"You might like this; the caviar here is made from sturgeon eggs. Nowadays, there are too many fakes, but the black caviar is a delicacy originally from the French Palace, pairing with asparagus for a very unique taste." Avery Jane looked at the plate with two asparagus stalks covered with the so-called black caviar. In truth, she didn’t like eating it—it was somewhat salty and a bit fishy—but men seemed to enjoy it, like Joshua Hughes did.

Indeed, the food here was excellent: truffle beef short ribs and the supposedly world-renowned blood duck. Avery couldn’t resist Beckett Wright’s enthusiasm and drank two glasses of red wine, which made her head start to feel a bit dizzy.

The fragrance of wine and food flowed in the air, drawing everyone to the beautiful oriental woman. Her deep green gown exuded a gentle beauty, as if she was enveloped in a mist of green, with features like a painting and skin fairer than snow.

Beckett noticed the admiring glances from the surroundings. People might assume that Avery was his girlfriend; they did look like a matched pair. But she wasn’t, and the sour, bitter feeling within him felt like a worm gnawing at his heart, slowly burrowing into him, crawling through his veins towards his heart. Such a wonderful girl—was he only able to fleetingly possess her in this dazed state or perhaps as a figment of his imagination?

She didn’t like him, thus always maintaining a cautious distance, polite and careful. It wasn’t like the way she was with Joshua Hughes; her words might be angry, but there was a pure feminine attachment deep in her eyes.

He dared not confess too much, because she would mind, and if she did, even this relationship could not be maintained, so he dared not cross the line, no matter how much he wanted to.

The fine brew he awaited in the morning couldn’t intoxicate him, because his heart hurt too much, painfully keeping him extraordinarily sober........

"Cheers, to friendship........" Beckett raised his glass, a gentle smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

Sure enough, a few glasses would lead to intoxication. After just a few, she was already dizzy, staggering a bit as she stood up. She wasn’t good with alcohol, yet she wasn’t supposed to be so easily drunk. Sister Finn had her practicing a bit over the past months, but today was different, perhaps due to the long flight or jet lag. She might really be drunk.......

Gently guiding her into the taxi, a faint fragrance emanated from her—not the scent of any perfume, just her natural body scent mixed with a hint of alcohol, forming a captivating web that enmeshed him.

Their rooms were adjacent; Beckett escorted the slightly tipsy Avery into her room. Her breath brushed his cheek, unexpectedly sending a chill through him and igniting a warmth within him.

"Avery, can you manage?" he asked quietly, his voice carrying a rare hoarse undertone, as the clarity in his eyes slowly changed color.

Avery swayed her head, unsure if nodding or shaking. The moonlight, like water, seeped through the sheer curtains, leaving her whole body languid, her long lashes trembling faintly without answering him. If he got closer, more proactive, if he were like that other man and took her, would she then find a place for him in her heart, regardless of whether it was hate or anything else.....

His Adam’s apple moved slightly, as he watched her willow-like soft form, realizing he harbored such shameless thoughts. Yet, once such thoughts took root, they grew wild like weeds. Holding her arm with exposed skin, the exquisite texture felt like a shock of electricity, intensely seductive, burning his soul.......

His hands trembled, while Avery’s eyes were already blurred with intoxication, unable to open. Her whole body softly leaned against him, with her soft hair scattered upon him. This sensation was tantalizing, making him feverish and restless. He held her tightly........

His lips gently touched her cheek, lifting her slender body........
