Chapter 147: NOT HAPPY TO SEE ME?
Chapter 147: 147: NOT HAPPY TO SEE ME?
They walked past some men and women in lab coats as they made their way through the hallway.
Everyone seemed exceptionally busy today, going through the papers in their hands while discussing something as they walked past them.
No one paid much attention to them at all. And those who did simply bowed and continued on their way.
Soon, they arrived at a spot away from the sight of other people. It was an empty room filled with jars of experimental liquids.
There, June and the rest pulled off the transparent ropes covering their eyes while Grey helped them remove the cuffs from their hands.
June stretched out his arms and ran a hand through his hair as he looked around. "Wow, that was crazily easy..."
Ryan nodded. "I guess you really have the authority around here..." he stated, looking at Syll. Everyone did.
"Who are you here...?" Grey inquired.
But Syll brushed it off. "I’m the leader of a guild organization. Of course I should be respected," he said as he turned around.
"That’s about that... If you’re going to confront Mr. Kevin, I want to believe you already have a plan," he said to them.
June slowly nodded with both arms folded. "Well, we pretty much do have a plan..." He stared at the rest. "But we’d be glad if you could give us some further suggestions. You seem to know better."
Syll was quiet for a moment. He paused and stared at them all before his eyes landed on June.
"Remember to keep to your words. If I help you..."
"I’ll make sure we join your organization without fail," June said firmly. "You have my word on that."
Syll sighed as he folded his arms. "I’m only going to say this once, so listen," he said firmly.
---
Mr. Kevin’s grin spread with satisfaction as he watched his creation work the way he had hoped it would.
Nyx was still glued to the bed, wires and tiny pipes attached to him as different liquids and experimental energies ran through his veins, sucking out his yellow serum energy.
"Ah..."
Nyx couldn’t feel himself anymore. He shut his eyes as tears ran down his face, his veins popping as he clenched his fists, praying for it to stop or for him to just die.
With his eyes shut, all he could see was June. And that was what kept him sane. In these desperate moments, the only thing he could mutter aside from his prayers to die was his name.
"June... June..." His strength wavered as he muttered his name.
The machines stopped, and so did the test. Mr. Kevin smiled with both hands behind his back as he stared at the men in white lab coats.
"So... how did it go?" he inquired.
They nodded firmly as one of them said, "It’s looking positive so far."
Another added, "The energy rating is workable. We can proceed with the next stage, as we’ve tested all we need to know."
Mr. Kevin smiled with both arms folded. "That’s good... Now let’s proceed with the next stage already."
"Under such pressure..." one of them pointed out, "continuing now might be risky for him. His body has already been stretched to its limit while going through the first test..."
She continued, "I think his body might need some rest before proceeding, because forcing it through might not be so healthy for him."
Mr. Kevin raised an eyebrow. "We don’t have much time left. Wasting any second isn’t what I’m here for..."
He stared at Nyx, who was lying on the bed, bound with his eyes shut. He was sweating, his veins popping as his breathing grew heavy.
Nyx lay there, moving like someone trapped in a nightmare while muttering inaudible words.
"And like I said, he might be an F-rank, but he has an S-rank potential... or more. So we’re not going to waste any time. He can handle everything thrown at him."
He added, "So don’t stop at all. Proceed... right now," he insisted, staring at Nyx like prey helplessly caught in his trap.
The scientists stared at each other, then back at him. They couldn’t question him at all. All they could do was obey as they slowly nodded and proceeded with the work.
They were running the final checks before continuing with the next phase. At that moment, Mr. Kevin stared at Nyx with a smile.
"Bear it... Sooner or later, you’ll be my little creation." He smiled. "You’ll be my greatest creation..."
He chuckled softly before adding, "And then they’ll be forced to recognize and worship me..."
"I’m back."
Mr. Kevin heard someone say from behind. He instantly broke from his inner thoughts and turned to see Syll standing there.
Syll was standing with two scientists behind him, both in white lab coats, face masks, and lab glasses, making it hard to tell who they were.
Mr. Kevin didn’t pay much attention to them. He presumed they were yet another pair of workers in his lab, as he had plenty of them.
His eyes fell on Syll. "Back so soon..."
Syll tilted his head with a smile. "Why? You don’t want me back at all..." He turned and pointed at what the two men were carrying: trays with tiny jars of blood samples in them.
"Or don’t you want the blood samples of those Espers anymore?"
Syll turned to face Mr. Kevin again. "If I remember right, you seem to need these for your so-called project. You should be happy I brought them quickly."
Mr. Kevin paused, staring at him. His eyes ran over Syll, studying him long enough for Syll to know that he was skeptical about his sudden appearance and everything.
Syll knew he would be. He never expected Mr. Kevin to completely believe him. He knew he wasn’t that dumb to simply buy his words.
Syll’s aim was to find a way to get into this lab with his companions. And as long as he had done that, it was all that mattered now.
Then, Mr. Kevin stared at the trays in their hands before smiling.
"I guess my dear son is so reliable after all." He stared at Syll. "That’s more like it."
