Chapter 155: Lord Above
Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Lord Above
Dane clenched his molars, making a grinding sound, the muscles in his neck twitching—he was clearly dissatisfied with the team leader’s comment, but he was trying hard to rein in his temper.
If it weren’t for the competition, and one of his own people talked to him like that, he’d definitely spit and say, "We have only this many people, so what, we can’t take down Team Red Tower?"
Renee Morgan was more his style.
Confident, cocky, fearless.
Dane glanced sideways at her, "Renee, you speak."
Renee: "..."
Suddenly called out, Renee had to rack her brains quickly, then calmly began, "Today, Hugh took the initiative to attack. Who do you think came up with that idea?"
Dane and Jay Monroe stared at her, eyes deep, not in a hurry to answer.
Bama and his group were utterly confused—why was Renee suddenly asking this?
The team leader answered thoughtfully, "Either it was Hugh, or the Team Red commander."
"That’s right." Renee nodded in agreement, but continued, "Personally, I think it was the Team Red commander."
"Why?" The team leader was surprised she was so certain.
Renee: "Do you all remember the frontier battle? Back then, Dane guessed Hugh definitely wasn’t coming."
"If Hugh had been in charge, or could convince the Team Red commander, he would’ve been there. Only one possibility: Team Red commander forced him to stay at the tower."
This shows that the Team Red commander’s personality is different from ours in Team Blue.
Our Team Blue commander is cautious, but not bossy; Team Red commander is aggressive, forceful, dictatorial.
The others listened to her detailed analysis, all nodding, waiting for her next points.
"This time, Hugh led a team to attack our camp. If it wasn’t the Team Red commander’s plan, Hugh would never have done it," said Renee.
"So what?" Jay Monroe sneered at her, like he was looking at some shady woman.
"..."
"Ahem, at that critical moment, instead of having Hugh lead the team on the mountain road to reinforce the Customs squad and ensure their safety, the Team Red commander chose to launch a surprise attack on our camp. Shows he’s getting impatient." Renee continued.
"So?" Jay Monroe’s gaze stayed icy, spitting out the word.
Renee scanned the others, then said, "We can request reinforcements. Ask the commander to assign us more people, split into two teams, approach from land and sea. Team Red has land and sea routes too—maybe no garrison, but surely some scouts. Once our movement reaches the Team Red commander, he definitely won’t sit still."
"If they can’t sit still, so what? Team Red only has so few people left; can they even spare anyone to fight the reinforcements?" Jay Monroe frowned, questioning.
"If it were our Team Blue commander, he definitely wouldn’t act like this, but if it’s Team Red commander, that’s a different story." Renee knew how radicals thought; they’re desperate for results and capable of anything.
Plus, Team Blue’s reinforcements would pose a real threat to Team Red Tower’s safety—they won’t just sit and wait for doom.
"What if they just hole up and refuse to budge?" Bama couldn’t help chiming in.
Renee said calmly, "Then it doesn’t really hurt us. Two more teams attacking Team Red Tower increases our odds anyway."
The team leader nodded, but didn’t voice support for her plan.
He looked at the usually easygoing Jay Monroe, who today acted like he’d swallowed a bomb, glaring at Renee; and at Dane, who wore a ’don’t mess with me’ look. Carefully, he asked, "Monroe, Dane, do you two think this plan works? If not, we can think up another way..."
He assumed both were against Renee.
His voice barely finished, when Dane’s dark, unblinking gaze met his, "What, you got a better idea?"
Team leader: "..."
He cricked his neck, stiffly looking at Jay Monroe.
Jay Monroe stretched his neck, veins bulging, leaning in coldly, "So, you have a superior plan?"
Team leader: "..."
The Team Blue commander listened to the plan, voiced approval too, but since Team Blue Tower needed people and patrols on both land and sea routes couldn’t be withdrawn, they’d have to pull two teams over as best as they could.
The exact numbers depended on how many could be spared.
Dane and his gang naturally had no objections.
After ending comms, Renee stretched lazily, stood and saw everyone staring at her. Her clear, bright eyes decisively turned to the team leader, "Team leader, can I rest tonight?"
The team leader, like the team parent, affirmed, "Sure, sure, tonight we’ll rotate shifts; you’re a girl, sleep’s important, go get some rest."
Renee let out a long exhale, not bothering to look at Dane and Jay Monroe, those two mutts.
"Wait..." Jay Monroe called out to her.
Renee looked at the team leader, her gaze almost asking, ’May I go now?’
The team leader wanted to nod, but glancing back saw Bama and his crew standing, smiling at him.
That look wasn’t mafia-level, but definitely a friendly warning.
The team leader closed his eyes, pretended not to see, turning toward the door and muttering to himself, "Gotta patrol till morning, better check if all the shifts are set, anyone feeling off, need to swap shifts..."
Renee: "..."
Back in her seat, Renee rubbed her aching head and said to the others, "You all go out first, I need to clear something up with him."
Dane didn’t budge.
Bama’s gang didn’t budge.
Renee waited a long moment for any movement, then looked their way, only to see Bama’s group staring at her with an expression so disappointed, almost heartbroken.
Renee: "..."
Are these guys all nuts? Whole crew gone crazy?
At least Dane’s expression stayed normal, though his gaze at her was hard to decipher.
Renee couldn’t help recalling when she got out of the car, Bama’s gang whispering something to Dane. Dane looked up at her then, with just that same expression.
"Morgan..." Jay Monroe, sitting across from her, raised a prosecutorial vibe, "Today you have to clear things up in front of everyone and apologize to me."
Renee sighed, "Just say what you mean."
Jay Monroe clutched his chest in mock grief, reluctant, "You call me some cartoon puppy psycho, fine, but then you say you’ll introduce me to rich women, what the hell is that? It’s an insult."
Dane’s look at Renee got complicated, as if silently saying, ’Didn’t expect you were that kind of person.’
Bama’s gang all shot her looks of condemnation.
Introducing to Monroe but forgetting them? Unforgivable.
Renee really wanted to whip out her military knife, stab herself in the chest to prove innocence—my god, so wronged.
