"That professor sure sprouted a bunch of bullshit at us and then left. Does he truly think I believed a single word he said?"

Alan scoffed as he looked at Erin’s retreating back. He looked confident in his words and position, but Daniel could read the doubt that was creeping into his eyes.

He understood the reason behind this well. After all, he had the same doubts in his mind.

There were many times during this conversation when Daniel wanted to stand up and tell their professor that he was wrong. But every time he opened his mouth to deny something, their professor brought up another good point.

And the more Professor Erin spoke, the more Daniel felt like he was right and that they were in the wrong.

"Tsk, what are you going to do now? I am not staying away from Noah. What about you?"

Alan asked in an annoyed voice, and Daniel wanted to agree with him. But he hesitated, which made Alan angry.

"Are you truly that concerned about what you just heard? There has to be a limit to how foolish you can be. Fine! If you don’t want to be near Noah, then I will court him alone—"

"But what if the professor is right? What if this is all happening to Noah because of us? Would you truly be able to look Noah in the eye?"

Daniel asked with a calm and rational expression.

Alan’s expression slackened a little, and he looked back at Daniel with the same irritated expression.

"What do you want to say—"

"Just wait and think about it a little bit. When did Noah start getting harassed—when he got involved with us. And did you truly not see the attitude of the teachers? They kept trying to push us together while causing Noah trouble. Do you think that is truly normal—"

"But that is because we are compatible and high-grade—"

"But that does not explain their attitude. Besides, I keep feeling like we are constantly under surveillance. I initially thought it was because we are at the academy, but now I am no longer sure. And it also feels dangerous..."

Now that the seed of doubt had been planted, it only grew more and more with each step.

"This is still all bullshit. I don’t believe you fell for this cheap trick. If nothing else, then I—"

"Just wait a minute here. I am not saying you should believe what we heard, but won’t it be better if we at least confirm whether it is true or not? If we are truly from the same place and it is causing Noah trouble, then should we not take care of it before we truly get together with Noah? Otherwise, it might scare him away."

Daniel pointed out, and Alan froze.

They both knew that Noah was not the kind of person who would abandon them just because he was threatened.

Nor was he a shallow person who would cut ties over a little danger.

But that was why it was necessary for them to handle this matter carefully. They could not drag Noah into the situation and see him getting hurt.

"Tsk, let’s say that you are right and we start investigating this issue...what do you think we should do?"

Alan finally decided he wanted to start taking this seriously, but only because it involved Noah’s safety. He had no other reason to cooperate.

But even this much was enough to make Daniel feel relieved, and he let out a sigh.

"Well, first we will need to create some distance between ourselves and Noah to show the teachers that we are on our own and we are taking their suggestion. Once we do, we can pretend to be close to them and get more information—"

"I don’t like this idea. It will leave others to try and make a move on Noah when he is alone."

Alan’s face twisted into a frown, showing that he was unhappy with this decision. But it only served to make Daniel look more determined.

"Well, I don’t like the idea either. But this is the only way to ensure Noah does not get dragged into our mess. And we only have this time, when the other students are not back."

Daniel pointed out, and Alan finally let out a sigh.

Reluctance shone in his eyes as he thought about this offer. But in the end, even he knew that Daniel had a point.

It would be impossible to do once the other students came back. So they only had now to act.

"So, what is the plan?"

He asked to make sure, and Daniel took a deep breath.

"Well, first we will pretend to be a couple for now and make the teachers lower their guard. Once their guard is lowered enough, we will try and find the evidence of our past that we need. That is all we need to do."

Daniel pointed out the simple plan. But it only seemed simple on paper.

In reality, it was something that felt impossible to carry out alone.

"Tsk, what a hassle. But I guess it means that we have no choice but to go ahead and do this. But what if Noah misunderstands—"

"Then we can clear up this misunderstanding later. For now, making sure Noah is fine is our first priority. And if we have to act in order to ensure this, then we should do our best. Don’t you agree with me?"

Daniel asked, and Alan nodded.

For the moment, they both agreed to follow the plan, but neither of them realised how difficult it would become once they actually had to pretend to be close to each other.

Alan looked away with a frown, clearly unhappy with the entire situation, while Daniel quietly wondered how Noah would react once he discovered what they were planning.

’Hopefully, he won’t misunderstand us too much. We are only doing this to protect him.’

Noah was a smart person so he will see through their efforts...most likely.
