June sat there opposite the two, watching Katy try to feed Nyx for what felt like the hundredth time.

"Oh, this tastes so delicious! It’s been so long since I had this local delicacy." She turned to Nyx. "Have this. It’s great."

Nyx shook his head, moving back. "I’m good."

"Why are you not letting me feed you again? Is it because you’re all grown and feel shy now or what?" she inquired.

Nyx shook his head as he turned to stare at June. He was scared of June getting the wrong idea. "You..."

Nyx picked up a plate of cake dessert. "This is your favorite. I ordered it for you." He smiled at June instead.

"....."

June blinked as he stared at the cake before accepting it. "Oh... Thanks."

Katy stared at the cake and then at Nyx. "How unfair. You also forgot that I love cake desserts too."

Nyx stared at her. "You do?"

She nodded, folding her arms. "Now what?"

Nyx sighed. "Too bad. I only got it for him."

"...."

She was speechless.

"Never mind. So, are you free tomorrow? There’s a new bookstore that opened around town. You love books, so I want us to go check it out." She spoke enthusiastically.

"Oh, no. I’m busy..." Nyx said.

"Huh? With what?" she asked.

Nyx stared at June. "I have to spend time with him. We’re partners, so we need to build our compatibility."

"...."

Katy stared at June, who had his eyes down on the cake and forced a smile.

June didn’t look up. He awkwardly dug into his cake with his tiny spoon, enjoying it while listening to Nyx endlessly come up with excuses to avoid spending time with Katy.

All of them somehow involved him.

"What about this weekend?" she asked.

"I’m busy. We have an assignment together," Nyx explained.

"What about next week?"

"I’m busy. We have practice."

"Next weekend?"

"Busy. We have another date."

"...."

June almost choked on his cake at Nyx’s random words. Cake had smeared across his lips as he instantly looked up at Nyx in shock.

Did he hear that right? Did this kid just announce that they had a date?! Wasn’t that too direct?

Even Katy had a surprised expression. "A date...?"

Nyx didn’t seem to care, though. He was more concerned about the cake cream on June’s lips. He picked up a napkin and reached out to him, gently cleaning June’s lips.

"Eat carefully so you don’t mess yourself up or choke..." he said gently.

June felt awkward by his overt affection, especially with Katy sitting there and watching the two of them.

He took the napkin from Nyx, cleaning off his mouth with a smile as he nodded. "Thanks..."

And at that moment, the atmosphere grew even more awkward as Katy casually exchanged stories with Nyx and June without necessarily forcing herself on Nyx.

She simply watched and observed as Nyx constantly looked after June, offering him his drink at the right time, handing him his favorite part of the meal, and even offering to clean off his mouth.

She also listened as they asked about how she had been doing and she explained why she was back.

".... Your parents convinced me to pay a visit since I was traveling back for something. So I decided to drop by," she explained with a smile.

June quietly listened, certain that Mr. and Mrs. Faux certainly had ulterior motives for her return.

After they were done, June insisted on paying the bill while they stepped out of the restaurant.

"I should get going." Katy smiled as she stared at June. "Thanks again for taking care of our Nyx."

June nodded. "That’s okay."

Katy stared at Nyx. "Would you like me to drop you off at the Academy?"

"Oh." June instantly stepped forward. "Actually, we have something important to do right now, so..."

Katy slowly nodded. "Oh, I see..."

She smiled as she stared at Nyx. "You’re so busy that I don’t know when I’ll meet you again, so... would you like to have a chat? Like a private talk, between the two of us?"

June and Nyx stared at each other before looking at Katy.

June guessed he couldn’t deny her that, so he stepped aside and allowed them to speak.

"Do you like him?"

Those were Katy’s first words as soon as the two of them stood alone at a distance, opposite where June was standing and pretending not to watch them.

"Huh?"

Nyx was confused by the random question.

Katy smiled with both arms folded. "I mean, it’s just a harmless question. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to..." She smiled as she glanced at June at the other end. "Because, I mean, it’s pretty obvious..."

Nyx hesitated and swallowed, running a hand through the back of his head. "It is...?"

Katy shook her head. "Too bad. Our Nyx doesn’t like me anymore. He has found someone else to give his sweetheart to." She smiled.

Nyx stared at her shyly. "How did... how did you know I liked you...?"

Katy smiled and shook her head. "It’s almost obvious when you like someone. You’re always like a puppy when that happens. It’s sort of impossible not to show it. You’re bad at hiding it."

"Oh..." Nyx said.

Katy smiled further as she stared at June in the distance. "Lucky him. He was able to win you over. I guess I was away for too long. Now I’ve missed my spot."

Nyx also stared at June, who was standing at a distance and pretending he wasn’t monitoring them. In reality, he was struggling to use his eyes to decode their possible conversation.

"Are you two already dating?" she asked.

Nyx hesitated, running a hand through his hair as he shook his head. "No..."

"Why? If you like him that much, just tell him already. I mean, it seems he also likes you." She shrugged with a smile.

"You think so?" Nyx asked, anxious and surprised.

She smiled. "I guess. You never know."

Nyx sighed. "It’s a long story..."

Katy shook her head with a smile. "Good luck on winning him over. You two look cute together." She smiled at him.

Nyx stared at her with a smile as well. "Thank you..."

Katy sighed, seeming to think for a moment before speaking again.

"And... sorry..."

Nyx was confused. "Sorry for what?"

She hesitated for a while before finally saying, "Sorry for trying to use you."
