Cannon Fodder In Apocalypse: I Rule With Sanctuary Evolution System
Chapter 185: Mission: Harvest Vegetables
The newly constructed brick-paved roads were already taking shape.
Several smaller markets and shops were also being built along the streets.
However, after examining the construction progress, Ni Mengxue began reconsidering her original plans.
Initially, she had ordered these buildings to be constructed manually because she wanted to save the points required to purchase system-generated structures.
But her financial situation had changed considerably.
With the vegetable shop and other businesses operating successfully, Fair Shallow Land was now generating at least a hundred thousand system points every day.
More importantly, those system points could be converted into merit points.
This meant she could use her earnings to construct buildings directly through the system.
’If that’s the case, there’s no need to spend so much time building everything manually.’
System-generated buildings were constructed much faster and often came with additional features.
She could now afford to prioritise them.
Among the facilities she wanted to establish were a school, a clinic, and several entertainment buildings.
However, the school was her current priority.
She had already begun planning its curriculum.
Apart from ordinary subjects, she intended to introduce specialised courses for superhumans.
These courses would be based on the handwritten notes she had accumulated regarding the awakening, stabilisation, and development of supernatural abilities.
’If I can teach people how to control their powers properly, Fair Shallow Land will become much stronger.’
While considering the curriculum, another idea occurred to her. The Stabilisation Potion.
This potion could help newly awakened superhumans stabilise their abilities and improve the quality of their initial awakening.
Ni Mengxue had been thinking about establishing a laboratory dedicated to researching and producing it.
Once the laboratory became operational, she could begin supplying stabilisation potions to other bases.
After all, the zombie apocalypse wasn’t a disaster that Fair Shallow Land could overcome entirely on its own.
Even if her base became powerful, she would still need to maintain relationships with neighbouring settlements.
Some could become trading partners. Others might become allies.
Sharing valuable information about the Stabilisation Potion without demanding payment would already be a considerable gesture of goodwill.
Of course, that didn’t mean she intended to tolerate hostility.
’If those bases appreciate my goodwill, we can cooperate.’
Her expression became cold.
’But if they dare attack Fair Shallow Land, I won’t hesitate to retaliate.’
After making her decision, Ni Mengxue opened the mission management interface.
She quickly issued several new missions.
Soon, notifications appeared on the employment panels.
[New Base Mission Available!
Mission: Recruit new residents from neighbouring bases.
Objective: Introduce Fair Shallow Land to potential residents and encourage qualified survivors to relocate.
Additional Mission: Spread information about the Stabilisation Potion.]
The sudden appearance of these missions immediately attracted attention.
Residents gathered in small groups, discussing the new opportunities.
However, most of them were particularly interested in the Stabilisation Potion.
"Stabilisation Potion? What kind of potion is that?"
"Does it have something to do with superpowers?"
Curious residents began examining the mission descriptions.
When they discovered that the potion could help newly awakened superhumans stabilise and potentially strengthen their abilities, the crowd became excited.
Someone couldn’t help sighing. "If only this potion had existed when I awakened my ability!"
Another resident nodded. "Exactly! Maybe my superpower would have turned out much stronger."
A third person joined the conversation.
"Forget about newly awakened superhumans. What I really want is a potion that can enhance abilities we’ve already awakened."
His eyes brightened. "If something like that existed, I’d buy it even if it cost thirty million points!"
Someone beside him laughed. "Thirty million? I’d pay three hundred million!"
Another person immediately declared, "I’d even pay thirty billion points if it could significantly strengthen my ability!"
The surrounding residents began laughing and arguing about how much they would be willing to spend.
Meanwhile, Ni Mengxue happened to overhear their conversation.
’An Enhancement Potion?’
Her eyes flickered. ’That’s right. Such potions do exist.’
Unlike Stabilisation Potions, Enhancement Potions were considerably more difficult to manufacture.
However, they weren’t impossible to recreate.
Ni Mengxue already possessed some knowledge of their production methods.
The real difficulty was finding someone capable of conducting the necessary research.
She also needed to become familiar with the medicinal herbs available in this world.
’If I can find a talented researcher and guide them properly, perhaps we can recreate the Enhancement Potion.’
The idea was extremely tempting.
If Fair Shallow Land could successfully manufacture both Stabilisation Potions and Enhancement Potions, its influence among the surrounding bases would increase tremendously.
Just as Ni Mengxue was considering the possibilities, a mechanical notification suddenly sounded inside her mind.
[Ding! A Mission has been Detected!]
A blue holographic screen appeared before her.
[Mission: Harvest 5000 pounds of vegetables.
Reward: Unknown.
Punishment: None.]
Ni Mengxue blinked. "Five thousand pounds?"
The harvesting requirement wasn’t particularly difficult considering her newly upgraded farmland.
However, the reward caught her attention. ’Unknown?’
She tapped the reward section, but nothing happened.
The interface remained unchanged. Ni Mengxue sighed helplessly.
"System, how unreliable can you be? At least tell me what the reward is!"
The system responded in its usual mechanical voice.
[Host, please do not worry. The reward will be a pleasant surprise for Fair Shallow Land.]
Ni Mengxue stared at the notification. "That’s all you’re going to tell me?"
The system didn’t elaborate.
Ni Mengxue shook her head. ’Forget it.’
Since there was no punishment for failure, she had nothing to lose by completing the mission.
Besides, she had already planned to harvest large quantities of vegetables.
However, there was another matter she wanted to investigate.
The heatwave had become increasingly severe.
Even during the daytime, the temperature was high enough to make outdoor activities uncomfortable.
Under ordinary circumstances, such intense heat would make it extremely difficult for vegetable seeds to germinate.
Ni Mengxue was worried that the crops growing in the real-world farmland might be affected.
Unlike the agricultural land in space, the outdoor fields didn’t have a greenhouse protecting them from the weather.
She decided to inspect the vegetable patches personally.
However, when she arrived, she was stunned.
Despite the scorching temperature, tender green shoots were emerging from the soil.
