Chapter 141: 141: AN EMERGENCY.

June had gone through all the possible plans in his mind that night.

All the plans he had that could potentially help him get back to the academy leaned toward taking down Mr. Kevin first. But he realized that plan would take some time to put into action. It would require a strategic plan and careful execution, and time wasn’t something June had at the moment.

It was urgent.

So, he realized that perhaps it wasn’t the best plan for now.

Nyx’s parents were clearly up to no good, and with Katy now in the picture, he could tell they were close to doing something. June had to act fast, and the fastest way was getting back into the academy through his nepotistic power.

And so, that same night, June rushed out of his room and down the stairs to where his parents were enjoying TV together.

June came to stand before them, blocking their view as he said, "I need your help. Urgently."

His parents stared at him in confusion.

"And what’s that?" Mr. En inquired.

"I need to get back into the academy," June said firmly. "Find a way to send me back into the academy by all means."

His parents stared at each other, then back at him, both looking utterly confused.

The class was almost empty as everyone had gone out for breakfast. But Nyx sat alone in the Esper classroom, going through his books.

Simon and Kael had gotten ready to leave the classroom. They paused and stared at him for a while, as if contemplating whether to bring him along or not, but ultimately left.

They figured he was probably too busy to come along and wouldn’t agree anyway.

While they left, Nyx remained alone, quietly going through his books.

After a while, Nyx received a message on his phone. He paused as he opened it and saw a message from Katy.

[Hi, free tonight?!]

He stared at the message for a while, already thinking of a better excuse to give her. But before he could come up with anything, Katy sent another message.

[Don’t give any excuses at all, I know you’re thinking of one now!]

[I desperately need you around. It’s an emergency. A big, big emergency. I’m basically in trouble.]

[So please don’t reject me! Please!]

Nyx stared at the messages for a while, perplexed. He didn’t know what to reply, but finally asked:

[What’s wrong?]

[I’m in big trouble. So please, I need to meet you for something important to discuss. Okay? So please let’s meet up!]

[Don’t stand me up!]

Nyx thought for a while. He wanted to turn her down, but Katy was begging.

Katy was someone who had been close to him since childhood. Even though they weren’t extremely close, he still couldn’t deny their friendship.

So, he found himself agreeing to meet her and help her.

[Thanks!]

[I’ll drop the address for you! So please don’t stand me up! Okay?!]

She dropped the address, and Nyx stared at it. It was a restaurant he was somewhat familiar with. He guessed he had no choice but to go since he had already agreed to meet her.

Nyx sighed as he continued studying.

Finn staggered backward, his back crashing harshly against the wall of the restroom.

He gasped as he struggled to stand firmly while looking down. He couldn’t bring himself to meet Rayder’s eyes.

Rayder had pushed him hard against the wall and grabbed Finn by the collar, glaring furiously at him.

"You... You useless F-rank trash..." Rayder muttered furiously as Finn struggled to look away.

"One job. I just gave you one fucking job to sabotage them, and you couldn’t even handle that?! What else can a useless F-rank like you do?!" he snapped furiously.

Finn lowered his head even more as he stuttered, "They were... I didn’t expect them to find out that fast..."

"Who cares?!" Rayder snapped, holding him firmly by the neck. "Useless... just useless!"

He let go of him.

Furious, Rayder ran a hand through his hair and paced around the restroom. "Because of your silly incompetence, our reputation is over... Those jerks... They ruined it all..."

He turned and stared at Finn. "And you... I’ll make sure you suffer for it."

Finn stared up at him with a gasp. "But I..."

"I don’t care," Rayder said, walking up to him. "A poor, pathetic F-rank like you... with no powers, no background, or anything... How long do you think you can survive at this academy?"

Finn gasped as he stared at him.

Rayder continued, "I gave you an opportunity to survive. I made it easy for you. All you had to do was sabotage them. I gave you a chance, but you messed it all up."

Rayder smiled as he said, "I suppose I’ll have to show you the consequences of failing to complete a simple task. I’ll show you the real fate of an F-rank Guide like you with no background at all. I’d like to see how that works out for you..."

Finn gasped as he staggered forward. "No, you... You promised... I..." He struggled to get the words out. "My... my..."

"I don’t have time to waste on you," Rayder said as he turned his back on him. "You didn’t keep your own side of the promise, so why should I bother?"

"Besides, we made a deal. And I guess I’ll have to keep my own end of it."

Rayder turned to him with a smile. "Blame yourself and your incompetence for that. Okay?"

He turned and walked off.

With Rayder gone, Finn struggled to stand firmly on his feet, but to no avail. He eventually collapsed onto the ground, sitting there and staring at the floor as if it held any solutions to the problems before him.

He gasped, tears gently rolling down his eyes as he bit his lower lip.

"It’s..." he muttered to himself. "It’s not fair at all..."

Evening had arrived, and Nyx had found his way out of the academy to meet Katy at the spot they had agreed to meet.
