Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Chasing Wife at the Crematorium

"I propose we don’t rest tonight and move to the next step of the plan." Dane’s words were crisp, lips curling into a smirk—then he wiped the smile, looking dead serious at Renee Morgan: "To minimize casualties, both you and Jay Monroe need to go out on this mission."

The pink bubbles in the livestream stopped popping, then burst and vanished one by one. The girls clenched their fists, devastated.

[Sleepy? So, I propose we don’t rest tonight, move to the next step... Is this the ultimate team-favorite heroine plot? It’s clearly a female celebrity thrust into an elite sausage-fest room.]

[Is the big boss always playing the wife-loving card? Maybe it’s just some tragic pursuit arc.]

[Tragic pursuit? Go watch fewer brainless rom-coms and more real life. The bosses are all busy; petty romance barely registers for them.]

[Hard to say. These bosses had their younger days. Dane and Jay Monroe are still fresh, very much at the age for reckless romance.]

[Do they look like people who need love? Funny/funny]

[Uwu, is there really no one in this world willing to fulfill the dreams of us ordinary girls?]

Everyone: [...] Is it really okay to roast yourselves like this?

Renee Morgan had a bad feeling as soon as she saw Dane’s expression—right on cue...

Her face stayed numb, lips pressed tight in frustration, but she spoke calmly: "I’m fine with it. Go ahead, let’s hear your plan."

Dane didn’t beat around the bush. He glanced at the team leader and the rest: "We move tonight, but we’re not attacking Team Red Tower."

The team leader’s expression shifted. He looked at Dane, who was all swagger and confidence, clasped his hands and raised his gaze, ready for a lecture.

Jay Monroe barely reacted, as if he’d anticipated Dane’s plan all along.

Renee Morgan was unfazed too. Dane looked like pure muscle, but he wasn’t exactly dumb.

The team leader wanted to storm Team Red Tower now just because Team Blue had won the border battle—their confidence was sky-high.

Renee Morgan and crew had plenty of combat experience, and they knew this win wasn’t easy, luck played a big part—and a big chunk of that was because Hugh was left back in Team Red Tower.

If today Team Red had reinforced the territory border, and Hugh was leading, the whole situation would flip.

They might’ve scraped a win, or suffered a disaster—either way, not the outcome they got.

Luck isn’t something you can depend on every round.

Dane saw Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan weren’t surprised, then glanced at the team leader and four from Squad 2—all with an eager-to-learn vibe. A person’s worth is equal, intelligence definitely isn’t.

The team leader and Bama weren’t bottom-tier, but they’d never hit the highest level.

What a shame.

Bama rubbed his head, Boland nudged Vance, Hart looked blank. Why does Dane’s gaze feel kind of... pitiful?

"Team Red’s commander is aggressive, but at least he cares deeply about the tower’s safety. You can tell because he left Hugh at the tower today." Dane straightened his back, going into lecture mode.

Hugh...

The team leader remembered—the guy who almost led a sea raid right through Team Blue’s checkpoint, landing as Team Red’s sniper.

Clearly, Dane’s team regarded this Team Red sniper highly.

"Given how much Team Red’s commander values the tower, he’ll anticipate our next move—he’ll expect us to attack their tower..." Dane’s gaze landed on the team leader who’d suggested that assault earlier.

Even the slowest among them could hear Dane’s implication.

His idea would be something Team Red already expects. That makes the plan dangerous.

Sure enough, Dane continued analyzing Team Red’s likely move: "The commander will recall the border-guard squad, plus the survivors escaping from the border today. Their headcount will easily top a hundred."

Way over a hundred.

Team Blue took losses, even with Renee Morgan’s elite squad, they’d barely make seventy. Plus, Team Red’s defending, Team Blue’s attacking—it’s going to be tough.

The team leader felt his hot-blooded mood turn cold, like a bucket of ice water dumped over him—made him shiver.

He looked at Jay Monroe and Renee Morgan. Both were calm and didn’t even glance at him. He secretly relaxed, wiped cold sweat, and forced composure: "So, what do you have in mind for tonight’s action?"

Dane acted oblivious to all his sweating and kept his tone: "With our current strength, we can’t go head-to-head. If we do, the small edge we’ve gained will vanish."

He admitted Team Blue had a bit of an edge. Only a bit. That’s it.

The team leader rushed to nod, agreeing and humbly seeking advice: "So, what should we do now?"

Renee Morgan glanced at the suddenly humble team leader, then at the calm, collected Dane. She sighed—Dane and Jay Monroe had talked her into Freyos. Judging by their manner, both were running their own mini outfits. No wonder their pitch was so slick, otherwise they wouldn’t get far.

Dane grabbed a stick and drew three small circles in the dirt, stopping at the last and tapping—showing tonight’s goal.

"Team Red’s got over a hundred left. Besides the tower and border survivors, there’s the checkpoint squad. Tonight, our target is their checkpoint team."

The team leader recalled Dane’s earlier statement—Team Red’s commander would recall the checkpoint squad.

Dane meant to ambush them on the way back to the tower?

Team Red Tower.

Louis led the main force to reinforce the territory border, leaving only about forty or fifty in Team Red Tower. Everyone knew how crucial the border battle was; they all gathered in the hall, waiting for news.

When they heard Renee Morgan’s gunfire erupt at the border, a bad feeling crept in.

Sure enough, less than half an hour later, the news broke: Louis had been taken out with a headshot by Renee Morgan.

The hall’s vibe twisted into an eerie silence.

They glanced at the commander, then at Hugh, who reclined in his chair, eyes closed, aura still cold enough to freeze the room.

Nobody dared make a sound. The suffocating feeling spread through the whole meeting hall.

When the word came the main Team Red reinforcements had been surrounded by Team Blue from behind, everyone bolted upright. Chaos broke out—no one had expected things to go this south.

Hugh kept lounging, silent, radiating frosty menace for all to feel.

The Team Red commander stayed mute as well—it wasn’t hard to see his tired mind already regretted everything.
