Chapter 767 - 118: Charge

  • Next Chapter

Chen Chuan hadn’t brought a packhorse this time, instead carrying the case directly on his back. He set it down, opened it on the spot, and changed into his Investigation Chief uniform.

He pulled on two layers of outer robes and a pair of protective gloves. After flexing his fingers, he glanced at the patterns drawn on them.

These were Esoteric Buddhism patterns he had drawn before his departure. However, they weren’t guaranteed to work against an opponent with immense Spiritual Power and protective gear, so he didn’t rely too heavily on them; it was simply a habitual backup measure.

Ultimately, a Fighter’s combat prowess was what truly mattered.

Once fully dressed, he put on his peaked cap. He thought for a moment, then took out a jade-like protective mask from the case and fastened it over his face. He then grabbed the unsheathed Snow Monarch Blade, gave his fluttering red scarf a light touch, and walked toward the camp.

He knew they had Domain monitoring, but Hong Fu’s assessment made it clear: as long as he concealed his own Domain, they wouldn’t detect him from a distance. However, the moment he left the dense woods, he would be in the sentries’ line of sight. A silent infiltration of the camp was therefore almost impossible.

In that case, he didn’t need to bother with stealth.

As he strode forward, he released the restraints on his Mutated Organization, letting it become fully active. A few steps later, his skin grew scorching hot, and wisps of white steam rose from his body. The next time his foot came down—BOOM!

The still-damp ground exploded into a deep crater, sending dirt and rubble flying. Trees on either side shook violently. Then, a figure wreathed in white mist shot toward the camp like a cannonball, trailing a massive sonic boom.

Yang Yuncheng had already retreated to the high slope he was on earlier. It was far enough to observe the camp but close enough to the dense forest for a quick escape. He was ready to react the instant something happened.

He had just steadied himself when he heard an explosive sound. It was a sound he was very familiar with—the boom a Fighter makes when breaking the sound barrier at extreme speeds.

He couldn’t help but look, and he saw a white streak slicing through the forest like a ship’s wake. It was as if the trees and ground were being split in two along a straight line. This white trail then shot toward the Federation camp with incredible speed.

’This is...’

Shock and disbelief were written all over his face. He had thought Chen Chuan was here to reconnoiter or meet with an inside contact. He never expected him to do something so insane.

This was a fully armed camp with strong defenses. A direct assault like this was completely beyond his imagination. Logic told him it was impossible, yet the sheer audacity of it sent a thrilling shiver through his entire body. He stared down, his eyes glued to the scene.

The personnel monitoring the Domain were the first to notice the massive disturbance, but it was moving too fast. Before they could identify it, the target had already reached the front of the camp. All they could do was send out a single warning cry.

The snipers in the outer sentry posts reacted even faster. The moment they sensed the anomaly, they immediately turned and aimed their Skadi long-range rifles in the direction of the sound.

However, the target’s speed far surpassed their estimations. As the dense woods were thrown aside and dust exploded outside the camp, they saw only a jet of white vapor that SWISHED into the perimeter.

BANG BANG BANG...

Gunshots rang out one after another, but they all hit empty air.

Chen Chuan stared straight ahead, his body leaning forward at a sharp angle to the ground. The Snow Monarch Blade was held behind him, his outer robe and red scarf pulled taut and straight.

At his speed, transverse trenches dozens of meters wide were trivial; a light tap of his toes sent him soaring over them. He only needed to slightly adjust his angle to avoid the longitudinal trenches ahead of time. Even camouflaged traps on the ground could not escape detection by Hong Fu’s display.

When he saw the barbed wire and overlapping metal barriers ahead, he just brought the Snow Monarch Blade forward in a light sweep, slicing the obstructions apart. He had already scouted the thicker obstacles before his charge and had no intention of crashing straight into them.

At this moment, machine guns from various gun emplacements opened up. These positions had their angles calculated long ago, creating a dense, interlocking field of fire that covered every inch of space.

Facing such a barrage, even with his speed, Chen Chuan couldn’t possibly dodge every bullet. But he didn’t need to. He lowered his head slightly, shielding it with his hand. When the bullets hit his body, his Horizontal Heart Strength Training reacted automatically. Combined with the two layers of outer robes, the bullets were all deflected away.

Besides the machine gunners, some of the riflemen were specially assigned Fighters. One of them didn’t even look at Chen Chuan’s figure or aim. He just closed his eyes, as if sensing something. After a moment, his eyes snapped open, and he violently pulled the trigger!

