Chapter 766 - 117: Blue Blood

  • Next Chapter

A man of about thirty stepped out of the Airship. He wore sunglasses, his face was chiseled and angular, and he had a tall, slender build. He was dressed in an exquisite black formal suit, and on his wrist was a silver, vintage-style mechanical watch.

Once outside, he removed his sunglasses, revealing deep-set blue eyes and high cheekbones.

He wore his dark brown hair short and neat, and his entire aura was reserved and profound, making others feel the need to be cautious in his presence.

Below the Airship, and waiting in the distance, were numerous Fighters from the Lynx Federation. Upon seeing this man, they all involuntarily showed looks of adoration and excitement.

As the man walked down the connecting ramp, the personnel in charge of his reception stepped forward and said respectfully, yet politely, "Mr. Wilhelm, welcome."

Wilhelm responded with great poise.

His voice was a slightly low baritone, full of emotion and charisma, clearly belonging to someone who had received a fine education.

If it weren’t pointed out, it would be hard for anyone to imagine that this man with such an aristocratic air was the Third Limit Fighter, Talasa Wilhelm, who was powerful enough to be ranked among the world’s top thirty.

He hailed from the royal nobility of the Old Dynasty on the Western Continent. Although the Old Dynasty had been overthrown and most of the nobility had fled into the Merging Land, he had not left, choosing instead to take up residence in the Lynx Federation.

Here, he remained very popular among the upper class, and he was also the orthodox successor of the Fanhe Sect, one of the original schools of fighting on the Western Continent.

Wilhelm’s gaze swept toward the gathering area for the Federation personnel. "Gentlemen, have our partners from the Federation already departed?"

The head of reception said, "Yes, they departed two days ago. That includes Mr. Heros."

Wilhelm raised an eyebrow and said with a straight face, "I hope I won’t have to clean up a mess. No one likes an unplanned addition to their workload."

The people accompanying him couldn’t help but chuckle, and a few of the more thoughtless security soldiers even laughed out loud.

However, they only laughed briefly and said nothing more on the matter. The Federation’s delegation not only had a group of powerful Fighters, but also Yusios Heros, who was likewise ranked in the world’s top thirty. Moreover, the man was said to be extremely petty and to hold grudges.

So, there were some things Wilhelm could say that they couldn’t comment on.

Of course, this was also because they were in a camp primarily built by the Federation, with Domain surveillance watching them at all times. Once they were inside their own barracks, however, none of that mattered.

At this, the head of reception gave a slight bow and made an inviting gesture filled with formal etiquette.

"Mr. Wilhelm, we have prepared your accommodations in advance. Please, come with us."

Wilhelm nodded and followed him toward the camp.

Meanwhile, in the distant Federation delegation’s camp, the Federation’s security chief, Renou, and his subordinates were watching their every move and listening in on all their conversations.

Suddenly, they saw Wilhelm turn his head mid-stride and glance in their direction.

As his face appeared on the Domain screen, every person felt as if he were looking directly at them, and their hearts involuntarily skipped a beat.

In that instant, everyone there felt an impulse to flee from his gaze, and it took a great deal of effort to hold still.

’Blue blood...’

Renou stared as Wilhelm, surrounded by security personnel, walked toward the Lynx Federation’s residential area.

As the group entered their section of the camp, the interference creatures there activated, and the Domain screen quickly became a blur.

Even so, the oppressive feeling Wilhelm’s arrival had brought lingered. After a moment, someone spoke up defiantly, "It’s only because Mr. Heros isn’t here. If he were..."

Chief Renou waved his hand dismissively, putting on a relaxed expression. "Ah, Mr. Heros is hard at work and shouldn’t be disturbed. As for our blue-blooded gentleman, he was born noble. I hope he takes plenty of souvenir photos during his little tour of the Merging Land. It’s just a shame our work seems to have had an oversight; we didn’t have time to level a polo field for him."

Everyone present laughed, and the gloomy atmosphere from before immediately dissipated.

Chief Renou turned around, his back to the Domain screen, and instructed everyone, "I need you to monitor his every move, including every word he says outside."

"Yes, sir!"

By now, Wilhelm had reached the comfortable and spacious room the camp had provided for him. He poured himself a fragrant hot drink and carried the porcelain saucer to the window.

Seeing a bulldozer shoveling away piles of insect carcasses on the ground, the handler following behind him said, "It rained a few times yesterday and brought these things. If we don’t deal with them promptly, they’ll contaminate our camp."

Wilhelm said, "The Merging Land is full of surprises. Although the sky here is as gloomy as the sky over New Rhine, the biosphere is vastly different. It can’t help but make me think of the people of this land. I hear they’re very tenacious, as tough and numerous as weeds."

