Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1069: Consider This Our Farewell Kiss—Remember My Taste
The man walking out from inside exudes a unique, piercing, and cold aura. His footsteps are light, yet each step seems to pierce directly into his heart, Beckett Wright’s face is slightly pale as he lowers his head…
His temperament is completely different from Joshua Hughes. If Joshua appears to him as a contradictory man, hot and eager like a blazing fire towards Avery Jane, almost wanting to melt her completely, yet a glacial man to others, he himself seemed like a cold light source, leaving people feeling cold, hesitant to approach, but dazzling from afar, attracting everyone’s attention.
Yet his life’s temperament has always been laid-back, neither fast nor slow. He once thought as long as she was happy, it was fine, but now he couldn’t hold back anymore, seeing Joshua Hughes emerge from her room, the indistinctly ambiguous aura surrounding them reminded him of how passionately fiery their previous night together was. Such scenes sliced through his heart like a knife, piece by piece leaving an unfulfilled sense.
Why hasn’t he left? Does he want to share her breakfast as well? Avery Jane’s clear eyes swept over, looking at the man in a well-fitted suit with an irresistible frustration rising from within. She barely managed to act nonchalant while greeting Beckett Wright, yet he appeared indifferent, watching her, Avery Jane inwardly lamented: “I’m leaving soon, you’d better hurry and go…”
Joshua Hughes’s gaze flashed with a hardly perceptible light, he slipped his hands into his pockets and approached her, lowering his voice to say: “Heartless one, feel satisfied yesterday and eager to chase me away today, huh?”
His voice was low, imbued with fine, gentle magnetism seeping into Avery Jane’s ears, causing her blushing face to flare up with embarrassment and irritation. She looked at the man before her, with that irresistibly captivating smile unfolding on his lips, leaving her utterly mesmerized.
Biting her lip, holding that cup of still-warm soy milk, she hastened: “If you don’t leave, I will…”
In the morning light, her face was beautiful, the light shining onto her face revealed a jade-like warm texture and a touch of bright red. Just a bit of progress today, yet immediately about to part again, Joshua Hughes harbored pain and reluctance in his heart, along with fervent love, palpitations, a cascading wave of complex emotions. Firmly grasping the cup in her hand and placing it on the table, he drew her into his embrace, Avery Jane embarrassedly and urgently wished to break free, Beckett Wright still sitting there, what was with this man?
But Joshua Hughes wouldn’t let her desperately struggle free; he wanted that man to witness whose woman she was, and best not even conceive the thought. Right now, he couldn’t forcefully restrict her freedom of movement and keep her from leaving; the major issue being, he couldn’t leave himself. Luis Hughes had already applied for the court’s injunction, and during this unresolved case, he couldn’t leave the country because this case was immensely tied. So, he had to show his possession before Beckett Wright.
With one arm wrapped around her waist, pressed against her forehead, he hoarsely whispered: “I’ll wait for you.”
His deep gaze slowly lifted, observing the slight anxiety blended with faint reproach and touch of emotion: “I know right now I’m not qualified to monopolize you but know that I’ve always been waiting for you, always waiting…”
Suppressing the impulse to draw her into him, he slowly released his arms, gently brushing her face: “If I can’t take you to France, at least let me take you to the airport.” With that, entirely dismissing the presence of another in the room, he held her little hand in one hand and grabbed her small luggage bag with the other. Watching Avery Jane, who still sought to break free, his eyes held a trace of sharpness.
This man claimed not to be domineering yet had been overpoweringly forceful since the beginning. Although the strength on his hands had eased slightly, the terrifying possessiveness remained unchanged. He promised he’d always wait for her; to claim to be unmoved would be a lie. Such moving words spoken from the mouth of such an excellent man wouldn’t fail to touch one’s heart. It’s just their development yesterday was too fast, barely allowing her the chance to properly get to know him before everything turned out this way.
Avery Jane frowned her delicate brows: “You’re always reasonable, huh?” Clearly so domineering, yet his words felt anything but oppressive, even somewhat grievance. Conversing with him, not even a hint of windfall in language.
