The next morning, when Avery Jane woke up, her head was still a bit dizzy. The sunlight outside was bright, almost piercing her eyes as she opened them. She trembled as she opened her eyes, her long eyelashes fluttering. The hotel’s white sheets smelled clean, and a warm body pressed against her from behind, almost scaring her stiff. Even without turning around, she could feel the eyes behind her staring at her like a beam of light…

“You’re awake, Avery?” The voice was gentle as water, but at this moment, on the same bed, it sounded to her like the sky was caving in. Her world seemed split in half by a bolt of lightning. Her slender fingers clutched the sheets, trembling. She didn’t need to lift the sheets to know she wasn’t wearing any clothes, not even a thread.

How could this be? She went out to dinner with him, didn’t she? How did it come to this? Her clear eyes filled with mist, but the tears wouldn’t flow. Beckett Wright got out of bed, his body tall and lean without a trace of excess fat. A loud “boom” erupted in Avery Jane’s head, as if her world had exploded.

Beckett Wright’s face turned slightly pale, looking at Avery Jane’s extremely fearful eyes, a sharp pain cut through his heart: “I’m sorry, Avery, I’m sorry…”

“Why are you saying sorry to me, why?” Avery Jane forced herself to calm down, even though they were lying in bed together, even though neither was wearing clothes, what did it represent? She’s not a woman who knows nothing.

Beckett Wright’s face turned pale for a moment, suffocating in silence. After a long while, his voice slowly broke the room’s stillness: “I’m sorry, because yesterday I couldn’t control myself, Avery, I can take responsibility…”

Suddenly the world changed color, all breaths caught in the throat, unable to exhale or inhale. Her gaze out the window was filled with despair and helplessness.

He sat on the sofa, head lowered, as though in repentance: “How could you, I trusted you so much…”

Avery Jane’s voice was sharp, her emotions nearing the brink of collapse as Beckett Wright approached her, wanting to comfort her. But before he could get close, she raised her hand and a harsh slap landed on his face with a “snap”…

Her hand hung midair, trembling incessantly. Her strength wasn’t great, so the slap didn’t actually hurt much physically, but inside, it hurt unbearably. Couldn’t she completely accept his transgression? Rather, she was strongly repulsed, filled with hatred. But if the man who shared intimacy with her was Joshua Hughes, that would be fine, wouldn’t it? This was the difference between him and Joshua Hughes.

Wrapped in the sheet, she tried to stand but couldn’t, slowly squatting down as tears fell drop by drop. No gut-wrenching sobs, no hysterical outbursts, just like a lost and pitiful child, sadness filled the whole room…

Beckett Wright’s heart felt like it was being sliced open, too painful to breathe. He wanted to step forward to help her up, but she seemed to have grown spikes, tough and unreachable. This wasn’t the outcome he wanted…

“Avery… Avery, listen to me…” His eyes reddened, he hadn’t anticipated her reaction to be so intense.

“Get out, get out. I don’t ever want to see you again, don’t want any connection with you for the rest of my life…” He’s so terrifying, even Joshua Hughes is more terrifying. Joshua Hughes, no matter what, was upfront from the start that he wanted her. But this man talked about being friends, yet did such things behind her back. Before, she had a good impression of him, once sighed that if she had met this gentle as water man before Joshua Hughes, maybe he would have been the best choice to live together with. But today, the things he did ruined all the beautiful feelings, completely gone…

“Avery, I can take responsibility. If you want to get married, we can go now…” He didn’t finish his sentence, silenced by Avery Jane’s hateful glance.

“You’ve ruined me completely clean. Beckett, I’m saying this for the last time, get out, never let me see you again…” Her gaze was firm, her tone resolute, without a trace of concession, without a hint of compromise.

He wanted to step forward to hold her, wanted to say that the two of them actually had infinite possibilities, but her reaction told him she truly hated him. Was he really wrong?

She didn’t know what was really going on, how things could happen this way. Her whole body trembled, as if she had lost the whole world, torn apart with pain. Did she have no tomorrow? Would she never find happiness again?

So filthy…

She felt so filthy, even though it was the first time Joshua Hughes forcibly possessed her, she never felt this overwhelming heartache of destruction. No matter what, Joshua Hughes did possess her in her conscious awareness, but as for Beckett Wright? The seemingly closest friend, the most warm and gentle gentleman, yet did such a thing.

“Why did you do this, why be so despicable? Do you know, I just decided to accept him again, I wanted to start a new life, I wanted to be together well with him, do you know I love him, I love him so much, yet you ruined everything. You make it so I can never stand before him, why did you destroy my life like this…” Screaming heart-wrenchingly, accusing him with each cry, looking at Joshua’s glance, he seemed like the most terrifying, most despicable villain in the world, his face loathsome, as if looking at him more would be so nauseating as to make one want to vomit…

He thought of many possibilities for when she woke up, she would cry, get angry, be overwhelmed, but he never thought her reaction would be so explosive. She talked about how she loved him, wanted to start life anew, she said he ruined everything.
