Chapter 491: Chapter 489:“Allow me...”

The mood within the hall finally settled as all the gathered candidates righted themselves.

Naturally, they had been taken off guard by the weight of the pressure, but a few minutes of adapting and they were back to their arrogant and steadfast postures.

The vessel, like the elder had said, was currently on its way towards the imperial capital of the world,

Ascension City.

Yes. The city was named after the sect, for even though they were the imperial family, the true powerhouse of the entire Martial Spirit World was still the Spirit Ascension Sect. That was where the concentrated power of the entire Lin family was; after all, it was the birth child of Lin Feng, their first Dao Emperor.

The sights within the world were just as magnificent as those from the outside.

There were no small number of amazing flying beasts to be seen.

Some were large enough to rival the size of the vessel itself, as I could even see what looked like a dragon in the distance.

Now, I knew it wasn’t a True or Divine Dragon because there were no such creatures within this realm, but it must have been a beast with traces of draconic blood within it.

In fact, according to Sana, the prime universe itself doesn’t have any True or Divine Beasts within it, as most of anything anyone ever addressed as such were just creatures with minuscule traces of the blood from those creatures.

As for where those creatures truly were,

"Phoenix-Dragoverse..." Yes. Once again, this location was popping up on my radar.

Everything connecting this cultivation world trip seems to always want to link back to that particular universe.

"I wonder what’s so special about it," I couldn’t help but think.

The Calderans wouldn’t waste their bloodlines suppressing and assimilating false beasts, so I was sure those bastards had some level of influence within that universe and any other with a concentration of unique creatures.

"Looks like taking down these guys might lead to a lot more fun than I had thought."

Now I was eager to go get this done and see where the crumbs lead me to.

...

...

The flight to the so-called Ascension City was taking longer than usual, as for some reason these bastards had decided not to use their warping mechanisms to just take us there.

I was sure they were just trying to show us how much different their world was compared to the others we’d been on.

"Heh! Joke’s on you. This and everything else is all mine."

What? You thought I was just going to wreck the Lin family and whoever it was from the Calderans pulling the strings behind the scenes and leave? Fat chance.

The entirety of the High Planar Galaxies was going to return to where they rightfully belong, and that was inside of me.

"Ready yourselves, we’re arriving!"

Finally, mercifully, the elder’s voice alerted everyone.

"Damn... that was the longest ride I’ve had in ages," Malachi grumbled.

"And here I thought these guys had finally given up their annoying ways," Paku said.

"Haa.. at least now we finally get to step down. I never thought I could develop flight sickness. But any more time spent here with these fools and I might just develop such a sickness."

"Haa..." I let out a long breath as my focus returned to the outside world, at the now-approaching silhouette of what I could only call a massive city.

The closer we got, the more the sheer scale of the city became apparent.

Ascension City.

It stretched across an enormous portion of the continent, a sprawling metropolis whose borders seemed to disappear into the horizon.

Towering structures rose from the land like mountains of their own, some reaching beyond the clouds while countless floating palaces and cultivation platforms hovered between them. Vast formations pulsed beneath the city, their light running through streets wide enough to accommodate entire fleets.

And at the very center stood the Imperial Castle.

I didn’t need the elder or anyone else to tell me what it was.

Just the sheer grandeur and scale of the building made it clear that it wasn’t going to be anything else than the dwelling place of this world’s ruling class.

It wasn’t merely a palace.

It was a colossal fortress of white-gold stone that rose above the entire city, its countless towers piercing the heavens as golden formations spiraled around its structure. Massive stairways and bridges extended outward from its base, connecting it to the surrounding districts like the roots of some ancient celestial tree.

Even from this distance, it commanded attention.

This was the heart of the Martial Spirit World.

And judging by the sheer scale of it...

They certainly weren’t trying to hide that fact.

"I.. I have to go." The stuttering voice of Lin Tian snapped me from my thoughts as I turned towards him.

I had honestly forgotten that the fellow was even here.

"Hmm?" A curious brow was all the reply I gave him, but he seemed to have understood as he clarified,

"My master is calling for me, so I must go."

"I see."

I turned back towards the outside, ignoring the young man completely.

"Uhh.. I’ll see you within the sect then?" he asked as he made his way out, but a careless wave was the only reply he was getting out of me.

If he wasn’t doing any awesome protagonist shit to entertain me, then we didn’t have anything to discuss.

The ship didn’t slow, nor did it give anyone time to appreciate the happenings within the city as it made a beeline straight for the castle ahead, and the closer we got, the easier it was to make out the figures standing at what would be the gates of the castle.

Yes, I could have used my senses to spare myself the trouble of discovering everything in real time like everyone else, but that would defeat the whole point of this excursion.

I wanted the whole cultivation world experience, and what better way to experience the cultivation world than to go through the same ’surprising’ reveals as everyone else?

...

Our flying vessel finally arrived above the sprawling landscape of the castle as the elder’s voice rang out once more,

"Take us down."

Nobody knew who he was speaking to, but we didn’t get much time to deliberate.

A brilliant flash of light engulfed us.

Then, just as suddenly, it was gone as our feet touched solid ground.

We had arrived.

I raised my head and,

"Heh! Now this is a welcome fit for me." The thought couldn’t help but pass through my head as I took in the entourage before us.

The place had become crowded instantly by the sheer number of candidates that had arrived.

After all, with the selection being one that had taken place through the entirety of the High Planar Galaxies, it was only natural that the numbers be absurd, yet the entourage welcoming us still managed to stand out.

Decked in luxurious golden armor, a fleet of not one person more than a hundred stood in a straight line, their figures ramrod straight, demeanors threatening.

Each and every one of them radiated the aura of someone at the Law Manifestation stage, with one radiating an aura even beyond that.

And at the head of this procession stood a man, head full of black wavy hair held in a long ponytail, a golden crown resting atop his head as his lips carried a welcoming yet regal smile.

His entire demeanor screamed ’I AM IMPORTANT! NOTICE ME!’ And notice him everyone did. In fact, they noticed him enough that they missed the bombshell of a woman standing right beside him.

"Really?" Sana.

"I need to appreciate art whenever I can, my dear."

"Humph!"

"Everyone!" The elder called out as multiple figures appeared right ahead of the gathered and confused participants.

There, now standing beside the emperor and his... wife? Were Lady Luo and her cohorts, all twelve grand elders standing side by side with the emperor himself as the elder from before gave out the instructions,

"Pay your respects to His Majesty, the Emperor, His Imperial Highness Lin Xuan!" The elder’s voice thundered through the place as everyone stood straighter, and then,

"WE GREET HIS MAJESTY, THE EMPEROR." They greeted with cupped fists and bowed heads.

Well, almost everyone, as like a sore thumb, eight figures stood out.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

The sound of weapons being drawn thundered through the expanse as a wrathful voice resounded through what might have been the entire city itself,

"IMPUDENCE!!!!" The elder’s aura exploded as he shot me and the others a glaring look.

"YOU DARE DISRESPECT HIS MAJESTY IN SUCH A MANNER?"

His presence became heavier and heavier as he seemed just about ready to attack, but first,

"GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON NOT TO EXTERMINATE YOUR AUDACIOUS SELVES THIS INSTANT." He had to posture like a true elder.

"Heh! Alright, looks like once again, it’s showtime."

"Ughh... someone... anybody, please stop him."

Ignoring Shaia’s complaint, my back stood straighter as I placed my hands behind my back, and then, I opened my mouth,

"Allow me...."
