Chapter 213: 213: NOT UNDER MY WATCH [VOL. 4]
Jason furiously tossed everything around the room, smashing whatever his hands could reach as he clenched his fists in anger.
"That good-for-nothing... that bastard!" Jason gritted his teeth, glaring into thin air.
Meanwhile, Karen and the others sat on the couch, scrolling through the trending videos on their phones. They were completely speechless. When had this even happened? They had no idea, yet they were certain it had happened, and now the videos were trending all over the media.
"How... How is this even possible?" Evelyn was at a loss for words. "This can’t be real... How did we do this? How did he make us do this?"
They thought back to what had happened, tracing everything to the moment June had appeared.
"It happened after he came here," Luther said. "I’m certain he has a hand in this. That worthless Guide is behind all of it..."
Karen scoffed as he looked up at Jason. "I’ve always had a theory, but this has simply confirmed it for me." He narrowed his eyes. "That Guide isn’t as easy to deal with as we thought. He has some kind of skill."
The others turned to him, and Evelyn immediately asked, "What do you mean? What have you found out?"
Karen scoffed again before explaining, "I read something about him after he cleared an anomaly dungeon. There was that incident where he made the late Mr. Kevin kneel before him and beg."
"I always thought it was strange and made no sense. How could someone like him suddenly kneel before a Guide? It got me thinking..."
He paused briefly before continuing, "And then there was the Cosmic Dungeon. He used that trick on us, too, when we were acting as though we weren’t even in our own bodies."
As Karen explained, the others listened carefully. His words made sense, and they couldn’t help nodding as they recalled their own experiences.
"That’s true..." Evelyn said. "Back then, it was as though I was acting outside my own body. I didn’t even understand what I was doing. It felt like someone else was controlling me..."
Karen nodded. "Exactly. And this has confirmed it. He has a skill that allows him to control people and force them to do things. He must have used it on us, which is why we did all those things without even realizing what was happening."
The room fell silent for a moment before Jason clenched his fists and scoffed. "That worthless Guide... Who the hell does he think he is, using such cheap tricks on us?"
"How embarrassing..." Evelyn gasped, her face twisting with humiliation. "This is so embarrassing! We can’t just let him get away with this. We have to teach him a lesson!"
"Of course we do," Luther agreed. "He dares to mess with us twice? He’ll get what’s coming to him, that’s for sure."
"But how does he do it?" Evelyn asked. "Is there any way to figure out the pattern behind his skill? Only then will we know how to strike back at him."
"Does it matter?" Jason replied firmly, his expression cold as he stared into thin air. "Instead of worrying about how he does it, we should focus on rendering his skill useless the next time he tries to use it on us."
Karen nodded thoughtfully. "There’s something in the lair that might work." He looked up at them. "Something that can nullify his skills whenever he tries to use them against us..."
Jason nodded, folding his arms across his chest. "Then we’ll make use of it, while also finding a way to make him pay for what he did."
He scoffed, his expression darkening. "That worthless Guide has crossed the line. Now he’ll have to face the consequences."
The group remained in the room, plotting how to get back at June, when a knock suddenly came at the door.
"Come in," Jason called.
A man dressed in a gardener’s uniform stepped inside. He approached them and knelt before the group, bowing his head respectfully.
They stared down at him as Jason spoke. "So? What have you discovered? Any news?" He narrowed his eyes. "I’ve had you people spying on Rayder for a while now, but there hasn’t been any satisfactory news so far."
The spy bowed his head a little lower. "We actually found something, and I’m sure it’s worth your time."
Jason raised his chin. "Is that so? Then let’s hear it."
The spy began his report. "We saw Rayder leaving the academy, so we followed him and found out where he was heading."
Jason raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And where was he going?"
"We followed him, and it turned out that he went to meet that Finn guy who was expelled," the spy explained. "We don’t know what they discussed, but we’re certain he’s up to something."
At that, Jason and the others exchanged glances before turning their attention back to the spy.
"Is that so?" Jason asked.
The man nodded firmly. "Yes. And based on our investigation, we’ve also discovered that he seems to be making some preparations."
He hesitated before adding, "It’s almost as though he’s planning to run away somewhere. He’s been quietly making arrangements, so we suspect he might be preparing to leave. We’re not entirely sure yet, though."
Jason cleared his throat. "That’s good. Thank you for the information. You can leave now and continue your work."
"Yes, sir." The man nodded, rose to his feet, and left the room.
Once they were alone again, Jason walked over and took a seat while the others turned to look at him.
"That kid... What do you think he’s planning now?" Karen asked.
Jason smiled faintly. "The details don’t really matter to me. It’s painfully obvious what he might be planning."
His smile widened slightly as he added, "But it doesn’t matter, because I won’t let him have his way. I never intended to."
He turned to face the others, his expression growing more confident. "We should get ready for the show, because I think it’s about to begin."