The shot perfectly predicted Chen Chuan’s position. However, just as the bullet was about to hit the side of his head, he reached out a hand and—PLAP!—snatched the armor-piercing round, capable of piercing steel plates, right out of the air. He casually tossed the bullet, deformed from the impact, to the ground. At the same time, a sharp light flared in his eyes, flashing for an instant.

The next moment, the rifleman’s eyes rolled back in his head, and he tumbled backward from his high perch.

It wasn’t just him. Wherever Chen Chuan passed, anyone within a five-to-six-hundred-meter radius who lacked protective gear and was below the Third Limit collapsed, losing consciousness instantly. Even Third Limit Fighters were hit with a wave of dizziness, forced to grab onto something nearby to keep from falling, unable to immediately regain their senses.

In that instant, a large portion of the nearby gunfire fell silent. Only a few scattered shots continued to ring out from a distance.

"Who is it?"

After the camp’s alarms and the roar of Chen Chuan’s charge rang out, Renou and the camp’s security staff were all alerted and trying to understand the situation.

A staff member in charge of Domain monitoring exclaimed, "Sir, that direction... he’s... he’s heading for Mr. Wilhelm!"

Renou and the others immediately focused their gazes on the Domain screen, only to gasp involuntarily.

They could tell from the Domain frequency that the intruder was a single person, but he was moving so fast that even the Domain monitoring couldn’t provide real-time feedback, resulting in a blurred image on the Domain light screen.

Renou didn’t linger to watch. He quickly ran out of the building. He saw the trajectory, like a horizontal gash cutting the camp open, heading straight for the Lynx Federation’s residential area. A series of booming explosions marked its path, so powerful they seemed to make his own head and chest vibrate. His vision filled with shattered, flying debris, some of which even drifted toward him.

He had no choice but to raise his voice and shout into the Realm Token, "Activate highest-priority Domain surveillance!" Then he added, "And wake up Taxes!"

In a building within the Lynx Federation section, Wilhelm was on a shaded second-floor terrace. He was sitting in a lounge chair, reading a report on the Merging Land. The moment the commotion started in the distance, he noticed it. He quickly took off his sunglasses, his eyes locked on the spot.

Then he saw the figure breaking the sound barrier, heading straight for him. He felt a powerful sense of threat he hadn’t experienced in a long time. In that instant, it felt as if every cell in his body had entered a state of extreme excitement.

He immediately stood up, reached over to a long case nearby, opened it, and took out a Western Continent-made long spear. He spun the four-meter-long weapon around easily with one hand.

At the same time, a faint, pale blue glow began to emanate from the blood vessels beneath his skin, quickly spreading over his entire body. A light, signifying an overflow of Spiritual Power, radiated from his blue eyes.

He gripped the long spear with both hands and slowly lowered its tip. His muscles began to swell. Beneath his seemingly lean frame was a physique as if cast from molten steel.

He began practicing his Breathing Technique at the age of five atop the snow-capped mountains of Piloais. At ten, he started his training by reciting the *Fanhe Book* upon the hundred-meter-tall sacred pillars of Gorivier. He broke through to the Third Limit on his seventeenth birthday. Since then, he had honed his Spear Skill day after day in the Ghostly Oak Garden of Mo’edi.

Every part of his Mutated Organization, every muscle fiber, had been forged through countless trials. His spirit had endured three great ordeals. He had polished himself into a near-perfect weapon.

He stood there, spear in hand, while all around him, the attendants and the building’s security staff collapsed to the floor one by one.

He stared at the approaching enemy with his blue eyes, and the world seemed to slow down. He saw the trajectory smash through the mass of air before it, shattering nearby obstacles and buildings. He saw the white vapor close in on him in the blink of an eye, accompanied by a deafening roar.

Amidst an unmissable flicker of leaping red light, the gleaming edge of a blade carved a perfect arc as it slashed down toward him.

Wilhelm jerked his spear up with both hands and thrust forward. As he moved, the air around him was shoved aside as if by an invisible wall, and an explosive crack of air erupted from the spear’s tip. The angle, speed, and power of the thrust were all near-perfect.

The next moment, the gleaming blade instantly collided with the spear. With a thunderous RUMBLE, the building he stood on abruptly collapsed and crumbled, and the head of the long spear also shattered in that same instant.
