"First of all, how did you know about the true nature of the ancient families bloodlines?" The old man asked instead of answering.
"I devoured enough of them for my ability to show me the truth." I replied without hesitation.
"Devoured?" Dakota asked, eyebrow raised.
"Huh? You guys didn’t tell them?"
"Tell us what?" Old Tian asked.
"It never came up so there was never a need to." Aunt V shrugged.
"A need to what? Raven, you stinky bitch! What are you holding out on me?"
"It’s nothing serious. Dante just has an ability that puts your fraudulent ancestor to shame."
""What??"" Both Tian and Dakota exclaimed.
"You have an ability similar to the great devourer?" The old dragon was in disbelief.
"Similar? Heh! Please, old man, don’t insult me. Mine is a million times more powerful than whatever that old vampire had." I scoffed.
"Valen. You knew about this?"
"If I didn’t know, who else would? The whole world suspects it, and it’s only because of the dean that the information has been suppressed to a minimum." The old man replied.
"And, they’re just silent like that? The Twilights haven’t made any moves? I refuse to believe those sneaky leeches are so obedient that they’d remain quiet." Dakota sneered.
"The dean’s words seems to have placated them for now, as for how long that will last, it’s anybody’s guess."
The two, Dakota and old Tian, turned to me once more,
"You just keep pulling out one ridiculous thing after the other huh?" Tian.
"To think you’d have an ability similar.. no. Wait, more powerful than my ancestor... I knew we were made for each other.. hehehe.." aunt k smiled, a wide toothy expression showing off her fangs.
"Back to the main issue, what do you mean, you devoured enough for your ability to show you the truth?"
"This will be easier if I just showed you.." saying so, I willed up the latest update I’d received from when I devoured that caris fellow.

"That.. is not how my ancestor’s ability worked." Dakota uttered solemnly.
"Hmm? How did it work then?"
"The ability made it capable to steal one ability from a devoured foe and make it his. He was so dangerous because the more he killed, the more he accumulated abilities and talents, not... this. Receiving the entire bloodline and whatever else comes with it? That shouldn’t be possible."
"Like I said, mine is a million times more powerful."
"You don’t know what this means do you?" She asked.
"Hmm?"
"The world only suspects that you have an ability similar to the great devourer, and despite that being a very terrifying thing, they probably still see you as young and inexperienced, someone they can take their time to understand and take care of."
"But should they ever realize just what ridiculous things you can do with this...." Her silence said more than she could ever had.
I kept silent as I looked at her, then, I smiled.
"Heh! Unfortunately for them... they’re already too late.."
With everything I had right now, I didn’t believe there was anything on this planet that could take my life.
"Don’t get cocky Dante.. there’re still things out there that you yourself don’t yet understand." The old man suddenly interjected himself into the conversation.
"Like the true nature behind these ancient families?" I asked.
"Tell me Dante, how much of the history of this world do you believe is accurate? How much of the reason for the demon’s invasions do you believe is true? Why are there so many different races nonnative to terra on this planet?"
The rapid fire questions made me go silent..
"Terra... she isn’t what she seems..."
"Haven’t you ever wondered why it’s so easy to comprehend something as unfathomable as laws? The very things that govern the workings of reality? I mean surely, it shouldn’t be something so easily grasped just because you have a high grade bloodline that grants you closer affinities right?"
I fell into thought.
He was right.
Laws were not things that should’ve been so easy to grasp.
Heck, sensing them should’ve been a difficult thing on its own, yet here, if you had the bloodline and comprehension, you had a high chance at comprehending one.
"Why?"
"It’s because terra is special."
"Nobody knows why, but for some reason, it is infinitely more easy for laws to be comprehended here than anywhere else."
"And once someone discovered that secret... everything changed."
My gaze sharpened as I heard those words.
"You mean?"
"Let me tell you a story."
"Long ago, since time long forgotten. This world was discovered by a passing wanderer. It is said that as he flew by the planet’s orbit, he sensed something different, leading him to stop and investigate.
Yet as he dove deeper and crossed the planet’s atmosphere, he felt it immediately.
Like chains being wound tightly around him, all his abilities, from talents, to skills, to laws, were instantly suppressed, the sudden loss of his abilities almost leading him to plummet to his death."
"Terra..."
"Yes.. terra. She forcefully suppressed the man’s powers and made it so that no amount of power he released would ever be a danger to the planet’s integrity."
His words made my eyes brighten..
"So that’s why..." no wonder.

I looked at my stats.
No wonder all these had felt like useless numbers.
I was being suppressed all this while by the planet itself, but,
"How?"

"The man that fell, after figuring out what was happening, was suddenly embarrassed and livid, yet in his rage something happened...
..... something magical." The old man paused, closing his eyes.
"What happened old man, stop acting cool and get on with it."
His brow twitched at my words as he reopened his eyes, leveling a dead stare at me, I shrugged, urging him on.
"Haaa... the man suddenly felt a pull from the planet. A certain resonance, and it was coming from the laws he had comprehended."
"Curious, he decided to lean into that feeling, only to discover that the laws he’d been stagnant in, laws that had been progressing at a snail’s pace, had suddenly sped up by at least 3 times, he became elated at the discovery."
"He spent close to a century on the planet, slowly interacting with the natives whilst also deepening his laws, it wasn’t until he reached a barrier in comprehension that he decided to leave."
"The man had already realized what such a world represented. And if news of it should spread, countless powers would descend upon it. His first instinct was simple. Destroy it before anyone else could claim it."
"But on further thought, he decided it would be better to claim it instead and place it under their banner. Of course he knew one single power hoarding such a treasure was impossible, so he left behind a marker and then departed."
"A marker?"
"Yes. A marker. One that the man used to track the planet after leaving, bringing with him those from the same force and their allies, as they went on to bring the entire world under their rule."
"They never ruled Terra with an iron fist.
They imposed few restrictions upon its inhabitants.
To them, Terra wasn’t a kingdom.
It was a cultivation ground.
Thus slowly, the man and those around him, interacted with a select group from the planet, copulating with the women and giving birth to children that had traces of the same bloodlines, albeit diluted, since that force was not ready to allow others inherit their true abilities, thus increasing their hold on the world , unfortunately or fortunately, depends on how you wish to see it, whichever child was lucky enough to be born with a bloodline higher than what was permitted, was taken away forcefully and integrated into the force that had birthed them.
That, Dante, is how the ancient families were born...."
