Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1074 - 555: You Destroyed My Greatest Love
The whole office was filled with the cold, metallic stench of blood. He had gone back to the way he was when he was first carving out his territory—bloodthirsty and feral, reckless, his methods so brutally violent they struck terror into his opponents.
But there was absolutely no need to make this matter so vicious. Had a few years of staying away from bloodshed made him soft? Julian Carter’s expression hardened, a faint killing intent slowly rising. Benjamin Lopez had been biding his time for so many years all for this day; he’d probably already gathered a lot of evidence against the Hughes Clan. But in this kind of battle, what you played with was your heartbeat—whoever was more ruthless, whoever had the stronger heart, would be the one to win.
He was actually curious—what would Benjamin Lopez feel when he saw his only son’s last functioning eye being gouged out right in front of him? Leo Lopez, that brat, was rotten to the core; all these years he’d never learned to rein himself in. If he became a blind man who couldn’t see pretty girls, naturally he wouldn’t be able to get his father into trouble anymore. A thin smile tugged at Julian Carter’s cold lips as he turned and walked out.
In a way, Leo Lopez was just unlucky. It shouldn’t have come to taking his eye. Julian knew perfectly well why the boss had been in such a foul mood these past few days. Women really were trouble. And that particular disaster clearly had already gained enough power to completely affect his boss’s mood.
Just like now—cold and frigid, his whole body radiating a "strangers keep away" aura. Julian reached out and touched the sharp little knife hidden on him. Overseas, he’d already gotten used to doing things alone. His face, as icy as frost, showed no expression at all, and his tall, straight figure slowly vanished beneath the sunlight.......
Joshua Hughes hadn’t been able to get a good night’s sleep for a long time. When the phone rang, he glanced at the number, and a glint flickered in his eyes. "She’s back?" The man’s deep, magnetic voice traveled through the line, carrying a faint, tired rasp.
"She just got home. The moment she walked in she went straight into her room, didn’t even talk to me. That’s all I can tell you. I’ve got to go check on her—something’s off with her mood." The woman’s voice on the other end was still as sultry as if it could drip water, but he didn’t like it at all. What he liked was hers—clear and gentle, a sweetness with a hint of girlishness, as if it carried a deadly kind of tension that struck straight at his heart.
He wanted to rush over right away and ask her what had happened. The night before she went abroad she’d clearly still been fine. But he knew he couldn’t go now. He knew Avery Jane’s temperament far too well; if she truly wanted to cut him off, she wouldn’t give him any chance to see her at all. Even if they did meet, she’d still say those same words. What he wanted most now was to figure out what on earth had happened to her in Paris. What could have happened that made her avoid him like the plague?
----------------------Divider------------------------
Beckett Wright had never imagined Joshua Hughes would come looking for him, yet somehow it also felt like the logical outcome.
The man standing opposite him had a chill about him that carried a faint trace of killing intent—cold, yet elegant.
"What happened to her in Paris?" Joshua Hughes looked at this man famed worldwide for his designs—brilliantly talented, with an immaculate private life and no sordid scandals to his name. He was probably exactly the type a simple girl like Avery Jane would be drawn to. But on that morning when she left, Joshua had clearly felt Avery Jane deliberately trying to draw a line between herself and Beckett Wright. Yet after just one trip to Paris, everything had changed. That girl definitely wouldn’t talk. If he wanted the truth, he could only get it from Beckett Wright.
A dazed look flashed across Beckett Wright’s eyes for a moment before he spoke lightly. "She asked you to come and ask me?"
"You don’t dare say it?" Even a cold sweep of his gaze was enough to release an icy, overwhelming aura. As he walked over, his steps were unshakably firm, and his deep eyes were bloodshot, brimming with barely concealed exhaustion and agitation.
"Don’t blame her. She was drunk at the time. I did it on purpose—that bottle of wine makes it very easy to get drunk." Beckett Wright had never intended to run from this. He wanted to test just how much this man actually loved her. If he truly loved Avery Jane that much, he wouldn’t care.
If he did care, then he didn’t really love her—just like him. He loved her so much that even knowing she was already Joshua Hughes’s woman, he still wanted to get close to her.......
