Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Reinforcement Squad

"Uh... uh, Jay, listen to me. It’s true that cartoon puppy-boy style has been trendy in Z Country these past few years," Renee Morgan hurriedly explained.

Bama watched the drama with glee, arms crossed, and said sarcastically, "What puppy-boy style? I hear it, too—you’re insinuating our Monroe’s gone dog-crazy, huh? If you want to diss him, just do it, why add the ’milk’ part, like you’re giving him some nickname just for the sugar mamas."

Boland nodded furiously, "Exactly, exactly! Puppy-boy going crazy doesn’t have any punch, would a sugar mama really even like that? Why not rename it to wolfdog-crazy—now that would be badass!"

Renee Morgan: "...How do you even know about wolfdog style?"

Puppy-boys are more obedient, while little wolfdogs are fierce—these are indeed the two main types big sisters like.

"No, no, it’s not about going crazy or not! I’m talking about the style—the ’feng’ as in style, not madness. Also, it’s not for setting him up with a sugar mama, it’s for recommending him to agencies that focus on this kind of persona," Renee Morgan finished in one breath, never knowing talking could be this exhausting.

Finally, the misunderstanding was cleared up, and she apologized to Jay. The matter was resolved.

Before breaking up the meeting, Jay Monroe smirked: "Morgan, let’s help each other out from now on, that’s how it ought to be. If I ever can’t make it, I’ll just come running to you."

"..."

Renee Morgan replied halfheartedly with a nod.

Dane had always known Monroe was shameless, but he didn’t think he could be audacious to this degree.

After realizing Monroe and Hugh were cousins, Dane had mapped out the Royal Family network Hugh belonged to. The people who attended official Royal business—and appeared in public—they were just mascots; those holding real power and wealth stayed hidden.

Monroe was obviously the latter.

Being Hugh’s cousin, never making a public appearance, and so close to that side of the family—there was only that surname left, the one holding most of the country’s wealth.

That kind of background, and he’s tricking a girl like this?

Doesn’t he ever feel guilty?

After slipping away, Renee Morgan found a big bundle of dry grass outside, went back to the second floor of the warehouse, spread it out, dug out some ointment from her belt, and carefully rubbed it on all her exposed skin before lying down to sleep.

By the time Monroe and Dane came up, Renee Morgan was already curled up fast asleep in the corner.

Monroe couldn’t be bothered to find grass and just scavenged some from Renee’s pile, laid it out across from her, and settled in for a nap.

Bama and the others went to get grass; Dane stood on the balcony, looking out into the distance, lost in thought.

Bama and his crew returned carrying bundles after more than ten minutes, asking Dane where to spread it.

Dane scanned the area, his gaze passing over Renee Morgan curled in the corner, landing on Monroe lying opposite her.

Monroe was clearly trying to get closer to Renee—anyone not blind could see it.

Others just assumed the two were partners, so Monroe would be closer to Renee.

But Dane knew—with Monroe’s status in Freyos—for him to lower himself like this, it had to be for some benefit, nothing else.

"Over there," Dane pointed at the vacant spot next to Monroe, face calm as ever.

Bama and crew didn’t think much, went up and spread the grass, making sure the biggest spot was saved for him—right next to Monroe.

Monroe still wasn’t asleep, scavenged two more handfuls of grass from them to pad out the scatter gaps. Seeing Dane lie down, he raised his brow: "Why’re we all bunched up together?"

Dane put a hand on his forehead and stayed silent.

Bama piped up: "Back at the mud hut, we all crashed together—gotta have company, right?"

Dane smacked his palm on Bama’s head—a loud slap. He hadn’t said a word, but Bama got the message, instantly covered his mouth, lowered his voice, and whispered to Boland. Then Dane kicked him, and he finally shut up.

Monroe looked away. Dane knew exactly what he was thinking, and Monroe knew Dane’s thoughts just as well.

Sigh, Morgan really is a hot commodity, huh.

Renee Morgan’s biological clock had always been precise—early to bed, early to rise.

Upon waking, everyone else was still asleep. She found a stream nearby to wash up.

On the way back, she filled up everyone’s canteens and brought them back.

Monroe and Dane woke almost at the same time, took the canteens from her, went outside to wash up, and when they came back, saw Renee Morgan doing morning exercises.

Unlike last time when she worked the staff, now she wasn’t using any weapons—she was practicing Tai Chi.

Monroe had seen this set before—back at the base forest, with sleet coming down, she’d performed the same routine.

He’d even secretly mocked her more than once back then.

Seeing her do Tai Chi again, his mindset had shifted.

After finishing her routine, Renee Morgan rested a while, then took out some compressed biscuits and started munching.

The team leader came in to inform them of the exact number of the reinforcement team—they were setting off this morning.

The reinforcement squad would need time to cross from their territory to Team Red territory, should all arrive within a day, and it’d be their job to receive them.

Monroe and Renee were Team Blue’s two top snipers—they needed to split up, cover both land and sea routes.

Given Renee’s experience ambushing on mountain roads, she was assigned to meet the reinforcement team coming from the sea checkpoint.

Monroe would take his crew to meet the squad coming by land.

Bama’s four-member group went with Monroe; Dane teamed up with Renee, picking a few more people from the group.

The leader stayed back with the main squad, closely watching Team Red Tower’s movements.

The reinforcements set off early; the sea route would be faster, but still wouldn’t arrive until noon, so they didn’t need to set out early themselves.

After the meeting, everyone gathered to chat, speculating how Team Red would react once they knew reinforcements were coming.

Initial guess: Team Red’s commander would send out troops.

But—Hugh...

Dane turned his head to Monroe: "What do you think Hugh will do?"

Monroe was clearly caught off guard, hadn’t expected Dane to suddenly ask, frowned and pondered a bit before answering: "Hugh’s style—he’ll definitely lead his men out."

He wants the win so badly, and only by heading out can he rack up headshots and points.

Besides, the situation isn’t looking great for him; he should be even more anxious than Team Red’s actual leader.

Dane pretty much guessed what Hugh had said to Monroe last time; otherwise Monroe wouldn’t be this certain, with such a confident tone.

Dane asked again, "So, if he brings people out to intercept our reinforcements, which route do you think he’ll take?"

With reinforcements arriving by both land and sea, and Team Red low on numbers, they could only attack one route.

This question...

Monroe didn’t even bother thinking much, his gaze dropped toward Renee Morgan.

Hugh wants to get the highest championship score. Based on the current rankings, surpassing Renee Morgan is already damn near impossible.

Unless... Renee Morgan gets eliminated right away, locking her score at 117. If only Hugh stays in the game, overtaking her points would just be a matter of time.