Joshua Hughes, clutching her, walked outward: “My reasoning, so useful to you? My reasoning is no use to you, you never noticed?” Joshua Hughes bitterly smiled internally; his reasoning was if he desired something, he must obtain it. But she was what he yearned for, nearly obtained, yet they passed by, because the feelings of having once obtained were exceedingly sweet, and losing those were heart-rending, making life worse than death, hence his cautiousness; in his world, he couldn’t reason with her…
Her want to be angry, unable to express, was extremely cute. While Joshua Hughes shielded her entering the car, he inquired: “Starting to like me a bit?”
Liking…liking him…?
So directly asking her, Avery Jane’s eyes flickered with a hint of surprise, her face flushed alternatingly red and white: “Arrogant…”
“No matter whether you like me or not, I like you. Even if you only like my body, that’s fine…” Joshua Hughes whispered, leaning over to help her fasten her seatbelt. As he got closer, his deep eyes grew more bewildered, suddenly lowering his head to bite her rosy lips. His heart was filled with aching pain and reluctance, biting her lip and enveloping it with his own, sucking intensely…
“No…” Avery Jane pushed him away. This was at the community area, though it was early morning with not many people around, there was still a risk of being seen.
Beckett Wright had just followed them down; he would surely see it. Avery Jane was so tense that she was sweating, wanting to bite his tongue, but he skillfully dodged away, playfully teasing her inside her mouth…
He held her chin, deeply savoring her sweetness…
Avery Jane couldn’t push him away, her small hands tugged at his shirt, wrinkling it.
“This counts as a farewell kiss, remember my taste…” Just as she was about to suffocate, a low and ambiguous voice rang in her ears.
She suddenly reacted, realizing that Joshua Hughes had already let her go. Avery Jane leaned back in the seat, gasping for breath, while the man who had just done something bad was calm, expertly starting the car and driving towards the airport…

Paris, as Avery Jane stepped onto this land, she felt perhaps people had described it too well. Though beautiful, romantic, and full of artistic atmosphere, when Beckett took her to look at the world-renowned Champs Elysees Avenue, she unexpectedly saw many Easterners with yellow skin and black hair. She could even hear various dialects, girls in cafes taking selfies of themselves or with a cup of coffee.
Avery Jane was drinking coffee, feeling emotional, Beckett sat opposite her, wearing a purple long trench coat with white casual clothes inside. If someone else dressed like this, it would always feel strange, but Beckett looked good in it, refined and tasteful, like a gentleman. In fact, he had always been gentlemanly. He never mentioned the incident from the morning, not making her feel embarrassed or humiliated…
“Tomorrow we’ll be going back. Tonight, I’ll treat you to the most authentic and delicious French cuisine, the reservation was hard to get, but fortunately, I’ve secured it.” Beckett looked at Avery Jane, this was the fashion capital, filled with beautiful and moving women on the streets, but the only one who caught his eye was the girl in front of him. But she belongs to someone else, and thinking about it made Beckett feel as though he had lost all strength.
Beckett took her to latourd’ argent Silver Tower Restaurant opened by Pope Henry III’s royal chef in 1582, located opposite the Seine Riverside at Notre-Dame. No wonder Beckett said to dress more formally; although called a restaurant, Avery Jane felt calling it a museum wouldn’t be an exaggeration. The corridors were filled with records of visits by renowned figures such as the Japanese Emperor and Empress, United States moon landing astronauts, Kennedy, Clinton, Yeltsin… Presidents were not considered rare guests here; the Royal House, actor Chaplin, and others even earlier…
The tablecloth on the dining table was white to the point of being nerve-wracking, and the table mostly had sterling silver utensils. The waiter handed over what Avery Jane thought was the menu; however, it wasn’t. Instead, it was a variety of renowned wines, including priceless treasures.
Beckett smiled and said, “The vintages of the wines here can be traced back to the 19th century, with over four hundred thousand bottles in the cellar. This wine list could almost be considered the wine bible…”
Beckett rarely drank alcohol, yet today he wanted to drink, which was peculiar. He was someone who was extremely self-disciplined and rarely drank, Avery Jane remembered Beckett didn’t even drink sparkling wine, but today he made an exception.
Another person not short on money, even though Avery Jane didn’t know much about wine, she knew how expensive it was to open a bottle in such a place. Beckett was well-versed in the ways of this place and ordered a few dishes, “The foie gras they make here is exceptionally good, spread it on their bread, very fragrant…”
He patiently explained each dish to Avery Jane, and when she wasn’t looking, a subtle and excited gleam flashed in his eyes, like he was eyeing prey.
