the devil but the human he was.

They are very different. Yin was still like this, full of dark thoughts filled with anxiety and insecurity, while He Li was someone who looked cold but was willing to give his life.

Those two are different but they are the same. He knew, even with such contrast, their hearts will always be the same.

Qin An slipped past an attack and retreated slightly with a few steps away. His eyes met those pairs of crimson red and finally noticed something.

Even though He Li looked like he was concentrating on him, his eyes would subconsciously dart in every direction. Not because he was observing his surroundings but rather looking at some familiar people around them.

Shen Lou, Shen Zhi, Ji Wen, his core members of his team, the soldiers around… and most especially his father He Zhen.

It was not a glance with malice but rather something that he would always have as He Li.

Qin An’s eyes flashed when he understood something and the grip on his sword lightly loosen.

The sharp aura around him weakened and he sighed. His heart was feeling a stinging pain and he almost trembled with the intensity.

It’s time to end this war.

“Ah Yin,” he calls for the man.

“You asked me why I chose them.” The corner of his lips reveal a tiny smile. He gripped the sword again and darted forward like a bolt of lightning.

In a blink of an eye, he stood inches from the man. His arm raises and he leans closer, putting his chin on the devil’s shoulder.

Not the hand that held the sword but the other one which he gently placed on the devil’s back.

Qin An embrace the devil and chuckles, feeling the stiffness of the latter. “Why wouldn’t I choose them?”

As he whispers those words, his other hand also moves forward and thrusted the sword as he continues.

“When you want to choose them too, He Li.”
