"I shouldn’t have let you live, Meng Xiaoni. You’re proving just how wrong that decision was."

His eyes darkened. "Your biggest stupid decision was not leaving with Ni Mengxue. Looks like I need to take action against you."

A cold smile appeared on his lips. "Just wait and see how I’ll deal with you."

Mo Beichan had already figured out why Meng Xiaoni had become so reckless.

He was confident that his family was safe. That confidence was exactly what Mo Beichan intended to destroy.

’After tonight, I’ll deal with his family. Then he’ll understand the consequences of crossing me.’

Just as he finished thinking, one of his subordinates rushed into the room and immediately knelt.

"Sir, a problem has arisen."

Mo Beichan looked at him calmly. "Speak."

The subordinate was a tall man with a lean, muscular build and rugged features that gave him a strangely charming appearance.

His name was He Lin.

"A three-legged chameleon has been spotted. It has already destroyed a considerable amount of property in the villa area. We suspect it came from the nearby mountains. If we don’t deal with it in time, it could destroy the entire villa area."

He hesitated before adding, "It may even attack you."

Mo Beichan calmly looked at He Lin, his soft, low voice echoing through the dimly lit room.

"According to you, what could be the reason behind the sudden appearance of that mutated beast?"

He Lin fell silent for a moment before answering in a steady voice tinged with uncertainty.

"My lord, I believe someone is trying to use this opportunity to damage your reputation, especially in front of Miss Su."

He continued, "Because of your previous actions against Meng Xiaoni and his family, Miss Su was extremely furious. She even questioned whether you were still fit to remain among her top five husbands."

He Lin paused before adding, "I suspect one of her other husbands deliberately released the three-legged chameleon to create chaos. If the situation continues to worsen, Miss Su might eventually..."

He didn’t finish his sentence, but Mo Beichan understood what he meant.

He closed his eyes and considered the possibility. He Lin’s theory was reasonable to a certain extent.

The last time he had put Meng Xiaoni’s family in front of the base members, Su Yao had learned about it and blamed him for acting recklessly.

She had even warned him not to take another step against Meng Xiaoni.

As if that weren’t enough, she had gone a step further and stripped him of all his privileges.

Mo Beichan took a deep breath.

"The next time you spot that beast, pursue it immediately and kill it. Make sure the matter is resolved as quickly as possible."

He Lin lowered his head. "I understand, my lord."

Once He Lin left, Mo Beichan remained alone in the dimly lit living room, silently contemplating everything that had happened.

................................

That night, Meng Xiaoni quietly slipped out of his villa with five shadowy figures following behind him.

They moved cautiously, constantly observing their surroundings.

Even at night, the streets of Burning Star Base remained lively.

Some people were preparing to leave the base to hunt zombies, while others were casually strolling through the night markets.

Bright streetlights illuminated the main roads, and the occasional sounds of vendors calling out their prices filled the air.

With so many people around, slipping away unnoticed was difficult.

However, Meng Xiaoni had lived in Burning Star Base for several months. During that time, he had discovered several hidden routes that allowed him to avoid the crowded streets and most of the patrol teams.

Tonight, he intended to make use of that knowledge.

He led the five figures through a narrow, poorly lit passage between two rows of buildings.

Their dark clothing blended into the shadows, making it difficult for anyone to identify them.

A constant chorus of insect sounds came from a small speaker tied around Meng Xiaoni’s waist.

The artificial chirping and buzzing were loud enough to mask their footsteps.

Anyone hearing those unpleasant sounds from a distance would likely assume the passage was infested with insects and avoid approaching it.

The assassin secretly following Meng Xiaoni couldn’t help feeling impressed.

’He even thought of using insect sounds to conceal their movements.’

It was an unusual method, but surprisingly effective.

However, they had only covered half the distance when Meng Xiaoni suddenly slowed down.

A sharp pain spread through his stomach. He tried to continue walking, but the discomfort quickly worsened.

His legs weakened, and he was forced to crouch down. The five figures immediately surrounded him.

Meng Xiaoni seemed to say something to them, but before he could finish, his body went limp.

The figures hurriedly caught him before he could hit the ground.

The assassin watched from a distance as one of them lifted Meng Xiaoni into his arms. Even though the way of lifting was strange, he couldn’t understand what was wrong with it.

Because of the darkness and their concealed faces, he couldn’t identify any of them.

However, one thing was certain. Meng Xiaoni had lost consciousness.

The assassin immediately sent a signal to Mo Beichan.

..................................................

After receiving the message, Mo Beichan made his way toward the eastern patrol team’s designated meeting area.

He arrived with He Lin and waited calmly.

While they waited, He Lin continued reporting the information he had gathered.

"My lord, several of Miss Su Yao’s husbands have been playing dirty behind your back."

"They have been deliberately trying to reduce your earnings and influence. Some have even persuaded Miss Su to redirect funds from your personal funds to support their own activities."

Mo Beichan stared straight ahead without saying anything. However, the pressure surrounding him grew noticeably heavier.

Sensing his displeasure, He Lin lowered his gaze.

Nevertheless, he continued his report.

He knew that Mo Beichan wasn’t the kind of person who punished his subordinates simply for telling him unpleasant truths.

Although Mo Beichan was judgmental and ruthless, he valued capable people.

As long as someone proved useful, he was willing to tolerate their honesty.

He Lin had already earned that privilege. Therefore, he saw no reason to sugarcoat his words.
