Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1078 - 556: That’s How Much He Loves Her (2)
He stood up from the bed, the light outside the window piercingly painful to the eyes. The person on the bed cried so much that her eyes were red and swollen, even the tip of her nose turned red. Tears dampened her hair, strands of black hair clinging to her cheeks, possessing a fragile beauty, a beauty that stirred the heart.
"Don’t think about anything right now, go take a shower and change clothes. I’ll take you out to eat." She sat alone in the room, bound to think all sorts of thoughts, and this kind of thing she probably wouldn’t share with Eliza Bell. So he decided to take her out to change her mood. She hadn’t been seen for just a few days, and she really became thin, slightly despondent and melancholic, her originally small face appearing even sharper.
Avery Jane sat there, lowered her head, showing no intention of listening to him. It seemed like there was an entire ocean between them, even though right in front of him, yet mountains and seas apart.
"If you don’t go wash, do you want me to help you wash?" The man’s strikingly handsome face leaned in close, his voice low and husky. He didn’t want to pressure her; on the surface, it seemed like he was forcing her, but only he knew deeply in his heart that it was she who had been pushing him all along, pushing him to love so painstakingly, love with such cautiousness.
What could he do, he loved her so much, loved her till cluelessness, loved till he didn’t know how to be better to her.
Still not a word was said, but finally, there was some movement. She struggled to get out of bed, walked barefoot into the bathroom.
He sat on the sofa in the living room; the sofa chosen by Eliza Bell suited a girl sitting, but as he sat down, it seemed as though his limbs couldn’t stretch out, the air carried a subtle fragrance, the scent of her favorite essential oil soap, she had already finished washing.
The girl who had just freshened up was as refreshing as a newly sprouting leaf, her long hair spread out, she blew her hair dry, yet still adhered to her habit, not fully drying it before stopping. Her face bore the marks of crying, but overall her spirit seemed much improved.

Julian Carter’s face had turned ashen, what was this moment? At this time, why did he run to accompany that damned woman? Luis Hughes and Benjamin Lopez had already begun a comprehensive attack on the entire Hughes Clan, the momentum of the entire public opinion was very unfavorable to Joshua Hughes. He had been portrayed as a person who seized family assets without any brotherly affection, and the entire inspection team had stationed in Hughes Clan, causing panic, although nothing could be found, yet greatly affecting morale.
A pile of documents was awaiting his signature for issuance, yet today, no one could manage to find him, what a ghostly situation.
Julian Carter settled down, furrowing his brows, silently pondering; not picking up the phone, but surely there must be a way to find him, right?
He looked at the sky outside the window, it was truly irritating, such torrential rains always happened during early summer like now, in just the minutes prior everything was fine, then suddenly, rain poured down heavily, blurring his vision. He stood still, contemplating the places Joshua Hughes could head to, now approaching dinner time, in this rain, he would definitely go to the Glass Palace.
Glass Palace
A ’full’ sign was erected at the entrance, but through the glass wall, there weren’t many customers inside. It seemed there was only one pair of a man and woman sitting face to face in the middle. The white tablecloth appeared brand new, printed with dark patterns, the crystal glasses with beautiful gold rims. Yet Avery Jane dared not pick up the wine glass, even though today the man facing her was Joshua Hughes, perhaps precisely because it was Joshua Hughes she dared not drink, the wine liquid beautiful as pigeon-blood Ruby would cruelly remind her of everything that happened in Paris......
"Why not drink a little, the wine of this vintage is excellent, you used to try it a bit before?" Joshua Hughes kept a fixed stare at her eyes locked onto the glass of wine, a hint of fear in his gaze. He wanted her to speak it out, shadows in the heart remain shadows, only by bringing dark things to the daylight can her heart be free from fear.
Avery Jane looked up at the enormous ceiling, also made of glass, rain washed over the roof, making the entire Glass Palace seemed as if sinking to the ocean floor, surrounded by water. If she stayed submerged with him, it might not be a regret.
"On the day before returning, he invited me to a very nice restaurant in Paris for dinner, the food was delicious, the inside very pretty, he opened a bottle of wine, because I was coming back, I was very happy. I drank a few glasses, maybe three, or five.... The next morning when I woke up, he was asleep by my side, I remembered nothing, I felt nothing, but he told me he couldn’t resist. Joshua Hughes, see, I’m that kind of woman, I’m foolish, to follow a man to dinner, I even got myself drunk, clearly knowing how he always felt about me. I feel I’m so terrifying, so, let me go please, maybe I’m a cursed woman, undeserving of happiness........" Her voice was plaintive, he knew this matter was true, yet hearing clearly from Avery Jane’s mouth, Joshua Hughes’s strong body couldn’t help but tremble. Heaven was so cruel to this girl, making her lose respect for herself, abandoning herself.
"Are you sure? You felt nothing, alcohol wouldn’t leave you without feeling, Avery, think carefully about what exactly happened that night?" This matter from the start felt somewhat off to him, Beckett Wright seemed intent for him to find out about it, because with Avery Jane’s nature, had he not first learned from Beckett Wright, she surely wouldn’t speak of it, would let it fester in her mind, and Beckett Wright seemed to know he intended to come for him, impatiently told him, something seemed fishy about it.
He was gambling on Beckett Wright having a trace of humanity and conscience.
"I don’t know......" Avery Jane lowered her head in embarrassment, how could she speak about it?
