Chapter 212: PROVE WHAT?
Chapter 212: 212: PROVE WHAT?
"Prove what to me?" June asked.
Nyx hesitated before answering. "I wanted to prove to you that I can control myself. I wanted to prove that I can control whatever is inside me... I wanted to prove that I could do it, but..."
June said nothing, simply listening as Nyx sighed and continued, "I wanted you to trust me... to not doubt me..." He looked up at June, his expression troubled. "I don’t want you to find me scary..."
June finally understood what Nyx meant by wanting to prove himself to him. He also understood why Nyx had gone to confront the Elite Five.
Nyx had probably gone there intending to start a fight, hoping to trigger his anger enough to force himself to remain in control even when pushed to his limits. He had likely realized that getting angry could cause him to lose control to that other side of himself, and he wanted to overcome it by any means necessary.
But from what had happened, June could tell that things hadn’t gone as Nyx had planned.
Gently brushing a hand through Nyx’s hair, June asked, "What are you even talking about? Why would I... be scared of you?"
"Because I’m a monster who could potentially kill people..." Nyx muttered. "If I can’t control myself and keep losing control, then I’ll be a monster, won’t I?"
June sighed. "No. You’ll be Nyx. You’ll always be Nyx, and that doesn’t change anything." He gently patted his hair. "So please... don’t feel like you have to prove anything to me."
The two of them sat quietly, looking at each other for a moment.
"And even if you can’t control it right now, you’ll learn to eventually. That’s what happens with new powers. You’ll find a way to control them with time. It’s only natural, so don’t worry, okay?"
He gently took Nyx’s hand and smiled at him. "And... I’ll always be here to help you through it. So please, trust me."
Nyx hadn’t thought about it that way before. But looking at things from June’s perspective made him feel a little better.
"Drink up now," June said with a smile, watching as Nyx slowly sipped the drink in his hands. He continued drinking quietly for a while before seeming to remember something.
"I..." Nyx trailed off, looking as though he had something else to say.
June hesitated, studying his expression. "What is it?" he asked. He could tell that something was bothering Nyx. "What’s wrong?"
Nyx hesitated before speaking. "Back then, when I almost lost control, I..." He paused again, seemingly unsure whether he should share what he had experienced.
June looked at him curiously. "What is it? Tell me... What happened?"
Nyx hesitated once more before continuing. "While I was in that state... I felt something. Something strange... Something powerful..."
June stared at him, trying to understand. "When you were in that state, do you mean when you almost lost control and transitioned into that other state of mind?"
Nyx slowly nodded. "Yes. Then... I felt some sort of energy. I can’t explain it, but it was close by. I’m certain it was somewhere around there. It was definitely nearby..."
June grew curious. "What did it feel like? Was it an anomaly dungeon?"
Nyx shook his head. "Not really... It didn’t feel like one. This was different. It felt like..."
He suddenly fell silent, closing his eyes as the memory of what he had experienced during his previous episode came rushing back.
When he had nearly transitioned into that other state, he had sensed a strange energy. Somehow, that energy had triggered a brief vision, allowing him to see something beyond his immediate surroundings.
The vision had been fleeting, almost nonexistent, but he had felt it. He had seen something, even if he hadn’t fully understood what it was at the time.
Now, as he recalled the experience, the details began to emerge more clearly in his mind. He could almost see what he had witnessed back then, and this time, the images seemed a little clearer.
"That..." Nyx gasped, shifting his head restlessly with his eyes still closed.
June leaned closer, gently tapping his arm. "Are you okay? What’s wrong? What’s happening?"
Nyx shook his head before slowly opening his eyes. He stared into the distance, swallowing hard as he tried to put what he had seen into words.
"That... I could see people. I could sense energies..."
June stared at him in confusion, trying to piece his words together. "Calm down and explain properly. What did you feel? What did you see? What happened? What’s all this about?"
Nyx closed his eyes, inhaled deeply, and slowly exhaled as he tried to calm himself. He needed to organize his thoughts before explaining what he had experienced.
"I saw people..." he began. "I don’t know who they were, but they seemed trapped."
He hesitated before continuing, his expression growing more serious.
"They seemed to be trapped by some kind of energy in a strange space..." He looked at June. "And that strange space felt close by. Somewhere around here... even around this academy."
Nyx was still struggling to understand what he was describing, but as June listened, the pieces slowly began to fall into place.
The more June thought about it, the more he began to understand what Nyx might have seen. And the realization left him even more confused.
Could it really be connected?
His thoughts immediately turned to the strange dungeon that had appeared out of nowhere, deceiving and trapping the subordinates of Grey and Syll before they disappeared without a trace.
June couldn’t help connecting Nyx’s vision to the incident. What if the people Nyx had seen were actually the missing team members? What if the strange space he had sensed was the very place where they were being held?
And if that were true, it could mean that the entire incident was connected to the academy.
Or, perhaps more disturbingly, it might even be related to the death of the student whose murder Finn had been exposed for.
The more June considered the possibilities, the more questions flooded his mind. Everything seemed to be connecting in ways he hadn’t anticipated, and he couldn’t ignore the possibility that Nyx’s strange experience held the key to uncovering the truth.
"Nyx..." June finally called out after piecing his thoughts together.
Nyx turned to look at him, and June stared directly into his eyes before asking seriously, "Are you sure about what you saw?"
