Chapter 138: So... Will He Say Something Dog-Like?
Chapter 138: Chapter 138: So... Will He Say Something Dog-Like?
"Team Blue’s sniper, Jay Monroe scores one point, bringing his total to 41."
"Team Blue’s attacker, Hart scores one point, total now 5."
"Team Blue’s attacker, Boland scores one point, total 8."
"Team Blue’s sniper, Jay Monroe scores one point, now at 42."
Renee Morgan broke out of danger, while Desmond Ulrich got his head blown off right then.
Of the five who covered her for the retreat and breakout, two got headshotted halfway up the hill, and the remaining three—including Desmond Ulrich—were all eliminated too.
Renee Morgan hurried away right behind Jay Monroe, looking back just in time to meet Desmond Ulrich’s steaming, headshot face.
Desmond Ulrich pressed his comms headset, knowing the feed was dead, and mouthed a sentence at her: "Renee Morgan, don’t feel guilty. You have to get the team prize—that’s my payment."
Renee Morgan: "..." If she doesn’t win, does that mean she’s in massive debt now?
...
The border defense battle saw Team Blue win gloriously, although they lost quite a few members too. Among them, the Group 5 assault team led by Renee Morgan saw everyone except Renee herself wiped out.
No one in the livestream chat expected Renee Morgan to make it out of such a hopeless scene unscathed.
Not only that, she even took out Louis’s points.
This... Before the haters even jumped in, people already suspected the script was rigged.
So, the bullet curtain instantly switched gears.
[Damn, given all that, Morgan can still escape? Gotta thank Group 5, especially Isaac Bell and Captain Ulrich. Without them, Morgan would’ve been in real trouble.]
[Yeah, everyone just wants to win and split that team prize, so they made the "abandon the car to keep the king" move—sacrificing themselves to save Morgan. Without them, she’d definitely be out.]
[Goes to show, a team victory relies on everyone. They’re one step from winning, but still gotta respect their spirit of sacrifice.]
[Just found out today—Morgan’s not just OP, she’s totally the team favorite.]
[Sigh, if there IS a script, guess which one Morgan’s playing? Team favorite? Everyone’s darling? Or is she the squad’s precious little princess?]
[Maybe it’s all of those? OP and script-favored, she’s just infuriating LOL.]
Haters: [...]
The fans had already taken over, what were the haters even supposed to say?
"Walk the hater’s road so the haters have no road to walk"—Morgan’s fans, living it up right now.
Morgan’s successful escape really did take a team effort.
When it came down to choices, basically all resources tipped her way.
Whether she’s the team’s sweetheart, everyone’s darling, or the base’s precious daughter, at the end of the day, it’s because she’s got actual skills.
If she didn’t, maybe one or two dudes would simp for her looks, but it would NEVER be a bunch of Group 5 guys—Isaac Bell and Desmond Ulrich included—who’d throw themselves into the mess mid-hill and cover her retreat without a second thought.
That’s team spirit, and the will to win.
Whether it’s the ultra-pragmatic Desmond Ulrich, Isaac Bell who genuinely admires Morgan, or the rest of Group 5, they all totally acknowledge Morgan’s strength. As long as she gets out, their odds as a team go way up.
On the international web, there’s none of this drama.
Desmond Ulrich, Isaac Bell, and the rest of Group 5 sacrificed themselves to let Morgan escape.
Honestly, with the situation the way it was, even if they didn’t cover her, they’d be eliminated anyway.
But doing this gave their loss real meaning.
An absolutely smart play.
You’d have to be brain-dead NOT to do it.
Guess that makes the haters on the domestic forum the brain-dead ones, since they refuse to accept that Morgan is both talented and important to the team.
But Group 5 isn’t full of idiots; everyone worked their asses off just to get to this stage and try for the prize. You’ve gotta be clear-headed at all times.
As night fell, the team lead and Dane headed one way; Renee Morgan and Jay Monroe took another route back to the mud house for regrouping. With so many people, the whole place was packed inside and out.
Finally, the team lead sent some off to set up camp at a nearby abandoned factory for the night.
A noisy crowd left together, like some massive class dinner back in school.
The mud house calmed down—with just Jay Monroe, Renee Morgan, Dane, the team lead, and four Group 2 members who always stuck to Dane left inside.
They found a seat on the hay floor and started discussing their next move.
Conditions in the base’s competition zone weren’t exactly dire, but having to survive on dry compressed biscuits with no hot showers or comfy beds—everyone just wanted the match to end ASAP.
After the border defense battle, the competition hit its final stretch. The team lead figured they should go all-in and launch a direct assault on Team Red Tower.
Nobody spoke up right away at his suggestion.
Jay Monroe and Dane were off in their own heads; the four from Bama’s squad played their usual role as background characters.
As for Renee Morgan, she’d gotten up early, trekked too much mountain, baked in the sun all day. All she wanted was to sleep, but with everyone around her grinding so hard, she couldn’t be the only one slacking. She just propped her head up, visibly tired.
The team lead glanced around and landed on Renee Morgan first for her input.
He’d already noticed by now—Jay Monroe and Dane both have proper boss auras; power aside, you just didn’t want to test their tempers.
Bama and Hart’s crew were entirely in Dane’s camp.
Seeing the lead looking at her with no choice, Renee Morgan helplessly glanced at Jay Monroe and Dane. "What do you two think?"
Jay Monroe openly glanced at Dane, signaling him to answer first.
Dane pretended to consider, then looked at Renee Morgan. "Tired?"
The sudden concern was weirdly out of place. Morgan instinctively knew this wasn’t the time to show weakness—but dammit, her mouth betrayed her with a yawn.
Renee Morgan: "..."
She immediately wished she could crawl into a hole and disappear, but refusing would just look weak, so she admitted, "Got up early today, yeah... kinda tired..."
Dane gave her a polite smile.
Renee Morgan: "..." This guy’s got dog energy just like Jay Monroe.
"So...," Dane’s dark, deep eyes locked onto Morgan for several seconds on purpose.
In the stream chat, all the girls started shooting off pink, sparkly comments, delighted, fully expecting Dane to suggest they rest for tonight and talk tomorrow... all for Morgan’s sake.
Fast-handed viewers fired off a salvo of bullet comments:
[Don’t blink, everyone—Morgan’s stepping into her "everybody’s darling" arc! All the S-tier guys are head over heels, and every principle can be tossed out for her...]
[Ah, Morgan’s life is way too good.]
[Why can’t I get her kind of luck?]
[If Dane looked at me like that for even a few seconds, I’d pull an all-nighter without hesitation.]
[So jealous... they’re so compatible... say yes, say yes, get together, get together.]
"So..."
