Chapter 477: Chapter 475:“You’ll get used to it.”

The roar of the crowd as we finally approached the finale was thunderous.

They had finally gotten over the spree of massacre we had gone on, as they now only cared about the final outcome of what was bound to be a clash of titans.

The best hundred of the geniuses that Canglan had to offer, going against one another in what was definitely supposed to be a tight and close battle for supremacy? It sounded like the perfect shot of dopamine everyone needed.

ZING!!!

A brilliant white light bathed the entire building as everything was cleared out.

The mini-arenas everyone had been using to test themselves, the pile of bodies behind Malachi and the others, the multiple human prints left on the walls of the coliseum, everything was mended back to its original state, as the moment the light died down, the gathered top hundred appeared on a new and pristine ground.

I couldn’t help but raise a brow at the curious use of runes these guys had implemented.

These must have been those famous formations you always read about within the novels, arrays being aligned together to get wondrous effects.

I wonder if their formation masters here were as good as Salazar; after all, a high-level planet like this one should definitely have some powerful formation masters.

"Maybe we can meet them and see if the freak could learn a thing or two."

"Just don’t go slapping their teeth out while you’re at it," Shaia said.

"I make no promises."

"Hehehe..."

....

"The leaderboard has been successfully updated, and these will be the positions you all will be going into this final phase with," the elder generously announced.

The entire arena turned their attention towards the new leaderboard and sure enough,

"I... I guess that can only be right."

"Ye... yeah... I wonder if it’ll change."

"Are you dumb? I don’t know what method they plan on employing, but do you believe that there’s anyone willing to challenge those devils?"

"Ye... yeah.. I guess we can only be excited about the other contenders fighting each other."

"Yeah."

The audience didn’t even seem courageous enough to have their conversations openly as they only whispered and muttered amongst themselves.

As for what got them all hesitant, well, that could only be the new leaderboard:

1- Long Chen.

2- Sulvan Entros.

3- Huang Xiaolong (Leo).

4- Duan Ling Tian (Paku).

5- Yang Kai (Malachi).

6- Chu Feng (Salazar).

....

....

Our names had gone from dead last to the very top of the list, and nobody seemed to have any issues with that.

This was probably the first time this world was breaking out of character.

Normally, there would be some disillusioned young master still shouting about the impossibility of our rankings.

How could commoners, people of no names, come out of nowhere and take the top spots in such an illustrious competition?

But looking at the faces of the other top hundred participants, all I saw was hesitation and fear.

None seemed even the least bit interested in maintaining eye contact for more than the instant I had locked eyes with them.

"Hmm... I guess not everything can be expected to be the same."

"I already told you, this is a real world, not some book you found yourself within. Some things might be similar, but ultimately, reality is still reality," Shaia reasoned once more.

"Hmm... I guess you’re right. Although, some things will never change, it seems."

"Haaa... I don’t even know why you keep playing. Just end this farce," Shaia sighed, tired, as the heated and venomous gaze of Lady Luo could be felt on my skin like the woman was right there beside me.

Even now. Even after everything that I’d just done, she seemed adamant about not letting our group go. She really wanted that divine-grade martial spirit, didn’t she?

"Heh! Shaia, my love. I already told you that I’m interested in that guy’s story now, didn’t I? Well, how am I going to follow his journey if I remove the one person meant to take him far enough to matter?" I replied to Shaia’s question as I turned, fully locking my attention on the veiled woman that had finally appeared in the skies beside the elder that had been taking charge of this entire situation, the black-haired Lin Tian floating beside her as they stood like a couple made in heaven.

Honestly, just looking at them and I could almost taste the cliché master-disciple nonsense that would go on between them, and these ladies wanted me to believe my deductions were false.

"Yeah, right."

....

"Young heroes of my high planar galaxies, I congratulate you all on coming this far, and formally welcome you into my Spirit Ascension Sect." The lovely voice of the woman carried a lilting tone that slowly ebbed away at the stress the candidates had been carrying all this while as she finally addressed us.

The gathered group of hundred stood straighter, none willing to appear weak before a grand elder of their future sect.

"I am proud to have talented and dedicated people like you join my sect. Be aware that your journey has only now truly begun, because the moment you set foot within the sect, you shall realize that there are mountains above mountains, and skies higher than the skies you have been seeing. Do not get carried away. Do not feel arrogant for your performance here today, for only when you have stood firmly within the sect can you truly claim to be one that is willing to challenge Heaven’s will and chase ascension!" I could feel her gaze pass through me and the boys as some parts of her speech were aimed directly towards us; as for what part that was, it was pretty obvious.

"Heh!"

Her speech might’ve been nothing but sophistry to my ears, but to the gathered candidates around, it was once again one that got their very blood boiling. The shift in the atmosphere, the determination in the air could be tasted as they all refused to back down before the gauntlet Luo Yao was dropping.

