"You’re in high demand, that’s true, why get angry?" Avery Jane whispered softly as she lowered her head.

"But not so much with you, right?" His deep voice carried an undeniable magnetism, echoing through the vast Glass Palace. It felt like flirting, yet there was a faint sigh detectable in his tone.

"I want to go home. You should go back to work too." Avery lowered her head, avoiding the topic. If it weren’t for that incident in Paris, perhaps she would have boldly retorted, but now even his suspicions seemed plausible to her. That incident was like a dreadful thorn lodged in her tender throat, impossible to swallow or spit out, causing pain even when she swallowed.

Lowering her head, her black hair scattered across her cheeks, concealing her worries. There was no need to guess; Joshua Hughes knew exactly what she was thinking, hesitating over, and suffering from.

Her soft and sensitive heart was so pure and untouched, yet that incident was nearly a catastrophic disaster for her. Even though her emotions had calmed considerably compared to when he first saw her, it didn’t mean she didn’t mind anymore.

If it really happened, Beckett Wright ought to die a thousand times over.

"Drink that bowl of seafood soup, and I’ll take you home." Her complexion truly wasn’t good, as pale as paper, even her lips had lost their usual tempting pink, turning a faint shade of pink. She seemed almost translucent, which brought about a sense of fear, as if she was becoming ethereal and slowly fading away .......

Such thoughts made him shudder, the fear creeping slowly up from the soles of his feet. The girl across from him was quiet and beautiful, sipping the soup in small gulps. He knew she probably couldn’t taste anything now, but he still wished she could eat just a bit more, even just another sip of soup.

He wanted to cradle her in his hands and protect her wholeheartedly, yet she had been hurt more than once. But he swore this was definitely the last time......

Knowing she was troubled, he didn’t force her; after all, there was always tomorrow. When Joshua Hughes drove Avery Jane back to her apartment, the rain had lessened, drifting gently and unsettlingly.

Joshua got out of the car; the air was slightly chilly after the heavy rain. He took off his coat, opened the car door for Avery, draped his coat over her shoulders, and unfolded a large black umbrella, guiding her out of the car. "Get a good night’s sleep tonight, don’t overthink things. I’ve already forgotten about some things, and you shouldn’t remember them either. Leave any problems for me to handle." His eyes were sincere, his tone assured. Avery gazed at him dazedly for two seconds, clenching the coat around her tighter and nodded.

"You go, I’ll go up by myself. Eliza Bell is already back." The lights upstairs were on, indicating Eliza must have returned.

"Call me tonight, okay?" Joshua Hughes lowered his head, noticing Avery’s reflexive flinch. His lips lightly pressed against her forehead, then he turned and strode to the car, opened the door, his tall figure disappearing into the rain and fog, like a fish gliding away into the depths......

"Sis, you’re back. Hey, why are you wearing a man’s coat?" The exquisite fabric, meticulous craftsmanship, and needlework were impressive. Even branded clothing wasn’t this refined. No need to say, it definitely belonged to that man.

Avery Jane walked to the couch and sat down, her mind wandering. She instinctively wrapped the suit tighter around herself, still carrying his warmth, his scent, his presence. She was accustomed to it, a mix of faint tobacco aroma and musky scent, forming his unique aura, enveloping her and making her feel safe and comfortable......

"It’s raining." Avery replied vaguely, watching Eliza Bell with her long hair down, playing on her phone.

"I met Julian Carter today." Avery curled up on the couch, her long legs tucked in, as if trying to hide within the couch.

"Where?" Eliza put her phone down, her alluring eyes almost dripping with charm as she looked at Avery Jane. She hadn’t seen Stony-faced Carter in a while, with so much happening lately. Plus, when he showed up, he’d probably settle the debt of that night. Though she anticipated something might happen between them, she suddenly felt doing it for the sake of doing it might not feel right?

"Today at the Glass Palace for dinner, Assistant Carter came over to deliver some documents." Avery lowered her head, eyeing the suit’s buttons—very exquisite buttons, gleaming with metallic coolness, engraved with the letter "H"—simple and bold. Her delicate fingers extended from the suit, gently caressing the "H".

