"Get out..." Her voice trembled, her entire body shaking. She turned away from him, curling up. Her stomach was throbbing painfully, unbearably. Could this be retribution? But she wanted to keep this child, to become someone else’s shelter. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead, and the pain became more intense...

She turned her back to him, her frail spine stiff, long black hair splayed out on the white sheets, a sight that pained one’s heart.

He walked over, his large hand gently stroking her back, "Avery, listen to me..." He wanted to say that he was only acting with that woman, intending to divert Conny Hughes’ spies’ attention.

Aside from his scent, there was also a sweet perfume on him, one she was all too familiar with, because it was also Evelyn Yates’ favorite, probably also worn by the woman who was just with him.

Avery Jane abruptly sat up, "Get away..." Her abrupt movement brought a pain like a knife to her abdomen, her lower belly twisted with agony, forcing her to grit her teeth. Blood slowly seeped onto the linens beneath her, it was useless, retribution was indeed upon her. She couldn’t become anyone’s support, nor anyone’s sky. Her child was slowly slipping away from her body...

Seeing the white sheets beneath her, Joshua Hughes’s handsome face turned ghastly pale instantly. His first reaction was to rush out and call the doctor, who immediately pushed him outside, shutting the door. Joshua stood there as if plunged into an ice cellar. What on earth was going on, could someone tell him? His heart in his chest pounded like a drum, anxious eyes fixated on the closed door. He seemed to know what had happened, if it weren’t for Avery still inside, he might have completely broken down in that moment.

Beckett Wright held a pair of soft cotton slippers, the only thing available at the small convenience store. Though not attractive, they should be comfortable to wear. From a distance, he spotted a man standing out in a black suit, always the center of attention wherever he went. Beckett, with an anxious, moist face, hurried over.

"Where’s Avery Jane? What have you done to her?" The doctor just said her condition couldn’t withstand any stress. Glancing at the closed white hospital room door, an ominous feeling surged in Beckett’s chest.

"Is she pregnant?" The voice was as hoarse as the endless night, seeped in incomparable sadness from deep within the chest. Joshua Hughes’s thin lips trembled, the heartache and regret in his eyes nearly consuming him...

The warmth on his usually gentle face dropped drastically, shooting a cold glare, "Didn’t you know? What did you do that made her suffer so? She just said she can barely support herself now, let alone a child. Mr. Hughes, getting bored with old flame for new is a common fault in men, but could you stop flaunting it in front of her? She can’t bear any more stress, not a bit."

Joshua stood as if struck by lightning, his strong body leaning against the hospital wall, his pale face staring at the door, with several violent pangs, his entire being trembling slightly. How could he be so careless? The bodyguard had said she was on her period in Las Vegas and wanted to sleep, so he believed it, but she had snuck back secretly. She had deceived the bodyguard after all. But why do this? Was it truly punishment for him? His bloodshot eyes, tightly clenched fists showing bulging veins, unsure if he still had a chance to save her. This was supposed to be the only chance, but now...

"If you won’t take responsibility, I’ll take care of her and the baby," as long as the child can survive, Beckett’s gentle expression hardened, his words lacking their usual refreshing warmth.

"This is my business, get lost," Joshua’s icy eyes cast a murderous glare at him, his words gritting through clenched teeth.

Beckett clenched his fist, tensions almost reaching a breaking point, when the door suddenly opened. The doctor emerged with a dark face, confronting Beckett, "I told you to be extremely careful, and now this? You wanted the kid, but it’s no use, we couldn’t save it. I just performed a cleaning, scraped her uterus, otherwise it’d cause trouble, and it was painful. She’s on a drip now; don’t let her get up later, let her rest for two weeks, don’t let her touch cold water, her body’s very weak now. If she doesn’t recuperate properly, she’ll have lingering health issues when she’s older."

The doctor shook his head, a pity, these two are so good-looking, had they a child, it surely would be a child star.
