Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1073 - 554: Joshua Hughes, I’m Sorry (2)
-------------------divider------------------------
He didn’t meet her at the airport and realized she hadn’t returned; she didn’t board that flight, yet her phone was no longer reachable. It wasn’t that it didn’t connect, but she simply didn’t answer his calls.
Everything seemed to revert to how it was before, yet it felt worse than ever. He finally received a text message, very simple and clear, telling him it wasn’t suitable, so please take care, and she would be fine.
What does unsuitable mean? How could she be fine without him?
Everything was like a dense fog before dawn, blurring everything, making him unable to see the sunlight, feeling a chill to the bone.
He had even planned a grand wedding; Joshua Hughes stood in the office, feeling the air around him cold, looking at that message, sending a shiver down his spine. Walking to the sofa, he weakly supported himself to barely steady his trembling body, with deep eyes filled with helpless pain, and his long fingers clenched tightly, the knuckles protruding and whitening, as if he wanted to grasp something in his hands. But he knew that if she was unwilling to give her heart, then crushing his fist would be useless.
:"Avery, please come back first; whatever it is, we can talk after you return, okay? Don’t be reckless, come back quickly......"
He slowly said in a voice message, his voice hoarse, deep, filled with indescribable urgency, anxiety, and regret.
He shouldn’t have let her go, especially when they were just about to start anew. He shouldn’t have let her leave alone. He wanted to fly to Paris immediately to find her, but he was restricted from leaving the country. Luis Hughes made it clear, willing to fight to the death; as long as this lawsuit drags on, he cannot leave, and everything would come to a standstill, considering many of his projects are abroad.
She wouldn’t feel it; in the short time he received the message, what kind of pain he endured. She couldn’t imagine the feeling of him sitting on the sofa, waiting anxiously for her response........
Under the awning at the street corner, the rich coffee couldn’t interest her at all. A black trench coat, black sunglasses covered most of her face.
She listened to his voicemail repeatedly, unwilling to stop. She could hear the hoarseness in his voice, knowing how heartbroken he was. He asked her to come back first and not to be reckless; such words warmed her like a sun in the icy world. But how could she return, how could she face him, how could she pretend nothing happened?
The sunglasses hid all her sadness. She sat there quietly like a painting of sorrow.
A gentleman in the distance stood gracefully, quietly following her, watching her, unwilling to leave for a long time.
Returning home happened a week later; upon arrival, Eliza Bell almost jumped up: "Sister, this time you’ve gone too far, not answering the phone, not telling me about the rebooking, scaring me to death...."
"I’m very tired, I need to go in for a rest." Avery Jane entered her room and locked the door.
The small floral bed had its sheets changed, yet she could vividly remember the night before leaving, so wild and lingering.....
Perhaps they two are ultimately without fate, from the start like a disaster, unable to avoid, unable to escape, until she wanted to love passionately like a moth to a flame, she no longer had the status to stand beside him equally.
Julian Carter walked out from the CEO office’s exclusive elevator, entered Joshua Hughes’ office. That man coldly gazed at the world outside, his thin lips almost pressing into a straight line. His boss was out of control, he clearly knew this.
He didn’t know what else he could do, what would make her happy?
Would there always be an unbridgeable gap between them, an irreparable mental barrier, as deep and wide as an ocean, so despairing?
Without any news from her, his most cherished rationality at this time had entirely turned into rubbish. Scarlet eyes glimmered with thin mist, his face pale as paper. He had no solution; all he could do was wait for her, wait for her.
Facing the bloody storms in the business world, he had never retreated, never furrowed a brow, yet couldn’t resist the shock brought by one short message from her. That panic and heartache were almost the unbearable pain of his life...
"Set for next week’s first hearing, I’ve received news that the testimonies of all original shareholders of the Hughes Clan are identical, very unfavorable to us. No matter how detailed the work is, the numbers are too large, the sums too considerable, the projects involved too many. Unless no discrepancy is found in a single figure, it’s very likely everything will be unearthed. The investigation team has already stationed in our finance department; they’re cross-referencing database entries hourly without stopping for 24 hours. Also, the people Benjamin Lopez dispatched this time are tough ones to deal with. Joshua, this is a tough battle......" Julian Carter knew his mood was bad, but the things that need to be done couldn’t stop.
"Isn’t Leo Lopez still keeping an eye on it?" The sunlight outside the floor-to-ceiling window began to make his eyes sore.
