Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1079 - 557: The Boss Is the Real Catch
The rain poured down like columns, washing over the Glass Palace. Outside, the wind howled and the rain was fierce, yet inside was a different scene altogether.......
The massive three-layered crystal chandelier on the roof cast a brilliant light and shadow, illuminating the tall figure of the man. Avery Jane looked at him, listening to the words that came from his thin lips, as if they were an apocalypse salvation. Could it be possible?
His eyes, like a thousand rays of sunlight, pierced through the rain curtain, shining into her obscure heart. She used to think Joshua Hughes was a man living in darkness, but now she could always feel the burning light and heat emanating from him.
"If something really happened, you couldn’t possibly be unaware when you woke up. You just had a few drinks, that’s all. Avery, your body has memory. Your body hasn’t retained any memories of him, has it?" Joshua’s eagle-like gaze locked onto all of Avery Jane’s expressions and changes. His guesses were indeed not wrong; she said she felt nothing, when she only undressed with Beckett Wright and lay down on the bed. After a night of ***, how could a woman have no memory? From the start, he found this situation very strange. Beckett had been saying he could take responsibility; he was just finding an opportunity to take responsibility for Avery Jane.
:"I, I......" Although the matter was peculiar, Avery Jane still didn’t dare to be sure. Because waking up in the same bed was too much of a blow to her, almost fatal and destructive. So on that day, she didn’t think carefully at all. How could she reflect on such a matter, let alone savor it? But now, thinking back, it really might have been that way. Who will tell her the truth? Did that horrifying thing really happen that night?
:"Don’t worry, leave everything to me. I have a way to give you the truth. However, you must promise me that once this matter is over, we’ll immediately get married." Negotiating terms is a businessman’s forte, ever since realizing he truly loved her, Joshua never thought there would come a day to negotiate terms with her because he wanted to give her everything—happiness, warmth, love. Everything he could give her, but this time he had to negotiate terms with her again, this was the last time, he vowed.
"I won’t agree, if you give me the truth, I’ll be very grateful. Joshua, if one day I agree to marry you, it will definitely be because I love you enough, not because you’ve done something for me. Beckett has done many things for me too, but I’ve never thought of giving him a chance, do you understand?" Avery Jane raised her eyes, clear like water, looking at the man opposite her. Under the light, the mature and dignified appearance of the man always attracted women. Perhaps she might really want to marry him because she has confirmed he truly loves her. But she didn’t want to accept his proposal under such circumstances, as it would be unjust to both him and herself.
:"Alright, Avery, let’s not think about anything else today. Let’s have a good meal; I’ve ordered your favorite dishes, eat more, you’ve lost weight......." His deep eyes were like starlight in the vast night sky, gentle and enchanting.
Her words were enough to satisfy him. She said if she were to marry him, it would be because she loved him enough; she was giving him a chance, while Beckett hadn’t received any opportunities. He still held a different place in her heart, and even if she didn’t love him, at least she liked him, and that was enough. What could be more delightful than understanding the other person’s heart?
Light like starlight illuminated the handsome face of the man, his obsidian-like eyes filled with kindness and affection, his sexy thin lips pulled into a charming and mesmerizing curve.......
His boss was acting love-struck, which was rare. He should record this foolish appearance for him to see. He disdained this life-or-death demeanor over a woman, nothing was more important than that woman. It was ridiculous; standing at the Glass Palace entrance, he could see the inside. Was this how people usually dated?
"Sir, this venue has been reserved for the day. You’re welcome to come another day." The attendant looked at the figure that had stopped his car, dashed up the steps like a black lightning bolt, soaked and cold, but with eyes colder than his drenched exterior.
He glanced at the attendant without expression: "Mr. Hughes forgot his wallet; I came to deliver it." He pulled out a black leather wallet from his suit’s inside pocket, discreetly luxurious in design and texture, highlighting the owner’s identity. The attendant said nothing further and proceeded to open the hefty glass door.
The rain was pouring hard. Having dashed up from the steps, his hair was soaked, and his suit was covered with a layer of water droplets. The suit was ruined, and Julian Carter gritted his teeth, walking forward.
:"Assistant Carter, you too came?" Avery Jane noticed the man walking over from behind Joshua Hughes, exuding coldness all around. How could Eliza Bell like him, always expressionless?
