Chapter 198: 198: DATE PREPARATIONS.
"Oh heavens, how can I have no clothes left to wear?! I thought I literally brought half of my wardrobe back here to the school?!" June panicked, rummaging through his wardrobe and throwing clothes aside as he desperately searched for something to wear.
Ryan sat nearby, watching the chaos unfold as he tilted his head. "Isn’t it just a date with Nyx...? He’s not some stranger you’re applying to work for at his company or something..."
June glared at him, shaking his head. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. You really don’t understand anything. This is an important day! I can’t go meeting him in just anything!"
Ryan slowly nodded, glancing down at the clothes June had thrown aside. "But all the clothes you’ve tried so far look amazing..."
June glared at him. "Oh dear... You’re truly beyond redemption." He shook his head before glancing at his remaining clothes. "Well, I guess I’ll have to make do with what I have. It’s a fashion emergency!" He turned to Ryan with a reluctant expression. "I hate to say this, but you’ll have to help me."
"Huh? I..." Ryan barely had time to respond before June grabbed him and dragged him along.
---
June stood before the full-length mirror, changing outfits as quickly as one could change expressions.
He eventually settled on a black sweater and jeans, standing before the mirror as he fixed his hair and examined his appearance. "How does this look? Does it look effortless? Like I didn’t even care about looking good today?"
Ryan stood beside him, studying the outfit before slowly nodding. "Well, yeah. It’s casual and nice..."
June glared at him. "Being casual is a sin for me in a situation like this!" He shook his head and scrutinized his reflection. "And I look like a criminal who just escaped from jail."
"..." Ryan stared at him in silence.
June turned around and went off to change again. This time, he returned in an extravagant yellow shirt and matching trousers, adjusting his tie as he stared at himself in the mirror.
Ryan blinked. "Why are you wearing that to a date? Isn’t it a bit too much...?"
June touched his face, frowning at his reflection. "Why do I look so pale...?" He blinked in realization. "I knew I shouldn’t have trusted that midnight makeup!"
He shook his head and turned away from the mirror. "And this outfit would’ve been good if my face didn’t look like it got hit by a bus!"
He soon returned in another outfit, leaving Ryan staring at him speechlessly. The look was rather grand for the occasion, but June seemed to be waiting for a verdict.
"No. It looks like too much..." Ryan finally managed to say.
"Yes, I agree. It doesn’t match my face card." June nodded solemnly before turning around to change again.
"..." Ryan rubbed a hand over his forehead, already exhausted.
An hour passed, and they were still at it. June eventually appeared before the mirror in a denim jacket and matching jeans.
"This looks good..." Ryan slowly nodded, barely keeping himself awake.
June tilted his head as he examined himself. "Well... it could work, but..."
"What now?" Ryan stared at him in disbelief. "At this point, just wear a gown to the date!"
June paused and looked at him. "Wait, should I...?"
Ryan was left speechless. "You..."
June shook his head and turned back to the mirror. "No, I look like some hungry gangster in this. Absolutely not." With that, he went off to change yet again.
They continued for another hour until Ryan was practically sprawled across the bed, exhausted from the ordeal.
"Hey... I want to get some rest..." he complained weakly.
June, however, seemed to have finally found what he wanted. Smiling, he ran a hand through his hair as he admired himself in the mirror. "This looks cute!"
Relieved that the endless fashion show was finally over, Ryan lifted his head to see what June had settled on. His eyes widened in disbelief.
June was dressed in a soft, nerdy outfit: a pale yellow sweater over a white shirt, paired with black pants. His hair had been styled into a fluffy, puffy look, and he wore a pair of glasses that completed the appearance. He looked like Ryan. A nerd.
"What is that...?" Ryan adjusted his glasses, staring at him in confusion. "Are you cosplaying as him or something?"
June smiled proudly. "This is perfect! I should dress in his style so we look like a compatible, matching couple!" He seemed thoroughly pleased with himself as he admired his nerdy appearance.
Ryan sighed and shook his head. "You know what? I’ve been practically useless here, so I should just go and sleep." He turned around and collapsed onto his bed.
June continued smiling at himself in the mirror. "This is perfect! Now, all that’s left is to leave..." He paused, his expression suddenly changing. "Oh no! What shoes should I wear with this?!"
"..." Ryan panicked.
And so, another hour was wasted.
---
By 11 p.m., June finally arrived at the location where they were supposed to meet for their date, standing by the street in his carefully assembled nerdy outfit.
He was worried that he was already late and that Nyx must have been waiting for ages. He was even planning how to coax and apologize to him, perhaps by explaining that he’d almost been hit by a bus or something.
However, upon arriving, June was rather shocked to discover that Nyx wasn’t there yet. The ever-so-punctual Nyx wasn’t already waiting at the venue as he’d expected.
June paused, staring at his wristwatch before looking around. "Did he get lost or miss the venue or something...?" He scratched his head, wondering where Nyx could be.
He even sent Nyx a message asking where he was, and the reply came shortly afterward.
[Sorry for being late... I’m almost there. Just wait for me for a little while...]
June read the message with a sigh. "I guess the punctual nerd is finally learning how to be late." He scoffed. "That’s good progress, I suppose."
Shrugging, he stood there and began waiting for Nyx.
Another thirty minutes passed, and June found himself pacing back and forth, growing increasingly worried about what was taking Nyx so long.
Had something bad happened? Was he stuck in traffic? June couldn’t tell. He continued walking up and down the street, hoping that Nyx was at least safe.
After waiting for another while, he finally decided to call Nyx to make sure he was okay and still on his way.
But just as he was about to do so, he heard someone calling out to him. A familiar voice.
"I’m sorry for being late!" Nyx called, running toward him from a distance.
Relieved, June looked up to see him approaching. However, his relief quickly gave way to surprise as he took in Nyx’s appearance.
The difference was startling.
June stared at the person standing before him, momentarily speechless.
