Chapter 1045: Chapter 541: Pure Gratitude

Julian Carter looked expressionless, suddenly coming to a realization in his heart.

He had more or less guessed it already, but everything he saw confirmed his suspicions. Avery Jane was indeed the actual owner of eight percent. When his boss arrived in Las Vegas, he apparently discovered this secret, but for the sake of this woman’s simplicity, he chose not to say anything. He chose the most intense and fastest way to personally end the Hughes Clan, ignoring how many grudges he might form with the original shareholders or how dissatisfied Luis Hughes and his son might be.

Coldly glancing, he turned and left. As he departed, his voice was as cold and clear as frost formed during a foggy day, “Miss Jane, I hope you take care of yourself. If the boss truly wanted a woman, he has ten thousand ways to make her come to his bed herself.”

Avery Jane’s delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly. Why did this person speak just like Joshua Hughes? When Joshua first met her, he said the same thing, and indeed, acted the same way.

Eliza Bell watched Julian Carter’s departing figure with nostalgia while hurriedly pulling Avery Jane inside. She was in a pitiful state, needing to be cleaned up first. But what was that expressionless man saying? Did his boss fancy Avery Jane? Joshua Hughes?

Julian Carter held back his anger, with no expression on his face, personally organizing all the personnel. Virtually everyone in the hotel was their people now, plainclothes guards on the outside, ensuring nothing would go wrong upstairs. If something still happened under such circumstances, it would indeed be a tragedy of destiny.

On the hotel’s top floor, he entered the room to find his boss sitting on the couch, looking pale.

“Are you trying to kill yourself? Your wounds are so deep, yet you dare drink now.” His anger started to flare; although Joshua Hughes was his boss, in truth, he felt more like a friend or brother.

The cold, handsome man ignored Julian Carter’s furious reproach, leisurely picking up the wine glass and taking a sip, letting the fiery whisky burn all the way from his throat to his stomach.

Today, she said her name was Avery Jane, and at their first meeting, his heart felt as if it had been thrown into the sky.

But upon careful reflection, what was he like in her eyes? She wanted revenge; she knew that as long as she asked, he would do anything for her. Yet she chose not to seek his help, forcing him to watch helplessly from afar with piercing love and pain, witnessing her fear yet determination to sit at the gambling table.

He knew clearly how traditional and conservative she was, yet she was willing to challenge her limits for revenge. But she never sought his help, leaving him embarrassed and pathetic. If he hadn’t come to Las Vegas, if he hadn’t prepared everything in advance, no matter how skillfully she played her cards, the illusion she constructed would have been dismantled in the moment the strap broke, and as she pulled the shawl to exchange a card, unnoticed by all. In the end, she would be unable to fulfill her revenge. His eyes replayed everything from today, remembering her little hand being viciously stomped upon. If he had been delayed a little longer, he couldn’t imagine what would have happened next, where a group of men behaved like heartless beasts. Thinking of such outcomes, his heartache was replaced by a chilling ice.

“All the evidence has been given to the police chief. Within three days, you’ll see Las Vegas change drastically.” Drug trafficking, arms smuggling, controlling prostitutes with narcotics—all of these were enough to imprison Vincent Hunter and his son for life. Was it worth it? Julian Carter wondered. They’d been conducting legitimate business for a long time without indulging in those activities. How much goodwill did he owe for this evidence, and how would he repay all those who provided intelligence, who certainly weren’t easy to deal with? Just for one woman—even though she was just a woman with a nose and two eyes, seemingly nothing special—why was the boss so obsessed?

Turmoil in Las Vegas ensued, as Big Head George, who had long wielded power, was called in by the police late at night for questioning and never came out, denied bail. Soon, overwhelming news proliferated, his past quickly uncovered, full of crimes and disgraceful deeds. But the most damning revelation was his orchestration of the murder of opponent George Parker, attempting to frame Hughes Clan’s president, along with horrifying acts of drug trafficking, and arms smuggling. The streets and alleys buzzed with discussion as credible news spread, and with solid evidence, even the lawyers dared not take such a case. Moreover, even his son, who recently had three fingers severed, could not escape this calamity.