:"Boss, would you mind if I also sit down and have a bite? There are so many dishes?" He took off his suit, handing it to the attendant. The dining at the Glass Palace could be described as astronomical in price, but the service was top-notch; now the clothes that were wet, would be dried and returned shortly. Pants couldn’t be taken off, otherwise, it was best to let them be dried for comfort.
He didn’t bother looking at Joshua Hughes’s expression, likely not great, as he pulled out several documents from the envelope and placed them in front of Joshua Hughes: "I’ll send these out tonight." Just waiting for his signature.
The attendant already set up new cutlery for him. Julian Carter glanced; indeed generous. Two people dining, a full table of the most expensive and rare dishes. He impolitely ate; such chances are rare, besides, the two couldn’t finish it all.
:"Julian, your way of eating will make people think I’m a stingy boss." Joshua Hughes pulled out a pen from his pocket, not even looking, signing his name at the bottom of the document.
Besides being generous with the annual salary, what else are you good at? If you were stingy, only a fool would follow you.
While grumbling internally, he kept eating. The taste was truly impressive, worthy of the exorbitant price.
"Uh, so much food, want me to call Eliza over to eat together?" Avery Jane looked at Julian Carter; if Eliza liked him so much, she should create some opportunities for her, right?
Eliza, as Julian Carter realized she was referring to Eliza Bell, nearly choked on a tender piece of lobster. He hastily grabbed his wine glass, drinking a large gulp to swallow down that piece of lobster.
After signing the documents, Joshua Hughes glanced at Julian Carter, indifferently remarking, "That’s not how you drink red wine; you’re really wasting it."
What was he saying? Julian Carter’s expression changed as if he’d stuffed an egg into his mouth, quickly flushing and then cooling down. What was that—bullying? If he had time, he’d really practice boxing again, one day aiming to severely beat his boss—even if it meant losing pay.
"No need, Miss Jane, I’m leaving soon. There’s a lot of work at the company, very busy, pulling an all-nighter tonight." Julian Carter swiftly reverted to a serious and detached demeanor. He sensed his boss’s gaze at him was disdainful, as if he were superfluous, as if the important documents he brought held no value, as if braving the rain to find him was a foolish act.
"Assistant Carter, do you have a girlfriend abroad?" Avery Jane asked gently, her voice soft and pleasant.
"That’s personal." Julian Carter maintained his usual taciturn stance, coldly responding. The boss’s wife didn’t intend to spare him, what was the meaning of asking?
"No, I was just curious. Considering how excellent Assistant Carter is, many girls should like you." Avery Jane smiled bashfully, wondering if her question was too obvious. Eliza Bell had always been interested in this matter, so she casually inquired.
:"The boss is the real catch." The seafood soup was excellent; paired with buttered toasted bread, it was very appetizing. Julian Carter didn’t lift his head, quickly finishing dinner. He had to work overtime tonight, eat well for energy.
Avery Jane glanced at the man opposite, his expression gradually changed, yet even if the air darkened, he was still remarkably handsome, undeniably a catch—on this point, she and Julian Carter shared the same view. Even not knowing his past, in the past two years alone, while entangled with him, how many women surrounded him—from first love to secretary, even young models and others; there have been numerous.
:"You can leave now." The sound of the fork clattering onto the plate was crisp, yet it couldn’t conceal the coldness emanating. Only then did Julian Carter realize he had just said something he shouldn’t have, a big taboo for an assistant. That’s why women are nothing but trouble.
Quickly gulping down the entire bowl of soup, then finishing the crispy toasted bread, Julian Carter swiftly organized all the documents, carefully packing them into the envelope. The attendant had indeed already dried his clothes and presented him with a large black umbrella.
:"Assistant Carter, eat a bit more, there are still many dishes left." Avery Jane seemed to think Joshua Hughes went overboard. How could he be like this? Julian came in the heavy rain to deliver documents, how could he not eat more before hurriedly leaving?
:"Thank you, Miss Jane." Julian Carter thought, if he stayed longer, his vacation this year might be deducted for various reasons. Better to leave, moreover, the environment was truly suited for two; him being there did seem a bit obtrusive.....
