Chapter 148: 148: SIGN IT, OR NOT?

Mr. Kevin sighed as he turned his back to him, arms folded as he said, "That’s great. That’s great. So, if there’s nothing left, you could leave the tray there and leave. We’ll talk later."

Syll hesitated as he turned and stared at the two men in lab coats behind him, then looked up at Mr. Kevin. "You promised to sign the continued budget plan for the Red Dust Guild organization if I got these... So please do it now."

Mr. Kevin turned to him. "You’re being demanding. It’s annoying. Can’t you see I’m busy?"

Syll raised his chin. "I need assurance before I leave here. Sign it at your office. It won’t take too long. I can’t leave trusting that you’d do it... It never ends well."

Mr. Kevin smiled at him. "How inhuman of you, not to trust your own father..." He sighed before saying, "But right now, I’m too busy to pay attention to your tantrums. I’m busy, and like I promised, I’ll sign it when I’m done..."

He turned around again, arms behind his back. "So leave here before I ask security to throw you out."

Syll slowly clenched his fist as he stared at Mr. Kevin’s back.

Mr. Kevin stared at the scientists working close to the machine. "Begin the process... We don’t have much time left at all to waste."

They nodded as they prepared to turn on the machine.

"Okay..." Syll forced a smile as he nodded. "Then I guess I won’t force you to sign it."

June and Ryan slowly turned and stared at each other, both wearing lab coats and holding the trays of blood samples.

They only nodded at each other. Ryan placed a hand at the side of his hair and instantly pulled out a tiny pin.

Immediately, he positioned it and fired without a second thought. It went flying straight toward the machine.

And just as a man was about to press the red button to turn on the machine, the pin instantly hit his hand.

"Ouch!" He let out a loud cry, pulling his hand down and falling to his knees in immense pain.

The single action pulled everyone’s attention as Mr. Kevin turned toward the scene.

"Turn it on! Now!" That was the first thought that came to him. It was the most important thing to him now.

Immediately, another person reached out to turn on the button. Ryan simultaneously pulled out more pins and sent them flying toward the scene.

Effortlessly, they hit their targets, sending the men and women attempting to turn on the machine falling backward and clutching their hands and feet in instant pain.

Mr. Kevin gasped as he turned to Syll. "What the fuck is this?"

Syll smiled. "Sign or... no sign?"

Furious, Mr. Kevin stared at the suspicious men in lab coats behind him before turning and rushing toward the machine in an attempt to turn it on himself.

But Syll instantly slid toward him, stretching out his leg and sweeping his feet out from under him.

Mr. Kevin fell flat on his face without any protection. His chin struck the floor, and he groaned in immense pain.

June and Ryan took off their masks and glasses as they instantly rushed toward the scene.

June dived toward the bed where Nyx was held. On his knees beside him, he pulled at the wires and pipes wrapped around Nyx, looking for a way to free him.

But it was too complicated for him to understand. Pulling them off seemed risky enough, so he turned to stare at Nyx with concern.

"Nyx... are you okay...?" he asked, gently patting Nyx’s cheeks and brushing his hand across his forehead. "Nyx, can you hear me?"

"It’s me. June... I’m here. I’m here to save you. Wake up, okay? It’s okay... I’m here..." June said, continuously trying to find a way to set him free. "Just hang in there..."

With the men in lab coats down, Ryan rushed toward the machine and began studying it.

"Now what... this..." He tilted his head, trying to understand the connections and how to work around them. "Maybe this and this...?"

While he studied the machine, trying to disable everything, Mr. Kevin struggled to his feet and stared at the scene. His face was red with fury.

But before he could fully stand, Syll kicked him from behind, sending him falling flat on his face again.

Furious, he turned around to face Syll, his face still red with anger as he snapped, "What the hell do you think you’re doing? How can you do this to your own father?! Don’t you have any ethics? Bringing in intruders to ruin everything I’ve worked my whole life for... What the hell do you think you’re doing?!"

But Syll scoffed as he said, "Father? Ethics? What are you talking about... Since when has that ever been considered in our dynamic?"

Syll clenched his fist as he said, "I knew I should have thrown you away the day you were born, you wretched beast..."

He snapped as he instantly got to his feet and tapped the button in his hand.

Immediately, white dust exploded and filled the room with a thick, dusty mist, making it difficult for everyone to see.

Syll instantly placed a hand over his eyes, coughing while struggling to see. He waved his hands, trying to clear the dust from the scene.

But before the mist could clear, he no longer saw Mr. Kevin on the floor.

"That..." he muttered as he instantly turned around, looking for where he could see him.

The misty scene cleared faster than it had appeared. And by the time it cleared up, Syll caught sight of Mr. Kevin standing at a corner of the lab.

Not close to the machine or the bed at all, but rather close to a line of wires connected to something. He stared at Syll with a mischievous smile.

Syll stared at him, his eyes studying the wires and their connections. And at that moment, he didn’t need anyone to tell him what Mr. Kevin was up to.

He had another means to turn on the machine and continue his test.