Their anticipation for the next round was sky-high as the lady finally got to the point.

"You have successfully claimed your ticket into the sect, but now, you must claim your place as one of the best entrants from this world."

OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!!!

There it is. The next round.

"The phase to determine the top ten and the top one of this test is simple. Each one of you has one chance at challenging anybody from the top hundred. If you win, you take their place. Everyone has only one chance at throwing out a challenge, so pick wisely. Once challenged, you must accept and defend your position. But if you feel like your position isn’t enough, like you are more, like you deserve more, then go and take it, for nothing in this world will ever be handed to you. Everything must be taken by your own hands."

The intent in the air was ignited as multiple people began throwing challenging glances at each other. Evidently, not everyone would be satisfied with the position they had received, as many believed themselves better than where they were.

"Alright. If you believe yourselves ready, then let the final phase of this test begin!"

RUMMMMMBLE!!!!

The place shook violently as a new stage was erected right at the center of the coliseum-like building, one meant to be used for the challenges ahead.

...

The place was silent for approximately two seconds before—

"Zhou Su Qing!" A young man appeared on the stage, aura valiant and confident.

He was the 75th ranked candidate, and his target, the 70th.

"Heh. Man Nou, you’re just a frog at the bottom of a well; allow me to broaden your horizons."

The challenged youth, Zhou Su Qing, sneered as he stepped onto the stage.

"You merely escaped by a hair’s breadth the last time. This time around, I shall take my rightful place."

"Humph!"

Done with their words, they swiftly began their fight.

And as expected,

"Rock quaking steps!"

"Bullriding fist!"

It was nothing but name-calling and flashy techniques.

Yes, the skills themselves were quite powerful; after all, whatever a law integration powerhouse used was bound to be strong, but—

"I’m bored..." It gets tiring pretty fast as Malachi yawned beside me.

The battle had already crossed the two-minute mark and there was yet to be a determined winner.

"When will this shit end?" The monkey seemed just about to pull his hair out in frustration, but someone had a better idea as—

ROOOOOARRRRRR!!!!!

Bang!! Bang!!

Following a terrifying roar, two resonant thuds signified the launching of the bodies of the two challengers currently duking it out as a new participant made his entry.

"MONKEY!!!!!!!!!!" Paku roared out in fury as the now 20-foot monster stared daggers at Malachi, his eyes gleaming with sadistic satisfaction.

"Come get your ass beat!!"

Malachi, no longer slouching, carefully picked up his staff as his body shone a brilliant golden light.

BOOOM!!!

The entire coliseum shook as a golden figure landed hard on the risen stage.

Malachi, now clad in his pristine golden armor, a crown around his head, radiated an aura of utter prestige and pride.

"You really couldn’t just lay low, could you? You just had to go seeking humiliation." The eyes of the monkey held nothing but disdain as he looked at Paku.

This was no longer Malachi Stoneborn. No. This was the Apostle of Pride.

But...

"Heh! You pompous motherfucker. I will enjoy poking those arrogant eyes out." Paku’s rage only climbed.

Pride versus Wrath.

One demanded subservience.

The other spat in the face of such an idea.

The excitement bleeding out of the two figures was enough to let anyone know that what was coming was bound to be catastrophic.

I had already appeared beside Terra, Nyssara, Elira, and Lucien the moment those two took center stage.

"Ladies, would you mind holding on a bit?" I smiled, wrapping them up in my aura as I watched the tension climb even further, the clashing ideologies of the two on stage.

"Huh? Dante? When did you—"

Nyssara never got the chance to finish her words as—

"MONKEY!!!!!!!!!"

Paku launched himself towards Malachi following a devastating roar.

The monkey’s response being his ever-faithful staff, but this time, it was enlarged to impossible proportions.

"Hold tight..." I warned once more as the moment the two collided—

WEEEENG!!!!!

The world... DETONATED!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!!!

A horrifying shockwave blasted outwards from the point of collision as Canglan was once again erased in its entirety.

But the damage didn’t stop there.

Wave after wave, the aura of their first clash reduced everything around it to nothing but space dust.

Worlds, solar systems, everything was just gone.

And within that destruction:

"ROOOOOARRRR!!!"

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

Was two madmen having the time of their lives.

BOOOOOMMMMM!!!

They didn’t relent, uncaring for the destruction they wrought as they collided continuously.

"Shouldn’t you do something? They’re going to reduce everything to dust at this rate," Nyssara, now firmly secured, asked.

"Don’t worry... the two have been frustrated for some reason since we came here, so letting them get it out should be fine. I’ll just fix everything up when they’re done."

"But... but isn’t the reason for their frustration because you’ve been forcing them to play roles they clearly don’t want to?"

"My point exactly. So letting them beat themselves up for a few minutes should help them calm down a bit."

"You... how can you be so shameless?"

"You’ll get used to it."

BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!
