Campus Ace Girl
Chapter 1286: Still in Love, Just Too Proud to Admit It
King Jingyao smiled, propping his head with one hand and quietly reading a book with the other.
She didn’t leave, staying for quite a while until she couldn’t resist taking the book from his hand: “Sick like this, yet still reading.”
King Jingyao revealed a hint of helplessness on his face: “I can’t bear to sleep.”
She said she wouldn’t come tomorrow.
Lin Hua, at a loss for words, got up and sat on the sofa: “I’ll come again tomorrow.”
Old Wang’s eyes instantly lit up, as if he’d received a treasure: “Really?”
She responded with a hum.
King Jingyao immediately closed his eyes: “Had I known earlier, I wouldn’t have held on.”
Lin Hua was infuriated, glaring at him, but he fell asleep instantly… Seeing his emaciated face, her anger and grievances slowly dissipated, instead, she began to observe him carefully.
Just then, the door opened.
It wasn’t someone else, but rather Old Wang’s wife, King Jingyao’s mother.
The Old Lady paused upon seeing Lin Hua, truly not expecting that Lin Hua would still care enough to visit Jingyao… Being a woman, she clearly understood Jingyao’s past mistakes couldn’t be forgiven, and it was even less forgivable that he took the initiative to divorce, everyone has pride, especially Lin Hua, a stubborn person who hadn’t bowed her head to her in years, yet she’s now visiting Jingyao.
The Old Lady’s usually strict and shrewd eyes had a touch of gentleness, and she spoke softly, “Lin Hua, you’re here.”
She sighed again: “You’re still so soft-hearted, Jingyao is certain of it.”
Lin Hua stood up immediately to support the Old Lady: “Old Lady, you’re here.”
The two sat down together, and the Old Lady looked at her sideways, “Jingyao’s asleep, let’s have a chat.”
She added another sentence before Lin Hua could speak: “Since you’re here, Jingyao can finally sleep well for a while. He’s spent his whole life on work, yet in the end, someone still cares for him, he’s truly lucky.”
Lin Hua felt half heartbroken and half embarrassed, not knowing what to say for a long time. Truly, the older ginger is spicier, and the Old Lady hit the nail on the head, knowing from Lin Hua’s expression that she still cares about Jingyao, and she was reassured.
Indeed, Jingyao hasn’t lived up to expectations, his wife loves him, and he has a cute child, yet he managed to turn things so bad, unlike his usual self.
With no one else around, the Old Lady gently stroked Lin Hua’s hand, speaking softly: “I know you’ve been wronged, Jingyao is too impulsive, lost his standards, not like his usual self.”
She sighed again: “Normally, with his domineering nature, he wouldn’t let you go, don’t you think?”
Lin Hua said nothing, but the Old Lady laughed: “You understand well too, he’s unwilling to let you go but afraid you’ll resent him, he just facilitated your decision… Whenever you decide to return, he’s waiting.”
Lin Hua was truly embarrassed, it took a while before she could speak: “Old Lady.”
The Old Lady held her hand, “Listen to me, child… I know you’ve been wronged, women are most vulnerable and angry when they expect the man to comfort them, but Jingyao is truly something, divorcing without a word and keeping Xiao Yue, he’s muddled in old age.”
The Old Lady criticized her son, leaving Lin Hua with nothing to say, and she simply smiled gently and said: “It’s all in the past, Old Lady, don’t worry… I’m doing well now.”
“Really? Have you truly let go?” The Old Lady’s sharp eyes were worldly-wise: “If you’d really let go, you wouldn’t have come to see Jingyao, would you?”
Lin Hua was greatly embarrassed.
The Old Lady but smiled without speaking further… She just asked Lin Hua some recent updates, learning she intends to hold a concert again, she surprisingly agreed: “That’s excellent, you’re young and talented, sacrificing yourself for Jingyao is truly a pity.”
Lin Hua was a bit surprised.
The Old Lady gave a small smile, “Strange? Though I’m Jingyao’s mother, I won’t be unreasonable. You’re talented and young, there’s really no need to be tied to an unhappy marriage, if unhappy, try to make yourself happy, life is lived for oneself, isn’t it?”
After saying this, the Old Lady patted Lin Hua’s hand: “Do what you want, mom supports you. As for Xiao Yue, don’t worry, Jingyao can’t take care, I’ll look after him for you, I may be old but this old bone can still last a few more years.”
Lin Hua was slightly moved, over the years it seemed she and the Old Lady had their differences regarding Xiao Yue’s education, but today the Old Lady didn’t mention it, acting as if it never happened, even treating her like a daughter… She knew she had stubbornness in matters with Jingyao, but the Old Lady didn’t blame her at all, instead standing by her side, so she didn’t correct the Old Lady’s title.
The Old Lady still calls herself her mom, even though she’s divorced from Jingyao.
The Old Lady sighed again: “I’ve told that muddle-headed one, if you two ever get divorced I’d treat you as my own daughter, that won’t change… Child, just focus on doing what you love. Jingyao… caught in circumstances beyond his control, your dad and I hope you can live freely.”
Hearing these words, Lin Hua felt extremely sad.
She felt that if this continued, she’d seem selfish, though she couldn’t pinpoint where she’d done wrong or erred, yet felt like she betrayed the Old Lady and King Jingyao, clearly he’s the one who made mistakes, clearly his anger caused her to crash the car and accidentally miscarry…
She glanced up, looking into the Old Lady’s eyes.
The Old Lady still bore wisdom on her face, observing Lin Hua’s expression she probably understood.
This child, still can’t let go of Jingyao, both still hold each other in their hearts but situations have arisen, and they can’t move past the surface… The Old Lady already had a plan, smiling: “I see you’re doing quite well recently, Jingyao’s been sick, spend more time with Xiao Yue… When Jingyao recovers, I’ll have him take Xiao Yue to listen to your concert, to properly make it up to you. When the time comes let him open his dog eyes and perk up his dog ears, and truly hear what music is, what art is!”