"I originally thought about calling you over, but Assistant Carter was very busy. He left after eating a lobster, oh yes, and also drank a bowl of soup and had two pieces of bread." Avery recounted Julian Carter’s visit to the Glass Palace in detail.

:"Did he say anything? Did he ask about me?" Eliza Bell’s bright eyes sparkled, and Avery almost couldn’t bear to tell her the truth.

"Definitely not. How could he主动提起女人? I reckon he’s never had a girlfriend, maybe he’s still a virgin." Eliza Bell stretched lazily, like a sexy, languid cat. But how could a virgin be like that? Thinking back to that near flame-catching moment, he was truly terrifying, seemingly about to swallow her whole.

:"Sis, since you don’t want to work for Beckett Wright anymore, do you still intend to look for work? I think Joshua Hughes’s place is good. The work environment is nice, you can probably name your salary, and most importantly, the boss likes you, you can’t go wrong with anything you do." Eliza worked on persuading Avery Jane, hoping she could get her married off soon. She was eagerly awaiting the day Joshua handed over the big ice block’s contract as a wedding gift for her.

:"Absolutely not." Avery Jane inexplicably blushed. She used to work for the Hughes Clan, being with him felt like being watched, with no freedom at all.

:"Eliza, you should sleep early too. I’m heading in." Avery wrapped the man’s suit around herself and headed to her room. Eliza Bell watched her retreating figure and sighed wistfully. It seems it’s not that easy........

His suit was draped on her, yet she couldn’t bring herself to take it off. His words today shocked her, even though she’d always known he truly liked her, she had never felt his affection was this deep. His words today were not meant to comfort her; his love had already transcended the impact of that incident. Just like shadows in the corner, as long as the sunlight was strong, no corner remained unlit.

The black suit, like the sun, illuminated every shadowed corner within her, making her feel warm and comfortable.....

A night of sweet dreams, she slept soundly. Upon waking, she realized she hadn’t bothered changing clothes last night, simply slept wrapped in his suit, leaving it wrinkled and crumpled. His clothes were never dry-cleaned outside, but she couldn’t return it to him like that, could she? Looking at the suit, an involuntary headache arose.

She peeled the suit off herself, placed it on the bed, then proceeded to wash her face, brush her teeth, and changed into comfortable home attire, heading outside.

:"You, why are you here?" Avery Jane blinked, could someone emerge from a dream? The man on the sofa was none other than Joshua Hughes, from her dream yesterday.

:"I came to fetch my coat." Joshua looked at her sweet, charming demeanor, like the first ray of sunshine after a rainy night, crisp and clear.

The table was laden with breakfast. The packaging indicated he got it from the city’s most renowned teahouse, where they served her favorite pastries. Avery’s heart quivered unexpectedly, it had been long since she last felt this way, akin to a first love—sweet yet tinged with astringency. If that night hadn’t involved anything significant, how wonderful it would be. Then when facing him, she would be full of confidence, at least equal.

:"Um, the suit got ruined....." Avery looked at Joshua’s handsome face, his lips curled into a smile, so breathtaking.

:"Ruined?" Joshua Hughes slightly puzzled, the suit was ruined? That’s quite odd, how did it happen?

Avery bit her lip, then softly explained: "Yesterday I fell asleep and ended up crumpling it."

Joshua’s heart melted instantly, realizing she had slept wrapped in his suit filled him with emotion.

:"It’s alright, but Avery, I suspect you might be a cat, because only cats like to drag their owner’s clothes into their nest to sleep." Delightedly teasing her, the gentle gaze overflowing.

He enjoyed being close to Avery, as if approaching a happy future. He didn’t know how to convey that his future had always been in her hands; from the moment he first met her, it never changed.

A slightly bewildered girl stood in the morning light, the tall man stepped forward, gently embracing her as if cradling the world’s most precious treasure, whispering in her ear: "Do you remember, I told you, as long as you like it, nothing is impossible......"