The handler smiled. "To deal with weeds, you just have to dig up the roots. Then they won’t grow back next year."

Wilhelm gave a slight hum and took a sip of his hot drink. "But we still need them for now, don’t we?"

"Yes," the handler agreed. "Because of the threat from those things on the other side, their existence is still meaningful for the time being."

Wilhelm looked toward the dense forest in the distance. "I don’t seem to have heard which powerful Fighter the Dashun Government has dispatched for this operation."

"Dashun’s Fighters aren’t keen on international rankings, perhaps on their government’s orders. Their true strength is very opaque. For many of their Fighters, you can only get an accurate assessment by facing them directly.

"Take Xu Chan, whom we encountered this time. His rank was originally between one hundred and two hundred, but the Federation has now raised his ranking by fifty places."

Wilhelm said, "For a moment, I’m not sure if I should envy Mr. Heros. An opponent like that is a rare find. For any Fighter who wishes to improve, that is perhaps the greatest reward."

The handler reassured him, "Dashun is so large. I’m sure there will be an opponent who meets your expectations, sir."

"I hope so."

Meanwhile, Yang Yuncheng had led Chen Chuan to the base of a slope, bringing them within four kilometers of the camp.

He looked out and said, "Manager Chen, this is as far as we can go. We can’t get any closer. The last time I was here, I was discovered for no apparent reason. I don’t know what method they used.

"Luckily, I left in time, and I’m familiar with the terrain, so I was able to withdraw. If I had been any later, I might have been stuck here for good."

Chen Chuan looked around. "It was probably Domain surveillance."

Yang Yuncheng said with some surprise, "Domain surveillance with a four-kilometer range?" He glanced outward. "Can portable Domain Creatures do that?"

He sighed with emotion. "It seems technology has advanced a great deal. The portable Domain Creatures I saw back in my day could only cover a range of about one kilometer."

From his current vantage point, Chen Chuan took another look out. The view from high above hadn’t been clear, but now he could see that the path to the camp was protected not only by firing points but also by a network of crisscrossing trenches and staggered metal barricades.

These were meant to prevent Fighters from using their speed to break through. While they couldn’t guarantee a complete stop, even a delay of a few seconds would be enough for the people inside to react.

But these weren’t a major problem for him. What he needed to ensure was how to kill every powerful Fighter inside. Ideally, he would figure out the exact location of each one.

Although he could try to find his opponents through spiritual clashes, the camp was large, and many people would certainly be carrying protective items. This would prevent him from getting enough feedback, so finding every target accurately would definitely take more effort.

He thought for a moment, then used his Spiritual Consciousness to communicate with Hong Fu.

’Hong Fu, if I have you take a look at the Fighters in the camp, will it consume your energy?’

Hong Fu replied within his Spiritual Consciousness, ’Just observing the life-force intensity of targets costs me very little energy.’

Chen Chuan said, ’Good. Then help me take a look.’

Hong Fu acknowledged the command. The red scarf wrapped around Chen Chuan fluttered slightly. Then, his Realm Token, which in theory should have been unable to receive any information, suddenly showed activity. Information and content immediately appeared on it.

This included some of the camp’s layout and status, but most importantly, the dense collection of human figures.

The Life Domain of every person worth noting in the camp appeared on the Realm Token. Unexpectedly, however, the Domain intensity of most of them wasn’t high. Only one or two were even worth a second glance.

Such enemies would be sufficient under normal circumstances, but they were clearly inadequate for a deep expedition into the Merging Land. This meant most of the camp’s main force must have already departed for the unknown regions.

But as more of the camp’s details were revealed, he made a new discovery. Deep within the camp, among the numerous readings, was a life form whose Domain glowed with an incredible incandescence, far more intense than any Third Limit Fighter he had ever seen.

After staring at it for a moment, he said to Yang Yuncheng, "Elder Yang, I still have some things to do here. You should head back first."

Yang Yuncheng asked, "Manager Chen, are you sure?"

Chen Chuan said, "I’m sure."

Yang Yuncheng guessed that Chen Chuan was shouldering some essential mission. He had been a member of a Pioneer Team and was still a soldier at heart. He knew that a mission assigned from above had to be completed by any means necessary. So, he said with great solemnity, "Alright, I’ll head back first. Manager Chen, be careful!"

Chen Chuan nodded.

Yang Yuncheng added, "Manager Chen, I’ll wait for you on the slope we came from earlier. Please, you must make it back before nightfall." After speaking, he gave Chen Chuan a salute and then quickly retreated the way they had come.

After Yang Yuncheng left, Chen Chuan’s deep, calm gaze settled on the area ahead. ’Before nightfall? I won’t need that long.’
