Chapter 139: 139: KIND WORDS.

"Sorry for what?" Nyx asked, staring at Katy in confusion.

Katy sighed as she said, "I actually went through a rough breakup recently. I’m still recovering from it." She smiled faintly before continuing. "And I figured since you were still single and once liked me... Maybe I could use you to get through it."

Nyx was silent, simply standing and staring at her as she continued.

"I feel like a jerk." She shook her head. "I’m sorry. I think you two are cute together. A better match, so... I’m rooting for you."

Nyx simply stood and listened.

"So..." She sighed, patting Nyx on the shoulder. "See you around, I guess. I’ll be leaving you two to enjoy the rest of your date."

She said that before turning and leaving in her car.

June walked up to stand next to Nyx, watching her car leave. "So... what did you two talk about?" He stared at him.

Nyx shook his head. "Nothing much..."

"...."

June was speechless. "What...?" He stared at him. "Nothing...? Are you lying to me now...?"

Nyx stared at June before asking, "Are you perhaps... jealous?"

"...."

June’s cheeks flushed as he instantly choked, clearing his throat. "What rubbish are you talking about...? Why would I... why would I...?"

Nyx smiled as he stared at his expression.

"You’re overthinking. I’m never jealous..." June turned away, folding his arms. "I’m just being a good elder here, nothing much."

Nyx smiled and nodded. "Okay. Don’t be jealous, okay? We didn’t say anything. I would tell you if it was something you needed to know. Okay?"

June cast a glare at him. "Whatever... I’m not jealous," he insisted as he turned to leave.

Nyx smiled, following behind. "Are you sure about that...?"

June was heading out of the restaurant when he met Syll and Grey, who had just stepped outside. The four of them stood there opposite each other, staring at one another.

June stared at Grey. "What are you two doing here...?"

Grey smiled. "We’re on a date. Nothing much."

Syll stared at him. "What date? I can’t be on a date with you." He turned to face June and Nyx as he continued, "You should be aware of why I’d meet you two. I want to make it clear that I plan to be consistent with it."

Syll cleared his throat before saying, "The Red Dust Guild might not be the best option for upcoming potentials like you, but I’d appreciate it if you could consider..."

There was silence as June stared at Syll, then at Grey.

"I believe I’ve already made it clear, and I don’t want to be rude about it in any way..." June said with a soft smile while staring at Syll. "We don’t plan on joining any Guild at all. Me and him... won’t. So please give up."

Syll slowly nodded. "Then I guess I’ll be persistent enough."

June smiled. "If you may... be persistent with me. Because things won’t really be so pretty if you try going close to Nyx behind my back. I can promise anything but peace."

The two stood there, their eyes locked during the tense and awkward moment.

Grey wanted to step forward in defense of Syll, but Syll held him back with a smile.

"I might be desperate... but I believe I still have my ethics. So rest assured."

June nodded with a smile. "I hope so."

He then glanced at Grey, who didn’t seem too pleased with him for not being respectful toward his crush.

June simply ignored his glare and stared at Syll again.

"I’m curious to ask you something, though..."

Syll said, "Sure. Go ahead."

"Mister... Syll?" June hesitated with a smile. "Should I call you that, or...?" He paused before shrugging. "I guess it doesn’t matter."

Syll now had an awkward expression as he stared at June.

June then smiled. "I was wondering if you told my brother everything about yourself...?"

There was silence.

An awkward silence.

Grey stared at June. "What rubbish are you talking about now?"

June and Syll’s eyes met as June smiled, completely ignoring Grey.

"Oh, I guess it’s a no." He sighed before adding, "I’m curious to know... if you like my brother. If you even liked him at all...?"

Syll was quiet. He had no words as he stood there staring at June, his expression slowly changing with the realization that June knew something.

Something he didn’t want anyone to know.

And he was panicking.

"June..." Grey tried speaking, but June spoke regardless.

"I’m sorry for seemingly interfering in this, but..." June said, "I am just worried about my brother. I’m worried about his feelings and well-being too, so I can’t help but think about such things..."

"If you like him... I’d really appreciate you being honest with him and letting him decide what he wants from there." June smiled softly. "I wouldn’t really appreciate him getting hurt at all."

"I don’t want to be the one to spell it out for you two, so I’d like to give you the opportunity to do so yourselves... I hope you can consider that," June added.

Grey was confused. He didn’t seem to understand what they were talking about. He simply stood there, staring between the two of them.

Syll bit his lower lip as he forced a smile. "Thanks for your kind words... But I’ll handle my issue myself. And rest assured... I’ll make sure not to involve your brother," he said firmly.

If anything was certain for Syll, it was the fact that June knew his secret. He didn’t know how that was possible, but he figured he’d have to be careful around him.

And at that moment, Syll also understood better why June probably didn’t want to have anything to do with the Red Dust Guild.

"Best of luck, then." June smiled as he turned and walked away with Nyx, leaving Syll and Grey standing there.

And with him gone, Grey turned to stare at Syll, confusion written all over his face.

"And what was all that about?" he asked.
