Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1081 You Think You’re Worthy of My Game?
"As long as you like it, there’s nothing that can’t be done..."
"You can play however you want, if it leads to your demise, I’ll take the blame..."
"As long as you’re happy..."
The man’s words echoed repeatedly in her ears, deep and domineering, arrogant and unstoppable, just like he spoke long ago.
These words passed through time, through space, whispering persistently in her ears. Long ago, he granted her the right to be indulgent and willful.
Leaning against his chest, his breath was warm and safe, his embrace beguiling. But why did her heart feel so restless? He said he loved her, loved her so deeply that anything else seemed weightless in comparison. Yet she couldn’t overcome the barrier in her heart. If indeed other men had left marks on her, how could she face him, this flawed version of herself that even she despised? How could she face him? Even the deepest love couldn’t withstand the shame of facing him...
Each new day is always beautiful, because it’s a fresh start. The sunlight began to shine through the living room window, casting a soft glow on the two people quietly embracing. Avery Jane nestled in his chest, inhaling his scent, enveloped by the familiar aroma, wrapped up in its cold yet gentle, domineering yet soothing nature...
"You should go to work." She lifted her head from his chest and spoke softly. He looked so invigorated in the morning, his stature tall and imposing. Even when standing quietly, he provided a sense of security. She never imagined that one day she would find a long-lost sense of security from this man who had possessed her and inflicted countless harms.
"Just got here and you want to chase me away. What are you afraid of, hmm?" His words ended softly, causing Avery Jane’s heart to inexplicably race. The sunlight melted their shadows into one, his deep eyes shimmering like the brightest stars in the night sky. The fragments of light danced on his glossy black hair, exuding a charming and healthy shine.
With her tender warmth nestled in his arms, his lips curled upward, exposing a strikingly alluring curve. His smile deepened, and her hair’s fragrance wafted gently into his nostrils, intoxicatingly tender. The man, cherished by time, matured like an aged wine, rich and mellow; even his handsome contours were finely sculpted by time into an irresistible allure.
In such a morning, memories surged like the sea, and she realized that the hurt had already passed. He reimbursed her in every way possible, but she didn’t know if she still deserved happiness? Was she even worthy of happiness...
She was lost in thought, her gaze absorbing the plethora of emotions in his eyes — such helplessness, sadness, and abandonment...
His arms tightened around her, forcing her to meet his gaze. As their eyes locked, the pain in her heart dispersed inexplicably, her repressed unease and sorrow suddenly shattered. She could even hear the panicked, evasive footsteps that her mind desperately wanted to retreat — so helpless, so reluctant.
"Don’t overthink..." His gaze, sharp like an X-ray, seemed to penetrate her, seeing through her thoughts.
Avery Jane closed her eyes, daring not to meet his eyes, struggling to muster a wry smile: "I’m not overthinking. You should go." His gaze was too piercing, threatening to peel away her innermost secrets, exposing everything bare before him.
Indeed, there were too many matters at the company he couldn’t delay. He lightly kissed her forehead: "Come have lunch with me at noon." He wanted her to get out and about; staying home all the time wasn’t right.
"Okay." She agreed promptly, without the slightest hesitation, her face adorned with a gentle smile. Joshua Hughes caressed her hair and, after casting one last glance, turned to leave. Yet he vaguely felt her compliance was too swift, hinting at something amiss, although he couldn’t quite pinpoint it. But today’s matters were very important; he had to go...
